The Yamaha YZF-R9 is arguably the most consequential motorcycle of the 2025 model cycle, but it is not the only important new arrival. This year’s standout motorcycles include new supersport platforms from Yamaha, Ducati, and KTM; lighter adventure and touring machines; a more performance-focused Indian Scout; and a factory Harley-Davidson bagger shaped by racing.

This is an editorial selection, not an objective horsepower ranking. The motorcycles below were chosen because they introduced a meaningful new engine, chassis, electronics package, category direction, or unusually distinctive blend of performance and usability. “2025” refers to the model-year and launch cycle, so arrival dates, specifications, pricing, and availability can vary by market.

1. Yamaha YZF-R9: the middleweight supersport’s fresh start

The Yamaha YZF-R9 may be the most significant motorcycle on this list because it makes the middleweight supersport category feel relevant again. Rather than simply refreshing an existing 600 cc sportbike, Yamaha built a new-generation road-going supersport around its 890 cc CP3 three-cylinder engine.

The R9 combines the CP3’s strong midrange character with a fully faired sportbike layout, a lightweight aluminum Deltabox frame, and chassis and electronic technology aimed at both fast road riding and track use. Yamaha also highlights MotoGP-derived technology, Yamaha Ride Control, and lean-sensitive electronic rider aids.

#1 Best Overall
ILM Full Face Motorcycle Helmets for Adult Men and Women DOT Model ILM-313
  • 2 Visors Included: Clear + Smoked and 1 Neck Scarf for Winter Use
  • Streamlined Aerodynamic Design Reduces Wind Noise and Drag
  • Advanced and Lightweight Durable ABS Shell
  • Quick Release Clasp and Strap and Removable Inner Lining Pads
  • Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards

That combination gives the R9 a different mission from the traditional high-revving 600. The story is not a claimed lap-time advantage—there is no independent comparison here—but the prospect of stronger usable torque, modern electronics, aerodynamic bodywork, and a chassis designed around a current engine platform.

Why it is exciting: The R9 is a credible answer to the question of what a modern middleweight supersport should be after the traditional 600 cc class contracted. It is fast-looking and track-conscious, but its three-cylinder engine and road-oriented electronics suggest a broader usability brief than an all-out race replica.

Best fit: Riders who want the involvement and appearance of a supersport without limiting the conversation to peak-rpm performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Important caveat: Yamaha’s detailed factsheet and equipment availability can differ by region. Confirm the specification, pricing, and local availability with the relevant Yamaha market before treating the R9 as a purchase-ready option.

2. Ducati Panigale V2: a genuinely new smaller Panigale

The 2025 Ducati Panigale V2 is exciting precisely because it is not merely a less-powerful Panigale V4. Ducati developed an all-new 890 cc Ducati V2 engine with variable valve timing, then built a substantially revised motorcycle around it.

The new platform brings a redesigned chassis and a meaningful weight reduction compared with the outgoing twin-cylinder Panigale V2. Ducati also repositioned the motorcycle with lower launch pricing than the previous generation, making the new model notable both technically and commercially.

The standard Panigale V2 is configured as a two-seat motorcycle, which matters for riders who want a high-performance machine that remains usable beyond solo track sessions. Ducati also announced a V2 S version with higher-grade Öhlins suspension and a lithium-ion battery. Those upgrades may appeal to riders prioritizing suspension adjustability and lower mass, but they should not be confused with the equipment of every standard model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ducati announced that the Panigale V2 would reach U.S. dealers in late Q1 2025. Other markets may follow different schedules and may receive different standard equipment.

Why it is exciting: Ducati used its new V2 architecture to rethink the entire motorcycle rather than simply preserve the previous formula. The result is a lighter, more compact, road-usable twin-cylinder sportbike with a new chassis philosophy and updated electronics.

Best fit: Riders who want an exotic, fully faired Ducati with a twin-cylinder character and a more approachable road mission than a flagship superbike.

Important caveat: Manufacturer weight and equipment claims are not substitutes for independent testing. Actual ride feel, ergonomics, and handling should be judged only after market-specific specifications and real-world tests are available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Ducati Streetfighter V2: the Panigale’s open-air counterpart

The 2025 Ducati Streetfighter V2 uses the same new 890 cc Ducati V2 foundation as the Panigale V2, but its purpose is different. Ducati removed the full fairing, fitted a more upright naked-bike layout, and gave the motorcycle wide handlebars and a longer swingarm than the Panigale V2.

