The best used luxury SUV is the one that fits your budget, passenger and cargo needs, and tolerance for ownership costs—not necessarily the one at the top of a ranking. This shortlist brings together 10 compact and midsize options, including two- and three-row choices. It is an editorial selection, not a universal ranking: published scores measure different things, and none can tell you the condition of a particular vehicle.

How to use this shortlist

Start with the job the SUV needs to do. Compact models suit a different footprint than midsize models, and a third row matters only if the specific vehicle has one and its seating arrangement works for your passengers. The candidates below were selected to give U.S. shoppers a range of sizes, seating configurations, and price-band evidence—not because one source ranked these exact 10 in this order.

iSeeCars’ 2026 used-luxury-SUV rankings combine reliability, resale value, and safety information. The company says its underlying Longest-Lasting Cars and 5-Year Depreciation studies analyzed more than 12 million new and used vehicles, alongside NHTSA safety ratings; its reliability page also describes a role for IIHS information in safety scoring. CARFAX’s 2026 ranking instead focuses on unexpected repair likelihood for 2019–2023 models. Those methods answer different questions, so their results should not be treated as interchangeable or as a promise about an individual SUV.

10 used luxury SUVs to consider

1. Acura RDX — compact pick with a favorable repair-likelihood result

The RDX is a compact candidate if you do not need a midsize footprint. CARFAX’s 2026 ranking put the average unexpected repair likelihood for its 2019–2023 RDX cohort at 2.5%, compared with an 11.0% segment average in that ranking. That is a cohort-level figure, not a prediction for every model year or a specific used RDX; condition and maintenance records still matter.

2. Acura MDX — a three-row choice with a budget-specific ranking result

Consider the MDX if you need the three-row configuration identified in iSeeCars’ overview. In iSeeCars’ 2026 midsize ranking, the 2020 MDX ranked first in the under-$30,000 category. That result can help frame a search at that budget, but it is not a live market quote and does not establish that every 2020 MDX will sell for less than $30,000.

3. Audi Q5 — compact option for a smaller SUV shortlist

The Q5 is one of iSeeCars’ compact used-luxury-SUV candidates. It gives shoppers a compact alternative to the midsize three-row choices on this list. The cited material does not establish a Q5-specific repair-likelihood figure or a budget-category win, so compare the exact year and vehicle history rather than assuming a model-wide reliability advantage.

4. Audi Q7 — three-row midsize candidate

The Q7 belongs on a search for a midsize SUV when three rows are part of the requirement; iSeeCars identifies three-row Q7 versions. Verify the actual listing’s seating configuration and inspect its condition. The ranking material cited here does not supply a Q7-specific CARFAX repair-likelihood percentage.

5. BMW X3 — compact candidate with a CARFAX cohort figure

The X3 is a compact option for shoppers whose needs do not call for a midsize vehicle. CARFAX reported a 4.9% average repair likelihood for 2019–2023 X3 models in its 2026 ranking, against its 11.0% segment average. The comparison applies only to that ranking’s cohort and methodology; it cannot tell you whether an individual X3 has been maintained well.

6. BMW X5 — midsize choice where configuration matters

The X5 is a midsize candidate in iSeeCars’ overview. Seating can vary by model year, so do not assume that an X5 has the row count you need: check the VIN-specific listing, documentation, and vehicle itself. The evidence summarized here does not establish an X5-specific price-band win or repair-likelihood result.

7. Lexus RX 350 — midsize option with an under-$35,000 ranking result

The RX 350 is a midsize candidate if you want to compare a two-row-size class vehicle with larger three-row alternatives. In iSeeCars’ 2026 midsize ranking, the 2020 RX 350 ranked first in the under-$35,000 category. Treat that as a relative ranking result, not evidence of a current local price or a guarantee about an individual vehicle.

8. Lexus GX 460 — midsize candidate appearing in both value and repair-likelihood evidence

The GX 460 ranked first in iSeeCars’ 2026 under-$40,000 midsize category for the 2020 model. CARFAX reported a 3.0% average repair likelihood for its 2019–2023 GX cohort, compared with an 11.0% segment average in that ranking. These are separate publishers’ results with different methods; neither substitutes for checking the specific GX’s service records and condition.

9. Infiniti QX60 — three-row midsize option

The QX60 is worth including when your shortlist needs a three-row midsize candidate; iSeeCars identifies three-row QX60 versions. Confirm that the particular SUV has the seating configuration you need. The cited evidence does not provide a QX60-specific repair-likelihood figure or a budget winner.

10. Volvo XC90 — another three-row midsize candidate

The XC90 rounds out the three-row choices: iSeeCars’ overview identifies three-row versions. Check the vehicle’s actual seating layout and compare its condition and records with the other midsize options you are considering. The evidence cited here does not establish an XC90-specific repair-likelihood figure or price-band win.

What the reliability numbers do—and do not—tell you

CARFAX’s 2026 figures describe average unexpected repair likelihood for 2019–2023 model-year cohorts in its ranking. It reported 2.5% for Acura RDX, 4.9% for BMW X3, and 3.0% for Lexus GX; its segment average was 11.0%. The same ranking also reported 2.8% for Lexus UX, 4.7% for Infiniti QX50, 5.0% for Porsche Macan, and 5.2% for Porsche Cayenne, all within that cohort. These figures do not cover every year of each model, predict an individual car’s future costs, or guarantee trouble-free ownership.

iSeeCars uses a broader mix of reliability, resale value, and safety information. Its ranking may favor a different vehicle than a repair-likelihood-only list because it is measuring more than one factor. Compare the metric behind a ranking before using it to choose between SUVs, and weigh it alongside the specific car’s records, inspection findings, safety equipment, and fit for your household.

How to choose among the candidates

  1. Set the seating and cargo requirement first. Decide how many people and how much cargo must fit on a normal trip. Then confirm the exact vehicle’s row count and configuration; model names alone do not establish seating.
  2. Keep comparisons within the same size and budget. Compare compact SUVs with compact SUVs and midsize models with midsize models. Treat iSeeCars’ 2026 budget-category results as ranking evidence, not live listing prices.
  3. Read rankings by their stated metric. iSeeCars combines reliability, resale value, and safety; CARFAX’s cited 2026 ranking centers on unexpected repair likelihood for 2019–2023 models. Do not interpret either score as a guarantee about a specific car.
  4. Review the individual vehicle’s history and condition. Look for service records and have the particular SUV assessed before purchase. A model-level score cannot show whether a used example has been neglected, damaged, or repaired poorly.
  5. Check recalls by VIN. Obtain the vehicle identification number and use the NHTSA recall website, following Kiplinger’s buying guidance. Check whether any applicable recall is open and whether its repair has been completed.
  6. Compare safety on the actual model year and vehicle. A model-level ranking is not a substitute for checking the equipment and safety information applicable to the exact year and configuration you are considering.
