A family-sized electric sedan can now launch harder than many purpose-built supercars, while a drag-focused V8 special can post a spectacular number only when it has the right fuel, tires and surface.
The cars below are ranked by their quickest documented or claimed 0–60-mph figures. The list includes road-legal series-production cars, limited editions and recently discontinued models whose performance figures remain relevant. Because manufacturers and magazines use different timing methods, these numbers are not perfectly interchangeable.
How this 0–60-mph list works
A manufacturer claim is not the same thing as an independently measured test. Car and Driver removes approximately 0.3 seconds of rollout from its standing-start figures, while MotorTrend removes a one-foot rollout. A prepared drag surface, ordinary pavement, tire choice, battery temperature and launch-control settings can all change the result.
There is also an important difference between 0–60 mph and 0–62 mph, the latter being the metric equivalent of 0–100 km/h. A car quoted at 2.5 seconds to 62 mph has not necessarily recorded 2.5 seconds to 60 mph.

1=. Rimac Nevera R — 1.66 seconds
The Nevera R ties the Demon 170 for the quickest published 0–60-mph time here. Rimac reported the 1.66-second launch during a 24-record performance session, part of a broader attempt to push its electric hypercar beyond the already absurd capability of the standard Nevera.
Unlike a conventional rear-drive supercar, the Nevera uses four electric motors and all-wheel drive. That means torque can be controlled at each wheel almost instantly, giving the car exceptional traction off the line. The qualification matters, however: 1.66 seconds is Rimac’s reported result, not a conventional magazine road-test figure.
1=. 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 — 1.66 seconds
The Demon 170 is the list’s most specialized machine. Dodge quotes 1.66 seconds to 60 mph and an NHRA-certified 8.91-second quarter-mile, but that headline acceleration depends on a specific setup. The car’s full 1,025-hp output is associated with high-ethanol fuel, and its factory-fitted Mickey Thompson ET Street R drag radials are designed to hook up on a prepared surface.
That makes the Demon 170 an extraordinary drag car, but not a like-for-like rival to a Lucid Air or Ferrari on ordinary road tires. It is also a limited-run 2023 model rather than a currently produced Challenger.

Before the Nevera R arrived, the regular Nevera had already established one of the most astonishing acceleration figures ever recorded for a road car. Rimac’s 1.74-second run took place at Automotive Testing Papenburg and was independently verified using Racelogic and Dewesoft data loggers.
The Nevera combines a large battery pack with four motors and sophisticated torque management. Its acceleration is repeatable in a way that a combustion car’s launch can struggle to match, although repeated full-power runs still depend on battery state and temperature.
4. 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X — 1.8 seconds
The Corvette ZR1X is the quickest independently tested car in this group according to Car and Driver’s recorded 1.8-second run. Chevrolet’s official figure is 1.89 seconds, while MotorTrend recorded 2.14 seconds on an unprepared surface after removing one-foot rollout.
Those results are not necessarily contradictory. They show how much the test environment matters at this level of performance. The ZR1X combines the Corvette’s twin-turbocharged V8 with hybrid assistance and all-wheel-drive capability, giving it the traction needed to exploit its power away from a stop.

For that reason, the safest description is not simply “the world’s fastest car.” It is a 1.8-second car in Car and Driver’s test, with Chevrolet quoting 1.89 seconds under its own conditions.
5. Lucid Air Sapphire — 1.89 seconds
The Air Sapphire proves that a luxury sedan can be a genuine acceleration weapon. Lucid quotes 1.89 seconds to 60 mph, along with 1,234 horsepower, a 205-mph top speed and an 8.95-second quarter-mile.
Its three-motor all-wheel-drive system provides the immediate response typical of a high-output EV, but the Sapphire is not merely a straight-line special. It also receives chassis and braking upgrades intended to make the large sedan capable in corners. The 1.89-second number should still be labeled a manufacturer claim rather than presented as a universal independent-test record.
6. Ferrari SF90 Stradale — 2.0 seconds
The SF90 Stradale was one of the cars that made hybrid performance impossible to dismiss. Car and Driver recorded 2.0 seconds to 60 mph from its 986-hp plug-in-hybrid powertrain.

Ferrari quotes 2.5 seconds to 100 km/h, which is a different endpoint and should not be directly compared with the magazine’s 0–60 result. The SF90 uses electric motors to fill in the low-speed torque gap while its turbocharged V8 builds power, producing the kind of launch that a traditional supercar could not easily achieve.
7. Tesla Model S Plaid — 1.99 seconds claimed
Tesla’s current Model S specification lists a 1.99-second 0–60-mph time. Car and Driver recorded 2.1 seconds in a later test of a 2026 Model S Plaid, so the published Tesla number is best treated as a manufacturer claim rather than a universally repeatable result.
The Plaid’s formula is straightforward but effective: three electric motors, all-wheel drive and software-controlled launch performance in a practical five-door sedan. Unlike some cars near the top of this list, it can carry passengers and luggage without looking like a dedicated hypercar, even if its acceleration is anything but ordinary.
8. Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package — 2.1 seconds
Porsche gives the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package a 2.1-second 0–60-mph time with Launch Control. The track-focused version is rated at up to 1,019 horsepower and removes the rear seats to save weight.

