If “most common” means the new vehicles Americans bought most often, the answer is overwhelmingly trucks and SUVs—not the cars you are most likely to see in the average parking lot. Based on Kelley Blue Book/Cox Automotive figures reported by Automotive News, these were the 10 best-selling new light-vehicle nameplates and vehicle lines in the United States from January 1 through December 31, 2025.
The list includes several combined truck families, and Tesla’s Model Y figure is an estimate because Tesla does not report U.S. model-level sales in the same way as most automakers.

1. Ford F-Series: 828,832 sales
The Ford F-Series was America’s best-selling vehicle line in 2025, finishing more than 248,000 sales ahead of the second-place Chevrolet Silverado.

This is a family total rather than the sales of one narrowly defined model. It includes the F-150, F-150 Lightning, F-250, F-350 and larger F-Series trucks. That broad reporting method helps explain why the F-Series total is so large: buyers choosing a half-ton pickup and commercial customers buying heavy-duty models are counted in the same line.
2. Chevrolet Silverado: 580,368 sales
The Silverado was the second-best-selling vehicle line in the country. Its 2025 total combines the Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500 and Silverado EV.
Chevrolet and GMC share many truck components, but the Silverado and GMC Sierra remain separate nameplates in sales rankings. The Silverado figure also does not include Sierra sales.
3. Toyota RAV4: 479,288 sales
The Toyota RAV4 was the best-selling vehicle in the ranking that was neither a pickup nor a truck family. Its total includes gasoline, hybrid and plug-in-hybrid versions.
Its position illustrates the strength of compact SUVs in the U.S. market. The RAV4 offers a smaller footprint than a full-size pickup while still providing the raised seating position, cargo flexibility and available all-wheel drive many buyers now expect.
4. Honda CR-V: 403,768 sales
The Honda CR-V ranked fourth overall and was the second-best-selling compact SUV on this list. The reported total covers the CR-V family, including hybrid versions.

The CR-V was one of two compact crossover SUVs in the top four, alongside the RAV4. Together, those vehicles sold nearly 883,000 units in 2025, although the figure is based on each manufacturer’s nameplate reporting rather than a single standardized industry definition.
5. Ram Truck: 374,059 sales
“Ram Truck” is another combined truck line, not one individual pickup. The total includes the Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Ram 3500 and heavier-duty Ram models.

Ram’s fifth-place result kept it ahead of the closely related GMC Sierra in the annual ranking. As with the F-Series, combining light-duty and heavy-duty trucks produces a broader number than counting only one body style or one payload class.
6. GMC Sierra: 356,218 sales
The GMC Sierra was the sixth-best-selling vehicle line in America in 2025. Its total represents the Sierra 1500 and heavy-duty versions, including the Sierra HD models.
The Sierra shares underlying architecture and mechanical components with the Chevrolet Silverado, but the two are sold as distinct brands with different styling, equipment packages and dealer networks. For sales purposes, they are counted separately.
7. Chevrolet Equinox: 332,301 sales
The Chevrolet Equinox placed seventh after benefiting from the redesigned 2025 model. The reported total is for the gasoline Equinox line.

Equinox figures can vary considerably between published rankings because some sources handle the Equinox EV differently. Depending on the methodology, the electric version may be excluded from the gasoline nameplate total or listed separately. That is why another publication may show a lower Equinox number while still describing the same market year.
8. Tesla Model Y: approximately 317,800 sales
The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling electric vehicle in the United States in 2025 and ranked eighth among all vehicles and vehicle lines in this list.
Its total is an estimate, not a directly reported U.S. model-by-model figure. Tesla reports global deliveries but does not provide the same detailed U.S. sales breakdown that companies such as Ford, Toyota and General Motors publish. The estimate should therefore be treated as less precise than the other figures.
9. Toyota Camry: 316,185 sales
The Toyota Camry was the only traditional passenger sedan in the top 10 and America’s best-selling sedan in 2025. It remained in the overall ranking despite the market’s strong preference for pickups and SUVs.

10. Toyota Tacoma: 274,638 sales
The Toyota Tacoma was the only midsize pickup in the top 10. Its 2025 total included hybrid Tacoma sales and represented one of the larger year-over-year gains among the vehicles in the ranking.

The Tacoma occupies a different part of the truck market from the full-size F-Series, Silverado, Ram and Sierra. It is smaller and generally easier to maneuver, while still serving buyers who want an open bed and genuine pickup capability.
What this list says about American vehicle buying
Pickups and SUVs dominate
Eight of the 10 entries are pickup-truck lines or SUVs. The remaining two are the Tesla Model Y crossover and Toyota Camry sedan. In practical terms, only one conventional car—the Camry—appears in the top 10.
The RAV4 was the top-selling non-pickup
The RAV4’s 479,288 sales put it ahead of every SUV and crossover in the ranking. It also finished well ahead of the CR-V, the second-highest-ranked compact SUV.
The Camry was the leading sedan
The Camry’s ninth-place overall result made it the country’s top-selling sedan. No other traditional passenger car reached this top 10.
The Model Y was the only EV in the top 10
The Model Y was the sole fully electric vehicle in the overall ranking. Its estimated 317,800 sales placed it just behind the Equinox and slightly ahead of the Camry.

For example, one alternate 2025 ranking lists 588,709 Silverado sales, 348,222 Sierra sales and 274,356 Equinox sales. Those figures differ from the KBB/Cox Automotive totals because that methodology excludes certain electric derivatives from the relevant nameplate totals. Neither set of figures necessarily indicates an error; the definitions are different.
The ranking used here is best described as America’s 10 best-selling new vehicles and vehicle lines in 2025—not a literal count of which models are most numerous on the road. Vehicles sold years ago remain in service, while sales data measures only new purchases during the calendar year.
