The best factory car audio systems in 2023 were not necessarily the ones with the highest speaker count or biggest amplifier. Good sound depends on tuning, speaker placement, cabin acoustics, road noise, source quality, and how well the system is integrated into the vehicle.
This is an editorial selection of 10 2023 vehicles with especially ambitious factory audio options. Several systems below were expensive upgrades, and some were limited to particular trims or markets. Check the original window sticker or equipment list before assuming a used example has the system described.

Speaker and wattage figures are useful specifications, not a laboratory ranking. A well-tuned 19-speaker system can sound more natural than a poorly integrated 36-speaker system. Listening position, music source, tire noise and personal taste all affect the result.
1. Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound
The S-Class had one of the most technically distinctive factory audio options for 2023: the Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound System. Its headline specification was 31 loudspeakers, eight seat-mounted exciters and 1,750 watts of power.

- Professional installation is strongly recommended to ensure proper setup, safety, and optimal performance. This amplifier must be installed by a qualified technician using appropriate tools and protective equipment, including safety glasses and insulated gloves. Improper installation may result in damage, injury, or voided warranty.
The seat exciters are the unusual part. They add tactile energy through the seats, particularly in the bass, so occupants can feel some of the low-frequency impact instead of hearing it only through the air. Surround processing and height effects add to the sense of an enveloping sound field.
There is an important used-car caveat: not every 2023 S-Class had this system. The model also offered standard audio and a lower-tier Burmester 3D system. The 31-speaker specification identifies the upgraded 4D package.
2. BMW 7 Series: Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound
The optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System gave the 2023 BMW 7 Series an exceptionally elaborate cabin audio setup. It used up to 36 speakers, a 32-channel amplifier and 1,965 watts.
Its hardware included Diamond Dome tweeters, Continuum midrange drivers, speakers in the head restraints and 4D seat shakers. Dolby Atmos capability was also part of the system’s spatial-audio appeal, although the quality of the experience depends on the source material and the listener’s settings.

The standard setup used 18 speakers and 655 watts. The 36-speaker figure applies to the optional Diamond system, so a used car’s build sheet matters more than the model name alone.
3. Porsche Taycan: Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound
The Taycan’s optional Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound System was designed for a relatively low, tightly packaged performance-car cabin. It used 21 individually driven speakers, including an active subwoofer, with 1,455 watts of amplification.
Auro-3D spatial reproduction and a dedicated center channel help produce a broad soundstage. The result is intended to make the music feel less like it is coming from isolated door speakers and more like it is surrounding the occupants.

Porsche also offered its own lower-cost Porsche Sound system and a Bose option. The Burmester package was not universal, and availability could be affected by the vehicle’s configuration. In particular, it was not available with certain packages, including the Weissach Package on relevant Taycan versions.

The Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound System in the Lexus LS stood out for its power and speaker placement. The system used 23 speakers, 16 channels and approximately 2,400 watts, along with Quantum Logic Immersion processing.
Four speakers were integrated into the headliner. That placement helps create a taller, more enveloping presentation than a conventional system built mainly into the doors and dashboard. The LS’s quiet, heavily insulated cabin also gives the system a favorable environment for detailed listening.
Check the exact vehicle before applying these figures to another Lexus. Mark Levinson equipment varied by model and trim, and a Mark Levinson badge on a different Lexus does not automatically indicate the LS specification.
5. Range Rover: Meridian Signature Sound System
The top-end Meridian Signature Sound System was a strong match for the 2023 Range Rover’s spacious, quiet interior. It used 1,600 watts and added 20-watt speakers to each of the four main headrests.

Those headrest speakers can make the front and rear seating positions feel more individually enveloped. Meridian’s current material describes the highest specification as having up to 35 or 39 speakers, depending on model and configuration, so it is safer to verify the exact vehicle than to quote one universal number.
The 1,600-watt Signature system was not available on the SE trim. It was standard on Autobiography and First Edition versions of the new-generation Range Rover, while other versions depended on their equipment configuration.

6. Bentley Continental GT: Naim for Bentley
The Naim for Bentley system brought high-end home-audio branding and hardware to the Continental GT. Its specification included 20 speakers and a 2,200-watt amplifier.
Rather than simply installing generic premium speakers, Bentley and Naim developed the system around the Continental GT’s cabin. Naim amplification and Focal-derived speaker technology were used as part of that package, with the goal of delivering strong output without losing the refined character expected in a luxury grand tourer.
Bentley offered Naim audio in several models, including the Flying Spur and Bentayga, so trim and model-year checks are worthwhile. Also avoid confusing the regular Continental GT system with the special Naim for Mulliner system created for the extremely limited 2023 Batur.
7. Jeep Grand Wagoneer: McIntosh MX1375 Reference Entertainment System
The Grand Wagoneer offered one of the most powerful audio systems in a large three-row SUV: the McIntosh MX1375 Reference Entertainment System. It used 23 speakers, a 24-channel amplifier, 1,375 watts and a 12-inch subwoofer.
McIntosh’s 3D Adaptive Sound Processing adjusts spatial effects according to the source material. That is useful in a large cabin, where different seating positions can otherwise make the soundstage feel uneven.
However, not every Wagoneer-family vehicle received the MX1375. Lower configurations used the 19-speaker, 950-watt McIntosh MX950 system. The MX1375 was standard on specified Grand Wagoneer Series III models and available on select higher versions, so inspect the trim and options list carefully.

