This shortlist covers ten strong candidates across sport, touring, adventure, cruiser and standard categories, using official manufacturer lineups as of October 7, 2026. It is an editorial selection—not a head-to-head ranking or a claim based on comparative rides. Availability, specifications and prices depend on the country and model year, so check the exact version sold locally before deciding.
How to use this shortlist
The candidates below represent different jobs rather than ten interchangeable choices. Start with how and where you expect to ride, then compare fit, equipment and local cost within that category. The manufacturer pages confirm that these models or model families appear in the cited lineups; they do not establish comparative reliability, performance or value.
The market distinction matters: the Yamaha price examples below are U.S. 2026 MSRP, while Suzuki’s Hayabusa figures are from its Japan lineup. They are not directly comparable. Other candidates are included from official catalogs without a common price or specification set, so no unsupported prices or missing figures are supplied.
10 Japanese motorcycles to consider
1. Honda Gold Wing Tour — long-distance touring
The Gold Wing Tour is Honda’s touring-oriented candidate for riders whose priority is covering distance. Its role makes it a natural starting point for touring shoppers, but fit, luggage needs and equipment on the locally offered version should be checked with Honda’s market-specific listing. Honda’s lineup identifies the model; the available material does not provide a directly comparable specification or price here. Honda official motorcycle lineup.

The official lineup supports the model’s inclusion, but no common-market price or specification comparison is established here. Honda official motorcycle lineup.
3. Honda Rebel 1100 — cruiser
The Rebel 1100 represents the cruiser category. It is a candidate for buyers drawn to cruiser styling and riding posture rather than a sportbike or adventure format. 5. Yamaha YZF-R9 — sport
Yamaha lists the YZF-R9 on its Japan lineup page. 6. Suzuki Hayabusa — high-performance road riding
The Hayabusa stands out in Suzuki’s lineup as a large-displacement road motorcycle. Suzuki’s current Japan page lists a 1,339 cm³ engine, an 800 mm seat height and a price of ¥2,299,000. These are Japan-market figures from the lineup page accessed October 7, 2026; the page lists a special edition separately. Do not use the listed yen price as a current price in another country. Suzuki Japan motorcycle lineup.
7. Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE — adventure touring
The V-Strom 1050DE is Suzuki’s adventure-touring candidate. The Japanese lineup also includes V-Strom 1050, V-Strom 800 and V-Strom 800DE, giving buyers several models to investigate within the family. Compare the exact version available locally rather than assuming that names, configurations or prices carry across borders. Suzuki Japan motorcycle lineup.
8. Suzuki GSX-S1000GT — sport touring
The GSX-S1000GT gives this list a sport-touring option: a useful category to consider if you want a road-focused motorcycle for longer outings rather than a dedicated supersport or adventure model. The official Japanese listing establishes its place in Suzuki’s range, but the available evidence does not provide comparable local pricing or equipment details. Suzuki Japan motorcycle lineup.
9. Kawasaki Ninja 500 — approachable sport category
Kawasaki’s U.S. 2026 model page lists the Ninja 500 at 51.0 hp at 10,000 rpm. That is a manufacturer-published figure, not an independent test result. The same page gives estimated dry weights that vary with ABS and state configuration, so check the exact version rather than treating the model as having one universal weight. - Use case: Narrow the field to the role you need—touring, sport, adventure, cruiser or standard—before comparing models.
- Local model and year: Manufacturer lineups are market-specific and change over time. Confirm that the exact model year and configuration are sold where you live.
- Fit: Seat height is only one part of fit. Reach to the ground, handlebar position, footpeg placement and the bike’s balance at a stop matter in practice. A dealer visit or rental, where available, can help you assess posture and reach.
- Equipment and price: Compare equivalent versions, including standard equipment and options, and use local prices with fees and taxes clarified. Do not compare a Japan-listed price with U.S. MSRP as though they were the same market measure.
- Readiness and protection: Arrange properly fitted protective gear and any required rider training before riding. Honda Japan’s site links to a helmet and riding-gear shop, dealer listings, rentals and beginner lessons; those services are Japan-specific in the reviewed material. Riders elsewhere should consult their local manufacturer and applicable rules. Honda Japan motorcycle site.
Manufacturer sources by market
For additional candidates, Honda’s lineup includes models such as the NT1100, Transalp and CB family. Suzuki’s Japanese lineup also lists the GSX-R1000R, Katana and GSX-8R/8S. Kawasaki’s U.S. catalog organizes its range into families including Ninja, Z, Versys, Vulcan, KLE, KLR and KLX; Kawasaki Japan has a 2026 ZX-10R page. These catalogs are useful for checking local category options, not evidence that every model is available in every country or that one is objectively superior.
