You can find entertaining used cars with asking prices below $15,000, but the evidence supports a shortlist—not ten verified winners available everywhere in clean condition. The strongest documented targets are specific older examples of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Audi TT, Ford Mustang, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Chevrolet Camaro, plus the 2019 Hyundai Veloster. Treat the prices below as national analysis figures, not promises about local listings; year, trim, mileage, condition, title and fees change the deal.
What sports cars can you actually get for under $15,000?
These six models have direct support in the cited under-$15,000 comparisons. Five are specific older model-year examples; the Veloster is included in a coupe analysis, although some shoppers would call it a sporty hatchback rather than a conventional sports car.
| Model to search | Price evidence | Why it may fit | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe | $12,904 in iSeeCars’ fastest-cars-under-$15,000 comparison; page accessed 2026. | A rear-wheel-drive coupe for shoppers prioritizing power-oriented character. | Confirm engine and trim, and scrutinize maintenance, modifications and accident history. |
| 2012 Audi TT | $14,266 in iSeeCars’ fastest-cars-under-$15,000 comparison; page accessed 2026. | A compact coupe or roadster alternative to larger, more overtly muscular cars. | It is an older car; weigh its appeal against age and potential repair exposure. The source does not establish repair costs. |
| 2014 Ford Mustang | $13,764 in iSeeCars’ fastest-cars-under-$15,000 comparison; page accessed 2026. | A muscle-car choice for shoppers who favor straight-line character. | Engine, trim and condition matter: do not assume every Mustang drives or performs the same. |
| 2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata | $14,498 in iSeeCars’ fastest-cars-under-$15,000 comparison; page accessed 2026. | A light, two-seat roadster aimed at handling and open-air driving. | Its two-seat layout means less passenger and cargo flexibility than a coupe. |
| 2012 Chevrolet Camaro | $13,574 in iSeeCars’ fastest-cars-under-$15,000 comparison; page accessed 2026. | A power-oriented coupe to compare with the Mustang. | Test visibility and day-to-day practicality yourself; performance varies by trim. |
| 2019 Hyundai Veloster | $13,750 average used price in iSeeCars’ 2026 under-$15,000 coupe analysis. | A newer, hatchback-style option if you want a sporty shape with a more practical layout. | The analysis classifies it as a coupe, but not every buyer will consider it a sports car. |
Prices are not directly interchangeable: the first five are figures from a fastest-cars comparison, while the Veloster figure is an average in a separate coupe analysis. None guarantees that a local car in sound condition will be advertised at that amount. The wider used market is expensive by comparison: Consumer Reports reported an average used-car listing price of $26,918 in an article updated July 9, 2026. That is a general-market figure, not a sports-car average, but it helps explain why a $15,000 target often involves older vehicles, higher mileage, or both. Which one should you choose?
For light handling and open-air driving: Mazda MX-5 Miata
The Miata is the clearest match if the priority is a compact, two-seat roadster rather than a large engine or extra seats. iSeeCars ranks the MX-5 Miata first in its 2026 sports-car reliability list. That is a model-level ranking, not a guarantee about a used example: prior use, maintenance, mileage and condition still matter. See iSeeCars’ sports-car reliability rankings.

For muscle-car character: Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro
The Mustang and Camaro offer coupe layouts and a more power-oriented brief. Pick by the specific car, not the badge: compare engine and trim, then assess visibility, seating, condition and service history in person. iSeeCars places Mustang coupes second and Camaro coupes third in its 2026 sports-car reliability ordering, but those broad rankings cannot tell you whether a particular modified or poorly maintained car is a sound buy. iSeeCars’ reliability analysis.
For a compact coupe or roadster: Audi TT
The TT is worth a look if a compact, distinctive coupe or roadster appeals more than a larger muscle car. Its cited example is a 2012 model, so age deserves attention during inspection. The available price evidence does not establish what repairs will cost or how a particular car has been maintained.
Rank #2
For a rear-drive coupe: Hyundai Genesis Coupe
The 2014 Genesis Coupe is a candidate for shoppers seeking a rear-wheel-drive, power-oriented coupe. Verify the exact engine and trim, and give extra scrutiny to modifications, accident repairs and maintenance records rather than assuming an advertised bargain is a stock, well-kept car.
For a sporty hatchback-style option: Hyundai Veloster
The 2019 Veloster is the newest model-year example in this shortlist, with a reported $13,750 average in iSeeCars’ 2026 coupe analysis. The site gives it an overall score of 7.9/10, with component scores of 6.9/10 for reliability, 8.7/10 for value retention and 8.0/10 for safety. These are iSeeCars’ scores and definitions, not guarantees or universal measures. Its analysis says rankings draw on more than 12 million vehicles and NHTSA safety data. How to compare listings without overvaluing the model name
At this budget, compare the actual car and the full cost of buying it, not just the advertised price. A clean, documented example with defects addressed can make more sense than a more desirable model with unresolved problems.
- Driving needs: Decide whether you want light, responsive handling or a more power-oriented coupe.
- Space: Check seat count, access, visibility and cargo room against your daily use. A two-seat roadster is a very different fit from a coupe or hatchback-style car.
- Condition and history: Review service records, ownership and accident or repair history; check the title, warning lights, leaks, tires, brakes, open recalls, modifications and signs of track use.
- Full budget: Leave room for taxes, registration, insurance, maintenance and unexpected repairs. The cited prices are used-car price figures, not estimates of total ownership cost.
- Local reality: Compare listings in your area by year, trim, mileage, title status and condition. A national average or comparison figure is not a local transaction price.
Get an independent inspection before buying
Consumer Reports recommends a thorough inspection by a certified mechanic before purchase. Arrange it before committing, and ask the mechanic to assess the specific car—not simply confirm that the model is generally desirable. An inspection can reveal problems; it cannot eliminate the risk of future repairs. Consumer Reports’ used-car guidance.

Model year matters as much as model name. Edmunds describes the 2022–2025 Toyota GR86 generation with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine rated at 228 hp and 184 lb-ft, and lists an average price of $29,548. That makes it a useful newer sports-coupe comparison, not a normal fit for a $15,000 cap. Car and Driver’s displayed marketplace values for newer BRZ and Miata examples are also above the cap. Do not treat those recent generations as readily available at this budget. Edmunds’ GR86 information; Car and Driver’s marketplace listings.
