A car can be collectible without being a reliable way to make money. A guide value or a model’s past price movement does not tell you what your specific car will sell for, or what you will keep after ownership and selling costs.
Hagerty is both a specialist insurer and a market-data publisher. Its 2026 US Bull Market List identifies 11 candidates, with values based on condition #2; those reference values range from under $10,000 to more than $1 million. Hagerty says its selections draw on public and private sales, historical trends, insurance valuations, and buyer and seller behavior. UK alternatives show why past price changes are not a ranking
Hagerty UK’s January 11, 2026 list includes cars with both gains and declines in its stated five-year price differences. The figures below are UK guide values and historical changes reported by Hagerty UK; they are not forecasts. In particular, the A80 Supra had peaked in mid-2023 and was relatively flat afterward, despite its positive five-year change.

The SLK R171 also illustrates the difference between demand and appreciation: Hagerty UK reported that 95% of its 2025 auction listings sold, the highest sell-through rate among its 2026 UK selections, while its stated five-year price difference was 0%. Which classic cars are most likely to hold their value?
No model can be identified as most likely to hold value from these lists alone. The broader UK market is a caution against assuming that collectability means growth: in Hagerty UK’s 2025 review, nearly 80% of the values it tracked had fallen or remained static. That describes the UK Hagerty Price Guide, not every classic-car market. Hagerty UK also said its Hot Hatch and RADwood indices were the only indices showing meaningful growth relative to December 2024. For an individual purchase, assess the actual car rather than relying on the badge. Hagerty emphasizes careful condition grading and notes that examples of the same model can differ substantially. Are classic cars a good investment?

To estimate a possible net result, start with what you would realistically pay for the specific car, then account for maintenance and repairs, transport, storage, insurance, selling or auction fees, and applicable taxes. These costs reduce proceeds; a guide-price increase alone does not show whether ownership would have made money. The relevant tax treatment depends on your jurisdiction and circumstances, so check local rules rather than assuming a universal rate.