8. Cadillac Escalade: AKG Studio Reference
The available AKG Studio Reference system gave the 2023 Cadillac Escalade a 36-speaker audio option. It was aimed at making the large SUV’s three-row cabin feel more like a mobile listening room, with extensive speaker coverage throughout the interior.

- 400W RMS POWER Class D amplifier. Delivers 4 x 100W at 2 Ohms or 2 x 200W bridged at 4 Ohms for powerful flexible performance
- FACTORY & AFTERMARKET READY. High-Level auto turn-on and RCA inputs work with OEM and aftermarket stereos.
- BUILT-IN CROSSOVER. HPF, LPF and Full Range modes optimize speakers, drivers, tweeters and compact subwoofers with ease.
- BUILT FOR ANY RIDE. Perfect for cars, motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, golf carts, boats, trunks, SUVs and custom audio builds.
- EFFICIENT CLASS D DESIGN. 12V full-range amplifier delivers clear sound, easy installation and reliable daily performance.
The 36-speaker figure should not be treated as proof that the Escalade will sound better to every listener. Speaker count does not measure tonal balance, imaging or distortion, and preferences differ between owners.
There was also a 19-speaker AKG Studio system. The 36-speaker Studio Reference system required the Touring Package on applicable trims. When shopping, verify the package from the build sheet rather than assuming every Escalade has the top audio hardware.
9. Volvo XC90: Bowers & Wilkins High-Fidelity Audio
The optional Bowers & Wilkins High-Fidelity Audio System made the 2023 Volvo XC90 a compelling choice for buyers who wanted premium sound without moving into an ultra-luxury vehicle. It used 19 precisely tuned speakers and a 1,410-watt amplifier.

One of its most interesting features was Volvo’s Fresh Air Subwoofer. Instead of relying on a large conventional subwoofer enclosure, the system uses the vehicle’s body structure and cabin architecture to produce low frequencies. This saves space while still giving the XC90 a substantial low-end presentation.
Volvo designed the system around the XC90’s cabin rather than treating it as a collection of off-the-shelf speakers. It was an upgraded audio configuration, though, and was not fitted to every XC90 trim.

The available Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System with 3D sound gave the 2023 Audi A8 a highly engineered audio option. Depending on market and equipment level, the advanced version used 23 speakers, a 23-channel amplifier and 1,920 watts.
Its design included upward-firing speakers in the A-pillars and rear headliner, a center speaker and motorized acoustic lenses. The lenses extend into position when the system is activated, combining a visual demonstration with a practical effort to control how sound spreads through the cabin.

Audi also offered a lower-level 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D system. “B&O audio” is therefore not a sufficiently precise description when comparing A8s; confirm whether the car has the Advanced system and check the market-specific equipment list.
What to check when buying a used car with premium audio
- Identify the exact system. Look for the full system name on the window sticker, build sheet or vehicle settings menu. A brand badge alone may only identify a lower-tier option.
- Check the trim and package. Several of these systems were optional or restricted to higher trims. The Escalade’s 36-speaker AKG system, BMW’s 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system and the Grand Wagoneer’s MX1375 are clear examples.
- Listen from every important seat. A system can sound excellent in the driver’s seat but less balanced in the second or third row. Test vocals, bass-heavy tracks and acoustic instruments at moderate volume.
- Test multiple sources. Try Bluetooth, USB, satellite radio and the built-in streaming interface if available. Poorly encoded or heavily compressed music can make a high-end system sound disappointing.
- Check for rattles and distortion. Play bass at several volume levels and listen for buzzing door panels, blown speakers or subwoofer distortion. Replacing integrated premium-audio components can be expensive.
- Do not compare wattage as though it were sound quality. Amplifier output can indicate system ambition, but it does not establish accuracy, loudness or musicality by itself.
FAQ
Which 2023 car had the most speakers?
Several vehicles reached or approached the same range. The BMW 7 Series offered up to 36 speakers with its optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond system, while the Cadillac Escalade offered a 36-speaker AKG Studio Reference system. The Range Rover’s highest Meridian specification was described as having up to 35 or 39 speakers depending on configuration. More speakers do not automatically mean better sound.
Was the 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system standard on every 2023 BMW 7 Series?
No. The 36-speaker, 1,965-watt Diamond Surround Sound system was optional. The 2023 7 Series also had a standard 18-speaker, 655-watt Bowers & Wilkins system.
Which luxury SUV had the best factory sound system in 2023?
The Range Rover, Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Cadillac Escalade were among the strongest choices, but there is no objective universal winner. The top Range Rover used Meridian Signature audio, the Grand Wagoneer offered McIntosh MX1375, and the Escalade offered 36-speaker AKG Studio Reference audio. Exact trim and package determine which system a vehicle actually has.
Does higher amplifier wattage mean a better car audio system?
No. Wattage describes part of the amplifier specification, not overall audio quality. Tuning, speaker design, placement, cabin acoustics, road noise and source quality can matter just as much or more.
The Bottom Line
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Porsche Taycan, Lexus LS, Range Rover, Bentley Continental GT, Grand Wagoneer, Cadillac Escalade, Volvo XC90 and Audi A8 all offered unusually sophisticated factory audio systems for 2023. The right choice depends less on the biggest published number than on the system’s tuning and the vehicle’s cabin.
For a used purchase, confirm the exact audio option before paying a premium. The standard and upgraded systems can differ dramatically within the same model, and model-year equipment varied by trim and country.
