The most powerful internal-combustion entry is the Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution, whose twin-turbocharged V8 is claimed to produce 2,031 hp.
That answer requires an important qualification: modern performance cars do not all make power in the same way. Electric cars use motors, batteries and control software; hybrids combine an internal-combustion engine with electric assistance; and combustion-only cars may quote different outputs depending on fuel. Accordingly, this is a ranking of each car’s maximum advertised vehicle powertrain output, not a dyno-tested ranking of crankshaft horsepower.

“Most powerful engine” is an imperfect phrase for a modern hypercar list. A 2,107-hp electric car does not have a 2,107-hp engine in the conventional internal-combustion sense. Its headline figure represents the combined output of electric motors, battery systems and power electronics.

To make the comparison useful, the ranking uses the highest advertised output for a road-going car or road-car program. Hybrid figures include both the combustion engine and electric motors. Combustion figures retain any fuel qualification. Where a manufacturer describes a number as a target or estimate, it is not presented as a fully confirmed production rating.
The list also excludes the 2,200-hp SSC Tuatara Aggressor because SSC identifies that version as not road legal. The road-legal Tuatara remains in the ranking at up to 1,750 hp on E85 or methanol.
Horsepower alone does not determine which car accelerates fastest or performs best on a circuit. Weight, traction, gearing, torque delivery, battery temperature, aerodynamics, tires and control software can matter just as much.
For readers who want a deeper technical explanation of boost, displacement, combustion and engine architecture, an internal-combustion engine design book is a more useful companion than a generic tuning-parts guide. Availability and pricing should be checked before publication.

1. Rimac Nevera R — 2,107 hp
Propulsion: electric
Output status: manufacturer-quoted powertrain rating
The Rimac Nevera R takes first place with a quoted 2,107 hp. It produces that figure through an electric drivetrain rather than a piston engine, with four electric motors supplied by a 108-kWh battery.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Rimac also claims a 0–300 km/h time of 7.89 seconds. That acceleration claim illustrates why peak output is only part of the story: the car’s ability to deploy power depends on all-wheel-drive motor control, tire grip, battery output and software as much as on the headline horsepower number.
The important wording is 2,107-hp electric powertrain, not “2,107-hp engine.” Electric motors can deliver torque with a very different response from a turbocharged combustion engine, and their output is managed across multiple motors and the battery’s operating limits.
2. Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution — 2,031 hp
Propulsion: internal combustion
Output status: Hennessey claim
The Venom F5 Evolution is the highest-output combustion-powered car in this group. Hennessey says its twin-turbocharged V8 produces 2,031 hp and describes it as the world’s most powerful internal-combustion road-car engine.
That claim should be attributed to Hennessey rather than presented as an independently verified industry record. The engine was developed with Ilmor Engineering and represents the classic extreme-combustion route to enormous output: a high-capacity V8, substantial turbocharger boost, specialized internal components and careful control of fuel, air and heat.
Unlike the electric entries above it, the Venom F5 Evolution’s figure comes from one combustion engine. It therefore provides the clearest apples-to-apples answer for readers specifically asking which car has the most powerful conventional engine in this researched set.

3. Lotus Evija — target 2,000 PS
Propulsion: electric
Output status: manufacturer target, not a fully confirmed production rating
Lotus quotes a 2,000 PS target for the Evija’s four-motor electric powertrain. That converts to approximately 1,973 hp, although the manufacturer’s PS figure is the more appropriate number to use when describing the car.
The Evija’s position needs careful wording. Lotus’s technical material identifies 2,000 PS as a target specification, so it should not be described as though an independently confirmed production car has definitively delivered that output. Its ranking reflects the advertised target, clearly labeled as such.
Lotus has stated that production is limited to a maximum of 130 cars. The four-motor layout allows torque and power to be managed at each wheel, giving the system a control advantage that a single-engine, rear-wheel-drive car cannot replicate in the same way.
4. Automobili Pininfarina Battista — 1,900 hp
Propulsion: electric
Output status: manufacturer-quoted powertrain rating
The Automobili Pininfarina Battista uses a 120-kWh battery and four electric motors, with one motor driving each wheel. Its advertised total is 1,900 hp.

Automobili Pininfarina describes the Battista as available to customers in a strictly limited production run. Its place above the hybrid and combustion cars below it shows how quickly multi-motor electric systems have moved the absolute-power ceiling for road-going performance cars.
5. Zenvo Aurora Tur — estimated 1,850 bhp
Propulsion: hybrid
Output status: estimated combined output
The Zenvo Aurora Tur combines a 1,250-bhp 6.6-liter quad-turbocharged V12 with up to 600 bhp of electric assistance. Zenvo gives the combined system an estimated 1,850 bhp.

Zenvo’s use of “estimated” also means the combined output should not be treated as a final independently validated production rating. The Aurora Tur is planned as a highly limited car, with production stated at 50 units.