Ducati describes it as the lightest Streetfighter it has produced and lists a claimed weight of 386 pounds. It also receives fully adjustable suspension, preserving a serious performance hardware package even though the riding position and visual experience are more open.

The difference between the two Ducatis is therefore not just bodywork. The Panigale is the focused, aerodynamic supersport. The Streetfighter is intended to deliver much of the same new-engine excitement in a format that exposes the rider to the environment and emphasizes upright control. That may make it more inviting for fast road riding, but it does not automatically make the motorcycle easier or safer to ride; performance, weight transfer, and rider skill still matter.

Ducati’s road-oriented accessory direction is also significant. Depending on market and configuration, the Streetfighter V2 can be equipped with features such as cruise control, navigation, USB power, and tire-pressure monitoring. Ducati announced U.S. arrival for Q2 2025.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why it is exciting: It is one of the clearest examples of a manufacturer taking a serious new supersport platform and translating it into a more versatile naked motorcycle without abandoning high-performance chassis hardware.

Best fit: Riders who want Ducati’s new V2 engine and adjustable performance equipment but spend more time on public roads than on a fully faired race circuit.

Important caveat: Accessory availability and standard equipment vary by market. A Streetfighter equipped with touring and connectivity accessories should not be assumed to include them as standard everywhere.

4. KTM 990 RC R: a race-bike idea with road legality

The KTM 990 RC R is one of the most track-focused street motorcycles introduced during the 2025 cycle. It uses a 947 cc LC8c parallel-twin engine, with KTM quoting approximately 128 PS and 103 Nm of torque, and places that engine in a steel chassis with an aluminum subframe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The hardware list supports KTM’s aggressive intent: adjustable WP suspension, a 6D inertial measurement unit, cornering traction control, and multiple ride modes. The aerodynamic bodywork and adjustable ergonomics further reinforce the idea of a road-legal motorcycle designed with track riding in mind.

There is an important model-year distinction. KTM’s original material presented production as beginning in early 2025, which is why the RC R belongs in a discussion of the 2025 launch cycle. Later KTM production material identifies the production motorcycle as a 2026 model-year vehicle arriving after production in late 2025. It should not be silently described as a U.S. 2025 model.

Why it is exciting: KTM is returning to a serious road-legal RC sportbike concept after its modern performance identity had largely centered on smaller RC models and the track-only RC 8C. The RC R combines aggressive aerodynamics, adjustable rider-focused hardware, track electronics, and road legality in a particularly clear “race bike with plates” package.

Best fit: Experienced riders who want a track-oriented sportbike but still need a machine that can legally travel on the street.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Important caveat: KTM’s announcement timing and production model-year designation are different facts. Availability, emissions certification, final equipment, and delivery dates need to be confirmed in each country.

5. Ducati Multistrada V2: the new engine’s adventure-tourer expansion

Ducati’s new V2 engine is not limited to sportbikes. The new Multistrada V2 was announced for dealership arrival in January 2025 and applies the same next-generation twin-cylinder architecture to a lighter, more versatile touring platform.

Ducati presented the Multistrada V2 as the lightest motorcycle in its category. The significance is less about turning it into a hard-enduro motorcycle and more about reducing the mass riders manage while touring, commuting, carrying luggage, or maneuvering at low speed. The bike is primarily a road-focused adventure-tourer with broader capability, not a dedicated dirt machine.

In applicable markets, Ducati also offers a 35 kW version for A2-licensed riders. That option is subject to local licensing rules and availability, so it should not be assumed to exist in every country, particularly where A2 licensing is not part of the local system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why it is exciting: The Multistrada V2 shows Ducati expanding a new engine family across categories rather than treating it as a sportbike-only project. Reduced weight, electronically managed riding systems, and long-distance capability give the model a strong argument for riders who want adventure-bike practicality without moving to a large, heavy liter-plus motorcycle.

