For a new motorcycle that can handle long-distance trips, start by comparing the whole setup—not just the lowest advertised price. The U.S.-market candidates below range from road-oriented standards to adventure bikes and a factory-equipped touring trim. Prices are manufacturer-listed MSRPs; some include destination, while others do not. Taxes, dealer fees, and optional touring gear can raise the out-the-door cost.
This is a shortlist, not a tested ranking of the ten cheapest or most comfortable motorcycles. Suitability depends on rider fit, route, passenger and luggage needs, and how a particular bike performs when loaded. Take a test ride and confirm the current model year, equipment, and fees with a U.S. dealer.
How to compare these motorcycles for touring
“Affordable” has no fixed cutoff, and the prices below are not perfectly like-for-like. A base MSRP may omit destination, luggage, racks, and dealer charges; where the manufacturer publishes a destination charge or a total, it is identified. Add taxes and dealer fees before comparing actual purchase costs.
Touring readiness also depends on more than engine size or adventure styling. Check seat height and reach, wind protection, passenger room, luggage and mounting hardware, payload limits, and fuel stops for your route. The available manufacturer information does not provide comparable real-world comfort, fuel economy, reliability, or loaded-performance testing across these bikes.

| Motorcycle | Published U.S. price | Touring-relevant evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | About $5,799–$6,799 by trim/model-year presentation; see Royal Enfield listing | Adventure-style candidate; one trim describes its rally seat as designed “for enhanced grip and long-distance comfort.” |
| Kawasaki Versys-X 300 | $5,799 starting MSRP | Kawasaki calls the family adventure/touring; loaded interstate suitability is not established by the cited information. |
| Royal Enfield INT 650 | 2026 trims around $6,849 | Standard-style road option; Royal Enfield estimates 63 mpg, dependent on riding style, road conditions, and fuel type. |
| Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 | $6,999–$7,499 by trim | Optional model-specific long-haul panniers offer 40 litres total capacity; required mounting rails are sold separately. |
| Honda NX500 | $7,499 total MSRP, including listed destination | Road-oriented adventure-style candidate; price is a published total rather than a base-only figure. |
| Suzuki V-Strom 650 | $9,299 base MSRP | 2025 model information describes integrated mounting points for optional accessory luggage. |
| Honda NC750X DCT | $9,499 base MSRP + $600 destination; $10,099 total | 745cc parallel twin, DCT transmission, 31.6-inch seat height, and integrated storage highlighted by Honda. |
| Suzuki V-Strom 800 | $10,249 base MSRP | Adventure-bike option; confirm current model-year availability and included equipment. |
| Suzuki V-Strom 800 Touring | $10,499 base MSRP | Separate Touring variant; confirm which luggage and equipment are included for the model year being sold. |
| Honda Transalp E-Clutch | $10,799 total MSRP on the cited page | 755cc Unicam engine, long-travel suspension, and rally-inspired bodywork; a higher-cost option for riders prioritizing power or mixed-surface ability. |
| Kawasaki Versys 650 LT ABS | $10,399 base MSRP + $685 destination; $11,084 combined | Touring trim includes hard saddlebags with KQR mounts and hand guards; also has a 5.5-gallon tank and adjustable windscreen. |
The ten entries include two V-Strom 800 variants, as well as both a smaller and larger Versys. That makes eleven names in the comparison table; the V-Strom Touring is shown separately because it is a distinct priced variant, not evidence that the list represents ten objectively cheapest bikes.
Lower-priced options: verify the highway fit
Royal Enfield Himalayan 450
Royal Enfield’s U.S. page lists trims at roughly $5,799 to $6,799, depending on the model-year and trim presentation. It is a relatively accessible adventure-style candidate for riders whose routes may include rougher roads, but the cited information does not establish sustained, loaded highway performance. On one Mana Black trim, Royal Enfield describes a rally seat as offering “enhanced grip and long-distance comfort”; treat that as manufacturer language, not a comparative comfort result. Royal Enfield says new motorcycles include a three-year unlimited-mile warranty and roadside assistance; confirm the terms for the specific bike and sale.