This is the modern hybrid performance formula in extreme form: retain the sound, character and sustained high-speed potential of a large combustion engine, then add electric torque and power where response and traction are most valuable.
6. Bugatti Tourbillon — 1,800 hp combined
Propulsion: hybrid
Output status: manufacturer-quoted combined output
Recommended Free Tools
The Bugatti Tourbillon ranks sixth with 1,800 hp of combined hybrid-system output. Its naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V16 supplies 1,000 hp, while three electric motors add a further 800 hp.
The V16 is Cosworth-engineered and is quoted at 900 Nm at 9,000 rpm. That makes the Tourbillon particularly interesting from an engineering perspective: its combustion engine is already an extraordinary 1,000-hp unit, but the electric system raises the vehicle’s total output by another 800 hp.
It would therefore be misleading to call the Tourbillon’s V16 an 1,800-hp engine. The correct description is an 1,800-hp hybrid powertrain built around a 1,000-hp V16. The car demonstrates why hybrid rankings can otherwise obscure how much work is being done by the combustion engine and how much by the electric motors.
7. SSC Tuatara — up to 1,750 hp on E85
Propulsion: internal combustion
Output status: fuel-dependent manufacturer rating
SSC lists the road-legal Tuatara and Tuatara Striker at 1,750 hp when the 5.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 runs on E85 or methanol. On 91-octane fuel, the listed output falls to 1,350 hp.
The fuel condition is not a footnote; it is part of the specification. The accurate shorthand is “up to 1,750 hp on E85,” not simply “the Tuatara makes 1,750 hp.” High-ethanol or methanol fuel can support a more aggressive operating strategy, but the car’s output depends on using that specified fuel.
SSC also lists a non-road-legal Tuatara Aggressor at 2,200 hp. It is excluded from this ranking because the comparison is intended for road cars. Including it would put a track-focused or non-homologated vehicle alongside road-legal models and make the list less meaningful.
8. Koenigsegg Jesko — 1,600 hp on E85
Propulsion: internal combustion
Output status: fuel-dependent manufacturer rating
The Koenigsegg Jesko’s 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces 1,600 hp on E85 and 1,280 hp on gasoline. Its maximum advertised figure therefore belongs specifically to the E85 configuration.
Koenigsegg specifies a flat-plane crankshaft, an 8,500-rpm redline and up to 1,500 Nm of torque. Those details point to the compromises involved in extracting huge output from a relatively compact V8: high boost, high airflow, high rotational speed and a fuel strategy that can support the required cylinder pressures and temperatures.

The Jesko remains an internal-combustion car in the purest sense of this list—there is no electric motor contributing to the headline figure. But its 1,600-hp ranking is not a regular-gasoline result, so it should be compared with the SSC using the same fuel-condition caveat.
9. McLaren W1 — 1,275 PS
Propulsion: hybrid
Output status: combined system rating
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
McLaren quotes 1,275 PS for the W1’s MHP-8 V8 hybrid powertrain. That is approximately 1,258 bhp, depending on the conversion and unit convention used.
The W1 sends its combined output through the rear wheels. Its headline figure is therefore materially higher than the output of its combustion engine alone, because the electric system contributes additional power and immediate torque.
Using McLaren’s published PS figure avoids giving a false impression of precision created by converting between PS, hp and bhp. The key point is not the small unit difference; it is that the 1,275-PS number belongs to the complete hybrid system rather than solely to the V8.
10. Lucid Air Sapphire — 1,234 hp
Propulsion: electric
Output status: manufacturer-quoted powertrain rating
The Lucid Air Sapphire closes the ranking with 1,234 hp from three electric motors: two driving the rear axle and one driving the front axle.
It is the most practical-looking car in this group, and that is what makes it an important entry. The Air Sapphire is a four-door performance sedan rather than a two-seat, ultra-limited hypercar. Its presence shows that extreme power is no longer confined to exotic bodywork and tiny production runs.
As with the other electric cars, 1,234 hp describes the combined motor and battery powertrain. The figure does not tell the whole story of range, sustained performance or thermal management, all of which become increasingly important when a battery system is asked to deliver very high output repeatedly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the ranking reveals about performance-car engineering
Electric power now occupies the top of the absolute-output table
Three of the top four entries are electric, and the number-one car is the Rimac Nevera R. Electric motors can be packaged at individual wheels or axles, controlled independently and supplied with torque almost immediately. That makes it possible to achieve spectacular peak output without the displacement, crankshaft speed and exhaust-energy management required by a combustion engine.
That does not make electric powertrains automatically superior in every measure. Battery mass, cooling requirements, charge state and sustained-output limits remain important trade-offs. Peak horsepower is a snapshot, not a complete performance verdict.
The most powerful combustion cars need special conditions
The Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution is the highest-output internal-combustion entry at 2,031 hp, but the next combustion cars in the table illustrate how dependent extreme output can be on fuel. SSC’s 1,750-hp Tuatara number applies to E85 or methanol, while the Koenigsegg Jesko reaches 1,600 hp on E85 but 1,280 hp on gasoline.