ILM Motorcycle Dual Visor Flip up Modular Full Face Helmet DOT with 6 Colors Model 902 (L, Matte Black)
  • High Resistance ABS Shell With Micrometrically Adjustable Strap
  • Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards
  • Helmet Liner / Cheek Pads are Lightweight, Soft and Easily Removable and Washable
  • Sleek and Lightweight Design Reduces Wind Noise
  • Modular Flip-Up Function Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fog and Wide View Clear Visor

Best fit: Road-focused touring riders who want a more manageable adventure-tourer for long trips, everyday use, and occasional rougher roads.

Important caveat: “Adventure” does not mean unrestricted off-road ability. Wheel, tire, suspension, protection, and luggage specifications should be checked before planning serious unpaved travel.

6. BMW R 1300 RT: the high-tech grand tourer

BMW introduced the fully redesigned R 1300 RT in April 2025. Its 1,300 cc boxer engine remains central to the motorcycle’s identity, but the new model adds a broader technology and chassis brief built around both luxury touring and more dynamic country-road performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Official BMW material highlights Evo Telelever front suspension, updated chassis technology, riding assistance, and a 10.25-inch display. Automated shifting is available as an option, adding another layer of technology for riders who want to reduce manual transmission workload on long journeys. That system, like the rider-assistance features, should not be assumed to be standard on every market specification.

The R 1300 RT earns a place here because excitement is not limited to acceleration or cornering aggression. A grand-tourer can be exciting when it improves the pace, comfort, control, information, and confidence of long-distance travel. BMW’s redesign aims to make the RT more dynamic without abandoning its core role as a high-mileage touring motorcycle.

Why it is exciting: It is the most technology-intensive touring choice in this group and a significant modernization of one of BMW’s core motorcycles.

Best fit: Riders who regularly cover serious distances and want high levels of wind protection, comfort, information, chassis sophistication, and optional assistance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Important caveat: BMW’s option structure is particularly important. Automated shifting, assistance systems, and other equipment may depend on the selected package and market configuration.

7. Aprilia Tuono 457: accessible performance without beginner-bike blandness

The Aprilia Tuono 457 is a compact naked bike, but “compact” does not mean disposable or toy-like. Aprilia opened pre-booking on February 28, 2025, positioning the Tuono 457 as a roadster derived from the RS 457 platform.

Its next-generation 457 cc parallel-twin engine is rated by Aprilia at 47.6 horsepower and 43.5 Nm of torque. Aprilia also says that 82% of peak torque is available at 3,000 rpm, a figure that points toward useful low- and midrange response rather than an engine that only comes alive near its rev limit.

The U.S. model page identifies full-LED lighting, upright ergonomics, a 5-inch color TFT display, and compact roadster styling. The platform is also A2-compatible in relevant markets, making it accessible under those licensing systems while still presenting itself as a serious performance motorcycle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why it is exciting: The Tuono 457 brings aggressive Aprilia design, modern instrumentation, usable torque, and a performance-oriented chassis direction to a displacement class where new riders increasingly encounter premium engineering.

Best fit: Newer riders seeking an approachable motorcycle with genuine style and substance, or experienced riders who appreciate a light, manageable naked bike for urban and back-road use.

Important caveat: The A2 designation applies to markets with that licensing category. Local power restrictions, equipment, pricing, and delivery schedules may differ.

8. Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX: the mature all-rounder

The 2025 Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX is less radical than the Yamaha R9 or KTM RC R, but that is exactly why it belongs in this selection. Kawasaki replaced the previous 1,043 cc platform with a larger-displacement sport-touring motorcycle aimed at riders who want speed, range, weather protection, and everyday usability in one package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Kawasaki’s official U.S. product listing includes the 2025 Ninja 1100SX ABS, while the company also offered an SE ABS version with upgraded equipment. The distinction matters: suspension, braking, luggage, and electronic features can differ between the standard and SE versions, so a buyer should verify the exact trim rather than generalize from the range-topping model.

The Ninja 1100SX represents a category that is easy to overlook while manufacturers emphasize adventure bikes and high-spec naked motorcycles. Its appeal is not a single headline feature. It is the completeness of a fast road motorcycle designed to work for commuting, weekend sport riding, and long-distance travel.

Why it is exciting: It preserves the sport-tourer formula at a time when many riders are being pushed toward adventure-bike alternatives. A practical motorcycle can still be exciting when it offers strong road performance without demanding a dedicated riding position or a long list of compromises.

