The best aftermarket performance upgrades for a Ford Mustang GT depend on what you want the car to do: accelerate harder, make a different exhaust sound, gain grip, or handle repeated hard use. There is no responsible one-size-fits-all ranking. Fitment can change with model year, body style, transmission, factory options and location, so treat the ten entries below as upgrade paths—not ten universally compatible products.

The strongest current-generation examples listed by Ford are Ford Performance’s supercharger kit and cat-back exhaust for specified 2024–2026 GT configurations. Other entries are sensible categories to investigate, not individually verified product recommendations; confirm fitment, emissions compliance and compatibility for your exact car before buying.

Start with your Mustang’s configuration and your goal

Before choosing parts, identify the model year, GT trim, fastback or convertible body style, transmission, factory exhaust and brake equipment, and any existing modifications. Then choose the outcome you care about most. A street-driven car, a drag setup and a road-course car do not necessarily benefit from the same changes.

Ford’s 2026 GT specifications illustrate why configuration matters: the GT Premium Convertible is listed at 480 hp and 415 lb-ft as standard, or 486 hp and 418 lb-ft with the available active valve performance exhaust. Those figures apply to that specified model and configuration; they should not be treated as the output of every Mustang GT. Ford also lists different wheel-and-tire configurations and optional larger Brembo front brakes, so confirm what your car already has before selecting wheels, tires or brake parts.

Ten upgrade paths to consider

1. Supercharger kit for a major power increase

For a large power change, Ford Performance lists supercharger kit M-6066-M8800 for 2024–2026 5.0L Mustang GT and Dark Horse models. Ford claims 810 hp at 7,500 rpm and 615 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm for Mustangs equipped with active exhaust; Ford says cars without active exhaust make 10 hp less. These are Ford’s product specifications, not independent comparative test results.

The kit requires 91+ octane premium fuel and includes an exclusive calibration and Tomahawk delivery tool, according to Ford. Ford lists CARB EO D-231-129 for 2024–2025 and says the kit is unavailable in California for 2026. Its stated 3-year/36,000-mile warranty is conditional on installation by a Ford dealer or ASE-certified technician and registration as Ford describes. The kit is incompatible with the factory strut tower brace. Check the product listing and your car’s exact equipment before treating this as a fitment match.

SLP M31007 1999-2004 Mustang GT / Mach 1 LoudMouth Exhaust System
  • Fits any 1999-2004 Mustang GT or Mach 1
  • Includes SLP's infamous Loud Mouth resonators for virtually zero flow restriction and the meanest sound around
  • Dyno-proven to out-perform competitive resonator-type exhausts
  • Features show-quality polished resonators and 3.5" double-wall tips

2. Cat-back exhaust for a different sound and exhaust setup

Ford Performance’s M-5200-M5EB cat-back is listed for 2024–2026 GT 5.0L fastbacks and convertibles equipped with factory active exhaust. Ford describes the system’s construction, dimensions, tips and retained factory components, but does not provide a quantified power gain. Consider it for the exhaust-system change and sound you want, not on the assumption that it adds a particular amount of power.

3. Tires chosen for your use

Tires are a direct way to tailor the car’s contact with the road for street use, drag launches or track sessions. Start with the factory wheel-and-tire configuration and intended use; Ford lists more than one setup for 2026 GT models. No universal aftermarket size is established here, so verify the tire’s approved fitment, wheel-width requirements and clearance for your specific car.

  • Large 3.00-inch Polished Stainless Steel Tips

4. Wheels matched to the car and tires

Aftermarket wheels can change the available tire choices and the car’s appearance, but a wheel that fits one GT configuration may not clear another. Check the wheel maker’s application data against your year, brake package and suspension, and confirm tire sizing and clearance as a complete combination. Ford’s listed optional larger Brembo front brakes make brake clearance especially important.

5. Brake parts matched to repeated stopping demands

If you drive hard or use the car on track, investigate brake upgrades that are explicitly compatible with the factory brake package on your car. Ford lists standard and optional brake equipment for current GT configurations; no specific aftermarket kit or comparative stopping results are established here. Confirm fitment and intended-use suitability rather than choosing parts by a headline claim alone.

  • Includes All Hangers and Hardware for an Easy Installation
  • Mandrel-bent 16 Gauge Aluminized Steel Tubing
  • Dyno Tuned for Maximum Performance
  • Super 44 Series Performance Mufflers
  • Uses the Factory Hanger Locations

6. Suspension parts for a handling-focused setup

Springs, dampers and related suspension parts are a path to investigate when handling is the priority. No specific Mustang GT product or comparative handling gain is established here. Check the exact year and configuration, and consider how the proposed parts work with the rest of the car rather than assuming a part advertised for “Mustang” fits every GT.

7. Chassis and alignment changes for a more tailored setup

If you want to refine how the car behaves in corners, discuss alignment and any chassis components with a shop familiar with your intended use. Do not assume a road-course setup is also the right choice for daily driving or drag use. Confirm that any added parts are compatible with existing modifications and do not conflict with factory equipment.

8. Intake parts for a configuration-specific engine change

An intake is a candidate engine-upgrade path, but no current-generation GT intake product or measured gain is established here. Verify exact year and engine fitment, calibration requirements and emissions applicability before buying. A catalog listing for an older-year intake package is not proof that the part fits a 2024–2026 car.

9. Engine calibration for a compatible combination

A calibration should be considered only after confirming that it is meant for the exact model year, engine and installed parts, and that it is legal where the car is registered. Ford’s listed supercharger kit includes an exclusive calibration; that does not establish that the calibration is interchangeable with other setups. No general aftermarket calibration recommendation or comparative result is established here.

10. Supporting drivetrain or other performance parts

Drivetrain and other supporting components may be worth investigating when the car’s intended use or an engine change calls for them. No specific product, compatibility claim or comparative benefit for this category is established here. Ask a qualified Mustang specialist to assess your exact build before treating a part as necessary or ordering it.

  • Verified product examples: Ford provides model-year and equipment restrictions for the cited supercharger and cat-back exhaust.
  • Manufacturer claim: The supercharger output figures come from Ford Performance; they are not independent measurements.
  • Not quantified: Ford’s exhaust listing supplies no measured power gain, so do not infer one from the product description.
  • Not established for the other paths: The available evidence does not verify specific aftermarket products, installed prices or comparative gains for wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, intake or calibration options.

A practical order for deciding what to buy

  1. Define the use: Decide whether the priority is street driving, drag use or road-course handling, and identify the one result you want to change.
  2. Record the exact car: Note year, trim, body style, transmission, factory active exhaust, brake package and existing modifications.
  3. Check product fitment: Match the maker’s application details to that configuration; do not rely on a broad “Mustang GT” label.
  4. Check compliance and operating needs: Confirm emissions legality for your location, required fuel, installation conditions and any warranty terms before purchase.
  5. Check the whole combination: For wheels, tires, brakes and suspension, verify clearance and compatibility together, not as isolated parts.
  6. Compare total installed cost and evidence: Ask what installation and supporting changes are required, and separate manufacturer claims from independent test results.