That specification is a reminder that Porsche’s figure requires the right launch procedure. The car’s strength is not only its initial hit: the Taycan’s power delivery remains forceful at higher speeds, while its chassis, brakes and thermal management are designed for hard use rather than a single social-media launch.
9. Lamborghini Revuelto — 2.2 seconds
Car and Driver recorded the Revuelto at 2.2 seconds to 60 mph. Lamborghini’s official specification is 2.5 seconds to 100 km/h. Those figures describe different tests, so there is no conflict to resolve.
The Revuelto uses a V12 plug-in-hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. Electric motors provide immediate assistance as the naturally aspirated engine builds revs, preserving the dramatic character expected from a Lamborghini while giving the car hypercar-grade launch performance.
10. Ferrari 296 GTB — 2.4 seconds
The Ferrari 296 GTB rounds out the list with a Car and Driver-tested 2.4-second sprint to 60 mph. Its 819-hp plug-in-hybrid powertrain combines a twin-turbocharged V6 with electric assistance and drives the rear wheels.
That rear-wheel-drive layout makes the result especially notable. The 296 GTB does not rely on front-axle electric motors to distribute launch torque, yet its electronics and tire technology allow it to post a figure that would have been hypercar territory only a few years ago.

Rollout
With rollout, the timing clock starts after the car has moved roughly one foot. That makes the published time quicker than a strict timer that begins at zero movement. Car and Driver and MotorTrend both account for rollout in their acceleration procedures, although their exact testing practices and presentation can differ.
Surface and tires
A prepared drag strip offers substantially more grip than ordinary asphalt. The Demon 170 takes this to an extreme with factory drag radials, while an EV tested on a cold or dusty surface may lose traction despite having enough motor power to spin its tires.
Claimed versus tested performance
Manufacturer figures often require Launch Control, a particular battery charge, the correct fuel and favorable conditions. Independent tests introduce variables such as ambient temperature, equipment, surface and driver technique. The Corvette ZR1X demonstrates the effect clearly: its published results range from 1.8 seconds in Car and Driver’s test to 2.14 seconds in MotorTrend’s test on an unprepared surface.

Other cars worth mentioning
The 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S is rated at 2.4 seconds to 60 mph with Launch Control, which is exceptionally quick but not enough to displace the cars above. Tesla’s Model X Plaid is also sometimes included in acceleration lists, but Tesla now identifies the Model X as no longer in production; any remaining examples are pre-owned inventory. It should therefore be treated as a discontinued model rather than a current new-car entry.
What actually makes a car quick to 60 mph?
- Traction: Power is useful only when the tires can transfer it to the road. All-wheel drive and precise torque control are major advantages.
- Instant torque: Electric motors deliver maximum torque from very low speed, eliminating much of the delay associated with building boost or revs.
- Launch control: Software coordinates the motor or engine, transmission, clutch and tires at the limit of available grip.
- Weight: A lighter car needs less force to accelerate, although battery-electric cars can offset their mass with extremely high power output and excellent traction.
- Conditions: Tire temperature, battery charge, fuel type, surface preparation and weather can decide whether a car repeats its advertised time.
FAQ
What is the fastest accelerating production car on this list?
The Rimac Nevera R and 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 are tied at a claimed 1.66 seconds to 60 mph. The Nevera R’s figure comes from Rimac’s record session, while the Demon 170’s number depends on high-ethanol fuel, factory drag radials and suitable conditions.
Is 0–60 mph the same as 0–100 km/h?
No. Sixty mph equals approximately 96.6 km/h, so 0–60 mph ends sooner than 0–100 km/h. A manufacturer’s 0–100-km/h figure should not be silently converted into a 0–60-mph result.
Why can the same car have different 0–60 times?
Testers may use different rollout rules, surfaces, tires and launch procedures. Battery temperature and charge, fuel type and weather also matter. The Corvette ZR1X, for example, has been recorded at 1.8 seconds by Car and Driver and 2.14 seconds by MotorTrend under different conditions.
Which car here is quickest without all-wheel drive?
The Ferrari 296 GTB is the quickest rear-wheel-drive car in this ranking, with Car and Driver recording 2.4 seconds to 60 mph. Its 819-hp plug-in-hybrid powertrain makes that result particularly impressive without front-axle electric drive.
The Bottom Line
The headline 0–60 king is a tie between the Rimac Nevera R and Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 at a claimed 1.66 seconds, but those cars achieve the figure in very different ways. The Rimac uses sophisticated four-motor electric all-wheel drive; the Dodge is a drag-focused V8 special that needs the right fuel, tires and surface.
For independently tested performance, the Corvette ZR1X’s 1.8-second Car and Driver result is the standout here. The broader lesson is that a 0–60 number needs attribution: rollout, surface and setup can matter almost as much as horsepower.