Fuel chemistry affects knock resistance, charge cooling and how aggressively an engine can be calibrated. A fuel-specific figure should therefore be read as a real operating condition, not as a minor technical qualification.
Hybrid numbers are system numbers
The Zenvo Aurora Tur and Bugatti Tourbillon are not powered by engines that individually produce their combined headline figures. The Aurora Tur’s V12 is rated at 1,250 bhp, with electric assistance taking the estimated total to 1,850 bhp. The Tourbillon’s V16 produces 1,000 hp, with three motors adding 800 hp for 1,800 hp combined.
Recommended Free Tools
This distinction matters when comparing engine design. A hybrid can use electric motors to fill torque gaps, improve launch performance and add power without asking the combustion engine to do all the work. The total vehicle output is the relevant number for acceleration potential, but the engine-only figure is the relevant number for judging the combustion hardware.
Production status changes how confidently a number should be read
These are not ten mass-market cars available in ordinary dealer inventories. Most are limited-production hypercars or highly restricted road-car programs. The Lotus Evija’s 2,000-PS figure is explicitly a target, and Zenvo’s 1,850-bhp Aurora Tur figure is explicitly estimated. Those labels are part of the ranking, not editorial decoration.
A manufacturer specification can be useful and still require careful attribution. It is not the same as an independently repeated dyno test, and a planned production figure is not identical to a measured output from a delivered customer car.
Why horsepower does not settle the performance question
- Traction: More power is useful only if the tires and drivetrain can transmit it to the road.
- Weight: A heavy battery-electric car and a lightweight combustion hypercar can use their power very differently.
- Torque delivery: Electric motors can deliver strong torque immediately, while turbocharged engines may build power with engine speed and boost.
- Gearing: Transmission ratios and the number of gears determine how effectively the engine or motors stay in their useful operating range.
- Battery temperature and state of charge: An electric car’s maximum advertised output may depend on operating conditions and may not be sustained indefinitely.
- Aerodynamics: Downforce can improve cornering and traction but also increases drag; top speed requires a different compromise from a short acceleration run.
- Tires and software: Launch control, torque vectoring, stability systems and tire construction are central to how much of the rated power reaches the pavement.
For that reason, this list answers one specific question: which cars advertise the greatest maximum powertrain output? It does not rank acceleration, top speed, lap time, reliability, efficiency, comfort or engineering quality.

The bottom line on the 2025 power race
The 2025 power race is no longer a straightforward contest between engine displacement and turbocharger count. Electric hypercars lead the absolute-output ranking, while the most powerful combustion cars depend on sophisticated turbocharging, specialized fuels and highly developed engine hardware. Hybrids add another layer by combining a large engine with electric assistance and reporting the result as a system total.
The fairest way to read the list is to keep asking three questions: What type of propulsion is producing the number? Under what fuel or operating condition is it achieved? Is the figure a production rating, an estimate or a target? Once those qualifications are visible, the list becomes more informative than a simple collection of giant horsepower figures.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most powerful car in 2025?
Using maximum advertised vehicle powertrain output, the Rimac Nevera R ranks first at 2,107 hp. It is an electric car, so the figure represents its electric powertrain rather than a conventional internal-combustion engine.
What is the most powerful internal-combustion car engine on this list?
The Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution ranks first among the internal-combustion entries, with Hennessey claiming 2,031 hp from its twin-turbocharged V8. That figure is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified dyno result.
Is the SSC Tuatara’s 1,750-hp figure available on regular gasoline?
No. SSC lists up to 1,750 hp when the Tuatara’s V8 runs on E85 or methanol, and 1,350 hp on 91-octane fuel.
Why is the Bugatti Tourbillon listed at 1,800 hp if its V16 makes 1,000 hp?
The Tourbillon is a hybrid. Its 1,000-hp naturally aspirated V16 is supplemented by three electric motors producing a further 800 hp, giving the complete powertrain a quoted combined output of 1,800 hp.
Is the Lotus Evija’s 2,000-PS figure confirmed production output?
Lotus identifies 2,000 PS as a target specification. It should therefore be treated as an advertised target, not as a fully independently confirmed production rating.
The Bottom Line
Rimac’s Nevera R leads this ranking at 2,107 hp, but the most powerful conventional engine is Hennessey’s 2,031-hp twin-turbo V8. Electric, hybrid, fuel-dependent and target figures must be labeled separately; otherwise, a horsepower table can make unlike powertrains appear directly comparable when they are not.
