The examples below are model-and-market pairings, not ten separate Holden model families: the Commodore appears more than once because its export badge varied by destination.
Why Holden cars carried other GM badges
Holden was a General Motors brand, and GM could market Holden-developed vehicles under a local GM marque in export markets. That did not always mean the exported vehicle was identical to the Holden version: the historical records variously describe cars as sold under another name, based on a Holden, or as an export of a Holden model family.
Holden’s historical export material records 60,518 vehicles exported in 2005, which it described as a record at that point. That figure counts vehicles, not the number of models or alternative badges.

Holden’s timeline identifies Chevrolet Omega as a Brazil export. The same timeline gives broader context that Holden exported left-hand-drive Commodores to Brazil from 1998; it does not establish a precise model-year span for the Omega. GM Holden heritage timeline

Commodore as Pontiac G8 in the United States
The VE Commodore SS took a place in GM’s high-performance lineup as the Pontiac G8. The City of Melbourne exhibition catalogue independently notes that the Pontiac G8 originated in Australia as a Holden Commodore. The museum’s wording is useful context: an export badge could make the Australian origin unfamiliar to buyers in the destination market. Statesman/Caprice basis for the Buick Royaum in China
Holden’s timeline describes the Buick Royaum as a Statesman/Caprice-based model exported to China. “Based on” is the source’s relationship; it should not be read as proof that the Royaum was exactly the same car in every specification. GM Holden heritage timeline
What the examples show—and what they do not
The Commodore is the clearest illustration of market-specific branding: the documented alternatives include Chevrolet Lumina in the Middle East and Thailand, Chevrolet Omega in Brazil, and Pontiac G8 in the United States. Other entries involve different kinds of relationships, including the G8 sport truck and Buick Royaum, which the sources describe as based on Holden models.
The historical materials do not consistently supply model years and trims for all these pairings, so the examples are best treated as documented name-and-market relationships rather than a complete catalog or a year-by-year interchange guide.
When Holden’s export story ended
General Motors announced in February 2020 that it would wind down sales, design and engineering operations in Australia and New Zealand and retire the Holden brand by 2021. General Motors announcement