Best fit: Riders who want one motorcycle for fast road trips, daily use, and spirited cornering, with more road focus than a typical adventure-tourer.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Important caveat: Compare standard and SE equipment line by line. Suspension, brakes, luggage, electronics, and included accessories should be treated as trim-specific rather than universal Ninja 1100SX features.

9. Indian 101 Scout: the performance Scout arrives

The 2025 Indian 101 Scout is the performance-oriented flagship of Indian’s redesigned Scout family. It takes the low-slung styling and approachable proportions associated with the Scout and adds a more assertive chassis and equipment direction.

Indian’s SpeedPlus engine materials identify the 1,250 cc engine as the most powerful Scout engine. That makes the 101 Scout more than a cosmetic trim or an accessory package: it is intended to be the performance expression of the redesigned Scout platform.

The appeal is partly cultural. While many motorcycles on this list pursue speed through fairings, electronics, or track-derived chassis design, the 101 Scout explores how far a modern American cruiser can move toward performance without abandoning its fundamental format. The result is a useful counterpoint to the European sportbikes and touring machines.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why it is exciting: It expands the definition of a performance motorcycle. The 101 Scout combines cruiser ergonomics and visual identity with a more powerful engine and a more serious performance brief.

Best fit: Riders who want American cruiser character but are unwilling to treat handling and engine response as secondary concerns.

Important caveat: Exact equipment, pricing, and availability should be confirmed on the current model-year page for the relevant market. The 101 Scout’s role as the performance Scout is clear, but trim details can vary.

10. Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST: a factory performance bagger

The 2025 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST is a limited-production performance bagger inspired by Harley-Davidson’s King of the Baggers racing program. It is not intended to be a value-oriented touring motorcycle; it is a premium halo machine that turns a large American tourer into a more aggressive performance statement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Harley-Davidson lists a Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output V-twin, manufacturer-claimed output of 127 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, forged-carbon-fiber bodywork, adjustable suspension, performance-oriented electronic aids, and a 12.3-inch Skyline OS display. The official U.S. page lists a starting MSRP of $44,999.

Best Value
ILM Motorcycle Dual Visor Flip up Modular Full Face Helmet DOT Model 902L

  • Helmet Liner / Cheek Pads are Lightweight, Soft and Easily Removable and Washable
  • Sleek and Lightweight Design Reduces Wind Noise
  • Modular Flip-Up Function Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fog and Wide View Clear Visor

The forged-carbon bodywork is especially notable because it connects the motorcycle’s dramatic appearance to a weight-reduction effort. Combined with adjustable suspension, substantial V-twin torque, electronic assistance, and race-influenced styling, the CVO Road Glide ST embodies the growing performance-bagger movement.

Why it is exciting: It takes a format traditionally associated with relaxed highway travel and gives it a factory-developed performance identity. The result is one of the most distinctive motorcycles of the year, even before considering the King of the Baggers connection.

Best fit: Experienced touring riders who want premium comfort and luggage capacity with a more performance-focused chassis and visual presence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Important caveat: The 127-horsepower and 145-pound-foot figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The $44,999 starting MSRP is specifically the U.S. figure cited here; prices and equipment differ elsewhere.

How to choose among these 2025 motorcycles

These motorcycles do not compete for one universal type of buyer. The better question is what kind of riding you actually plan to do.

  • For a modern middleweight supersport: Start with the Yamaha YZF-R9. It is the clearest attempt to update the traditional middleweight sportbike around a larger-torque three-cylinder engine.
  • For an exotic twin-cylinder sportbike: Compare the Ducati Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2. The Panigale prioritizes a fully faired supersport experience; the Streetfighter gives the same new V2 family a more upright, open-road identity.
  • For the most overt track focus: The KTM 990 RC R is the obvious conceptual choice, but its 2025 announcement and later MY2026 production designation must be kept separate.
  • For lighter adventure touring: Consider the Ducati Multistrada V2 if your riding is primarily road-based and you want touring capability without moving to a large, heavy adventure motorcycle.
  • For luxury long-distance travel: The BMW R 1300 RT is the high-tech grand-tourer, particularly for riders interested in advanced chassis technology, a large display, rider assistance, and optional automated shifting.
  • For accessible naked-bike performance: The Aprilia Tuono 457 offers manageable displacement, useful claimed torque delivery, upright ergonomics, and premium presentation.
  • For one-bike road versatility: The Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX is the mature sport-tourer choice. Its standard and SE trims need to be compared carefully.
  • For cruiser performance: The Indian 101 Scout is the performance-focused Scout, while the Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST pursues a much larger and more premium performance-bagger formula.

