For U.S. buyers shopping 2026 models, “worth the money” depends on the kind of riding you plan to do—not on a single price or an unsupported claim about long-term costs. This shortlist pairs five Harley-Davidsons and five Indian Motorcycles with distinct roles, from entry-priced cruisers to touring bikes. The starting MSRPs below are manufacturer-listed figures, not out-the-door quotes.
How to compare these motorcycles
These are representative choices, not a tested or statistically ranked top ten. Compare bikes that serve similar needs: a lighter, lower-priced cruiser is not a direct substitute for a touring motorcycle with a different equipment brief. The value case for each pick is its fit with a rider’s priorities, its listed equipment or category, and its starting price.
Prices are 2026 U.S. starting MSRPs. Harley-Davidson says its base-model prices exclude tax, title, licensing, registration, destination charges, surcharges, accessories, and additional dealer charges; dealer prices may vary (Harley-Davidson’s November 3, 2025 announcement). Indian says MSRP excludes destination and handling fees, tax, title, license, and registration, and that destination charge and setup are additional; dealer prices may vary (Indian Motorcycle’s 2026 lineup). Ask local dealers for itemized out-the-door quotes and confirm availability, trim, and any incentive before comparing totals.
Harley-Davidson picks
1. Nightster — for a lower entry price and a sport-category Harley
Starting at $9,999, the Nightster is the lowest-priced Harley among the models on this list. Harley-Davidson places it in the Sport category, making it a sensible starting point for buyers drawn to a more compact, sport-oriented direction rather than a large touring bike. The price makes it the shortlist’s entry point; it does not, by itself, establish lower ownership costs or better value for every rider.

2. Street Bob — for a straightforward cruiser at a middle price point
At a $14,999 starting price, the Street Bob is a cruiser choice for riders who want a Harley in the middle of this shortlist’s price range without moving into touring-bike territory. It is worth considering if the cruiser role fits your riding and you prefer to spend below the Low Rider S and Heritage Classic starting prices.
Harley-Davidson lists the price in its 2026 U.S. model index; its 2026 lineup announcement includes it among the cruiser models.
3. Low Rider S — for a performance-leaning cruiser
The Low Rider S starts at $18,999 and gives the shortlist a cruiser option aimed at riders who prioritize a more performance-leaning character. It costs more than the Street Bob, so the case for the higher starting price is strongest when this model’s role and configuration appeal to you—not simply because it is more expensive.
Rank #2
- 2014 Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 Motorcycle Model 1/12 by Maisto 32326
Harley-Davidson’s 2026 U.S. model index lists the starting price, and its 2026 lineup announcement describes differences in cruiser engine tuning across the range.
4. Heritage Classic — for a cruiser buyer who wants a different style of Harley
Starting at $19,999, the Heritage Classic is another cruiser choice, positioned $1,000 above the Low Rider S on starting MSRP. Harley-Davidson’s 2026 announcement identifies it among the brand’s six distinct cruiser models. Consider it if its particular look and configuration suit you better than a sport-category or performance-leaning alternative at a lower price.
The price appears in Harley-Davidson’s 2026 U.S. model index; the cruiser lineup context is in its 2026 announcement.
5. Street Glide — for Grand American Touring
The Street Glide starts at $24,999 and is the Harley pick here for buyers looking at Grand American Touring rather than a cruiser or sport-category motorcycle. Harley-Davidson describes Street Glide and Road Glide as Grand American Touring models optimized for luxury, performance, and long-haul comfort. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not an independent comparison; decide whether the touring role justifies the higher starting price for your riding.

