Among Hellcat-powered vehicles, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the standout for outright performance: Dodge rated it at up to 1,025 horsepower on high-ethanol fuel and reported an 8.91-second quarter mile. This ranking weighs performance, special-edition distinction and historical importance—not just horsepower—and includes both Hellcat-badged Dodges and other vehicles powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8.
How this Hellcat ranking works
“Hellcat” can mean a Dodge model with Hellcat in its name or a vehicle that uses the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8. This list includes both, so it covers coupes and a sedan as well as an SUV and a pickup. The order is an editorial judgment based on performance, special-edition distinction and historical importance; it is not an official Dodge or Stellantis ranking. Manufacturer performance claims are identified as such, not presented as independent instrumented tests.
The 10 best Hellcats, ranked
1. 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170
The Demon 170 takes the top spot for the most extreme factory performance figures in this group. Dodge rated it at 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque on higher-ethanol fuel blends; the company says it can produce 900 horsepower on E10. Dodge reported a 1.66-second 0–60 mph run and an NHRA-certified 8.91-second quarter mile at 151.17 mph. These are Dodge’s figures, and the horsepower depends on fuel ethanol content. The model also stands out as the final and most powerful entry in the Challenger’s Demon lineage.
Dodge announced a maximum production run of 3,300 cars—3,000 for the U.S. and 300 for Canada—subject to production capacity. That was an announced cap, not a confirmed final build total. The Demon 170’s staggered drag-radial setup was developed with Mickey Thompson; Dodge identifies a Mickey Thompson ET Street R P315/50R17 as the rear tire. It is a model-specific fitment, not a universal Hellcat tire, so buyers should check the car’s approved fitment and road-use requirements.

Dodge brand chief executive Tim Kuniskis framed the progression in the 2023 announcement: “In 2015, Dodge shocked the world with the 707 horsepower Hellcat. Then in 2018 we did it with the 840 horsepower Demon, and now we are doing it again with the 1,025 horsepower Demon 170, the world’s first sustainable-energy, eight-second factory-production, street-legal muscle car.” The final description is Dodge’s promotional characterization.
2. 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
The original Demon established the template the 170 pushed further: a factory Challenger with a drag-strip focus and power well beyond the initial Hellcat. In Dodge’s 2023 comparison, Kuniskis cited 840 horsepower for the 2018 Demon, between the 707-hp 2015 Hellcat and 1,025-hp Demon 170. Its significance is not only its place in that power progression; it made the Demon name a defining chapter in the modern Challenger’s performance story.
3. Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock
The Super Stock is a purpose-driven Challenger variant that puts drag-strip performance ahead of broad model-line versatility. Stellantis listed the 2023 model at 807 horsepower, and Dodge’s SRT overview described it as the quickest muscle car of its era. That is a time-bound company claim, not a claim that it remains the quickest today. It earns this position for pairing high output with a specific factory performance identity without relying on the Demon name.

4. Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye
The Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye offers a different proposition from the Challenger coupes: Hellcat performance in a four-door body. Stellantis listed the 2023 Redeye at 797 horsepower, while Dodge’s SRT page described it as offering best-in-class horsepower at the time. Its place here reflects the unusual combination of a high-output performance sedan and everyday passenger practicality; it is not a direct drag-strip equivalent to the two Demon models above.

5. Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye
The Challenger Redeye is a key technical predecessor to the Demon 170. Dodge’s Demon 170 announcement uses the Redeye Widebody as a boost-pressure comparison, establishing its role in the development line without making it the same kind of limited, drag-focused statement as the Demon models. It remains a notable Hellcat-era Challenger for shoppers and enthusiasts who want a street-oriented coupe rather than the Demon 170’s fuel-dependent peak-output story.
6. Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat
The Durango SRT Hellcat carries the supercharged V8 into a three-row SUV, where acceleration shares space with family-hauling utility. Stellantis’ 2020 announcement for the 2021 model listed 710 horsepower, 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, an 11.5-second quarter mile and a 290 km/h top speed. Those are manufacturer figures from the announcement, not independent test results. The same release said the SUV would be built for the 2021 model year only; that statement did not end later Hellcat activity, as Dodge’s current news hub lists a 2026 Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak.

7. Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
The Trackhawk broadens the list beyond Dodge: Ram’s SRT history page confirms that the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk used the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI SRT Hellcat V8. That makes it a compelling SUV alternative for readers interested in the engine’s reach outside a Dodge-badged vehicle. The cited history page confirms the engine connection, but does not provide comparable performance figures here, so this placement reflects its significance rather than a claimed head-to-head result.
8. Ram 1500 TRX
The Ram 1500 TRX brings the Hellcat V8 to a full-size, off-road-oriented pickup. Ram’s SRT history page confirms the engine connection. Its appeal is the contrast: a supercharged performance engine in a truck built around a very different use case from a low-slung coupe or sedan. It belongs in an inclusive Hellcat-powered ranking, but comparing it with the Challengers solely by quarter-mile results would miss what makes the TRX distinctive.

9. 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
The standard Challenger SRT Hellcat is the foundational modern Hellcat coupe in this ranking: a high-output, supercharged V8 muscle car that precedes the more specialized Redeye, Super Stock and Demon variants. Dodge’s SRT overview covers the Challenger HEMI range, while Stellantis’ 2022 Last Call announcement treated the 2023 Challenger HEMI forms as ending after that model year. The reviewed official figures do not establish a specific horsepower rating for this entry, so no figure is assigned here.

10. 2023 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat
The Charger SRT Hellcat rounds out the list as the four-door counterpart to the standard Challenger Hellcat. It matters because the Hellcat formula was not confined to two-door muscle cars: Dodge offered the supercharged HEMI experience in a sedan as well. Stellantis’ Last Call announcement placed the 2023 Charger HEMI forms at the end of that run. This entry is distinct from the higher-output Charger Redeye ranked above it; the sources cited here do not provide a model-specific output figure for the standard 2023 Charger SRT Hellcat.

On the available manufacturer-reported evidence, the 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the clear answer for straight-line acceleration: Dodge reported its 8.91-second quarter mile at 151.17 mph and a 1.66-second 0–60 mph run. Its 1,025-hp rating applies to higher-ethanol fuel blends; Dodge says the output is 900 horsepower on E10. The 2018 Demon is the historical predecessor, rated at 840 horsepower in Dodge’s 2023 comparison. These figures do not establish a universal ranking across body styles or independent test conditions.
Did Hellcats end after 2023?
Dodge and Stellantis described the 2023 Challenger and Charger HEMI models as the end of those nameplates’ HEMI run. That does not mean every Hellcat-powered vehicle ended in 2023: Dodge’s current news hub lists a 2026 Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak. The model-year qualification matters when describing the end of the Challenger and Charger era.