What the 2025 motorcycle class says about the market

The most interesting thing about the 2025 cycle is that it does not have a single dominant direction. Instead, manufacturers are experimenting across several categories at once.

Yamaha and Ducati are making accessible supersport performance relevant again, but they are doing so with different engine philosophies: Yamaha uses a three-cylinder CP3, while Ducati introduces a new 890 cc V-twin. KTM is pushing a particularly track-oriented road-legal RC concept. Ducati then applies its new twin-cylinder architecture to an adventure-tourer, showing that a modern engine platform can support very different motorcycle missions.

BMW is updating luxury touring with a new boxer-powered RT, advanced chassis technology, a large display, and optional automated shifting. Aprilia is strengthening the lightweight premium category with a Tuono that treats the 457 cc class as a serious entry point rather than a stripped-down economy segment. Kawasaki, meanwhile, demonstrates that the sport-tourer remains viable as a comprehensive road motorcycle.

Indian and Harley-Davidson show that performance innovation is not limited to European sportbikes. The 101 Scout makes the cruiser format more assertive, while the CVO Road Glide ST turns the performance-bagger concept into a high-priced factory halo model with direct racing inspiration.

Together, these launches suggest that “exciting” in 2025 can mean more than peak acceleration. It can mean a lighter chassis, stronger road usability, more sophisticated electronics, a new category direction, or a familiar motorcycle format reworked around a more ambitious performance brief.

Equipment note for any street-legal motorcycle

Regardless of which motorcycle makes your shortlist, protective equipment should be treated as part of the purchase rather than an afterthought. A properly fitted full-face motorcycle helmet is a sensible starting point for street riding, but fit, certification for your jurisdiction, replacement guidance, and actual riding conditions matter more than choosing by brand name alone. This is general equipment guidance, not a model-specific recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does “2025” mean every motorcycle listed was available as a 2025 model in every country?

No. The list covers the 2025 model-year and launch cycle. Availability, emissions certification, trim names, equipment, pricing, and delivery dates vary by market. The KTM 990 RC R requires special care: it was part of the 2025 announcement cycle, but later KTM material identifies the production motorcycle as a 2026 model-year vehicle arriving after late-2025 production.

Which motorcycle is the most significant new arrival?

The Yamaha YZF-R9 is arguably the most consequential because it brings a current 890 cc three-cylinder engine, modern electronics, and a fully faired supersport layout to a middleweight category that has lost many traditional 600 cc options. That is an editorial judgment, not a claim that it is the fastest or best-handling motorcycle.

Are the horsepower, torque, weight, and price figures independent test results?

No. Figures such as the Aprilia Tuono 457’s 47.6 horsepower and 43.5 Nm, the KTM 990 RC R’s approximately 128 PS and 103 Nm, the Ducati Streetfighter V2’s claimed 386-pound weight, and the Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST’s 127 horsepower and 145 pound-feet are manufacturer-published claims or specifications. Independent testing may produce different results.

Which motorcycles on the list are best for touring?

The BMW R 1300 RT is the dedicated luxury grand-tourer. The Ducati Multistrada V2 offers road-focused adventure-touring versatility, while the Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX is the mature sport-tourer choice. The Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST adds premium bagger comfort and luggage capacity with a more performance-oriented brief.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

The Yamaha YZF-R9 is the broadest sign that the middleweight supersport category still has a future, while the Ducati V2 models and KTM 990 RC R provide the most dramatic sportbike reinventions. The Multistrada V2, BMW R 1300 RT, and Ninja 1100SX show that touring remains a major source of innovation, and the Indian 101 Scout and Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST prove that cruiser and bagger performance continue to evolve. The best choice depends less on a universal ranking than on whether you want track focus, road versatility, touring comfort, approachable performance, or a distinctive American performance format.