Indian Motorcycle picks
6. Scout Bobber — for an entry-priced Indian cruiser
With a $12,999 starting MSRP, the Scout Bobber is the lowest-priced Indian on this list. It is a Scout-family cruiser for buyers who want an Indian in a lower starting-price bracket than the Chief or Sport Chief. Indian also lists the Sport Scout at $13,499, so shoppers who like the Scout family can compare that alternative directly before choosing a configuration.
Prices and family choices are listed on Indian Motorcycle’s Scout page and 2026 lineup page.
7. Chief — for an old-school custom-look cruiser
The base Chief starts at $14,999. Indian describes it as an old-school custom-look cruiser. For the base Chief, Indian lists a 111-cubic-inch engine, 670-pound weight, 26-inch seat height, and 108 ft-lb of torque. Those figures are specific to the base Chief; verify the exact trim and specifications for the motorcycle you are considering.

Indian publishes the base model’s figures on its 2026 Chief page and its starting price in the 2026 lineup.
8. Sport Chief — for a performance-focused Chief-family option
Starting at $19,999, the Sport Chief costs more than the base Chief and is Indian’s performance-focused choice in the Chief family. It is the more relevant comparison for buyers weighing a performance-oriented cruiser against the Low Rider S, rather than comparing either bike with a touring model on price alone.
Indian’s Chief-family page describes the Sport Chief’s role; the starting MSRP appears in the 2026 lineup.
9. Chieftain — for a bagger or touring-family Indian
The Chieftain starts at $29,749 and belongs to Indian’s bagger/touring side of the lineup. The cited Chieftain Limited configuration is listed with a 116-cubic-inch engine, 820-pound weight, and 126 ft-lb of torque. These are Chieftain Limited specifications, not figures to apply to every Chieftain version; check the trim-level listing when comparing bikes.

10. Pursuit — for an Indian touring-bike buyer
At a $32,499 starting MSRP, the Pursuit is the most expensive motorcycle on this list. It is the touring-family choice for buyers whose priority is a touring motorcycle rather than a lower-priced cruiser. The higher entry price makes it a poor apples-to-apples comparison with the Scout Bobber or Chief; assess it against other touring bikes and the configuration you would actually buy.

The starting prices span $9,999 for the Nightster to $32,499 for the Pursuit, but the models are built for different categories and riding priorities. Use the comparison below to narrow the field by role, then compare local quotes for the specific trims you are considering.
| Model | Category or role | 2026 U.S. starting MSRP | Best fit in this shortlist |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harley-Davidson Nightster | Sport | $9,999 (Harley-Davidson) | Lower entry price; sport-category Harley |
| Harley-Davidson Street Bob | Cruiser | $14,999 (Harley-Davidson) | Middle-priced cruiser choice |
| Harley-Davidson Low Rider S | Performance-leaning cruiser | $18,999 (Harley-Davidson) | Rider prioritizing a performance-leaning cruiser |

| Indian Pursuit | Touring family | $32,499 (Indian Motorcycle) | Rider prioritizing Indian touring |
The table compares manufacturer starting prices and stated roles; it does not predict the final dealer price or establish reliability, resale value, maintenance expense, or total ownership cost. Harley-Davidson says its 2026 cruisers use the Milwaukee-Eight 117 in three tunes, with differences in intake and exhaust, cam profiles, and ride-mode programming. That manufacturer description is useful context when comparing its cruiser models, but it is not a substitute for checking each model’s details and riding fit.
Which Harley or Indian is worth the money?
Start with the category that matches your intended riding, then compare models within it. For a lower starting price, the Nightster and Scout Bobber are the shortlist’s entry points, but they serve different brand and category preferences. For a cruiser, compare the Street Bob, Low Rider S, and Heritage Classic with the Scout Bobber, Chief, and Sport Chief by exact model and fit. For touring, compare the Street Glide, Chieftain, and Pursuit as touring-family candidates rather than treating their prices as comparable to entry-level cruisers.
Before committing, sit on the exact model and trim, arrange a test ride where available, check local inventory, and request a written out-the-door quote. Harley-Davidson’s model index offers test-ride booking and local dealer inventory links; availability and final pricing depend on your location and dealer.