Kawasaki Versys-X 300
Kawasaki lists a $5,799 starting MSRP and describes the Versys-X family as adventure/touring. Its low starting price makes it worth considering for lighter-duty trips, but the available source does not establish how it performs at sustained interstate speeds with a passenger or luggage. A buyer planning frequent fast-road travel should assess that use case directly rather than treating the category label as a performance guarantee.
Royal Enfield INT 650
The 2026 U.S. listing shows trims around $6,849. Its standard styling may appeal to riders who prefer a road-focused layout, but the cited product information does not establish stock wind protection or luggage provision. Royal Enfield estimates 63 mpg and says the result depends on riding style, road conditions, and fuel type; that estimate is not a guaranteed touring figure, so do not use it alone to plan range.

Mid-priced candidates: plan for luggage and equipment
Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650
U.S. trim prices are listed from $6,999 to $7,499. Royal Enfield’s accessory catalogue describes model-specific long-haul panniers with 40 litres of combined capacity. The required mounting rails are sold separately, so include them in the touring setup cost and verify fitment for the motorcycle’s model year.
Honda NX500
Honda lists the 2026 NX500 at $7,499 total MSRP, including the destination charge shown on its page, and says that model year’s MSRP is lower. Its road-oriented adventure format makes it a candidate for a mixed-road itinerary. The available information does not establish how it handles loaded, two-up highway travel, so assess passenger comfort, luggage, and wind protection in person.

Suzuki V-Strom 650
Suzuki’s U.S. adventure lineup lists a $9,299 base MSRP. The cited 2025 model page describes integrated mounting points for optional V-Strom accessory luggage; it does not establish that the luggage comes with the base motorcycle. Check the model year and price of the actual bike, then add the compatible bags and mounting equipment to your comparison.
Honda NC750X DCT
Honda lists a $9,499 base MSRP plus $600 destination, for a published total of $10,099. The 745cc liquid-cooled parallel twin uses Honda’s DCT transmission, and the listed seat height is 31.6 inches. Honda also highlights integrated storage in its adventure lineup. DCT can suit riders who prefer not to operate a conventional clutch, while the higher total price and transmission preference may make another option a better fit. Honda calls the seat height rider-friendly in stop-and-go traffic; that is manufacturer copy, not an independent fit assessment.

Higher-priced choices: more equipment or capability
Suzuki V-Strom 800 and V-Strom 800 Touring
Suzuki lists the V-Strom 800 at a $10,249 base MSRP and the V-Strom 800 Touring at $10,499 base MSRP. The price difference alone does not establish what touring equipment is included. Confirm current availability, luggage, and other equipment on the specific Touring model-year listing before comparing either price with a bike whose destination or accessories are already included.
Honda Transalp E-Clutch
Honda’s page lists a $10,799 total MSRP and describes a 755cc Unicam engine, long-travel suspension, and rally-inspired aerodynamic bodywork. It sits toward the expensive end of this group and may make more sense for riders who value added power or mixed-surface capacity. Those are reasons to consider its format, not the result of a direct comparison test.
Kawasaki Versys 650 LT ABS
Kawasaki lists a $10,399 base MSRP and $685 destination charge, or $11,084 combined. The LT touring trim’s clearest advantage in the cited specifications is included equipment: hard saddlebags with KQR mounts and hand guards. Kawasaki also lists a 649cc parallel twin, 5.5-gallon tank, and adjustable windscreen. A tank capacity by itself does not tell you how far the bike will travel between fuel stops; no defensible comparable economy figure is provided here for calculating range.
Choose by the trip, not the lowest sticker price
- For the lowest published entry prices: the Himalayan 450 and Versys-X 300 start around $5,799, but low price does not establish comfort or suitability for sustained, loaded highway touring.
- For included touring luggage: the Versys 650 LT ABS is the clearest factory-equipped choice in this group because its listed trim includes hard saddlebags and hand guards.
- For a lower seat height and automatic-style shifting option: consider a test ride on the NC750X DCT and see whether its 31.6-inch seat and DCT suit your fit and riding preferences.
- For a road-oriented standard: the INT 650 is a candidate, but budget separately for any wind protection or luggage you need.
- For mixed-surface flexibility: compare the adventure-style choices against your actual pavement and dirt-road use; do not assume that more trail-oriented hardware improves long highway days.
Before buying, sit on the bike in your normal riding gear, check passenger space if applicable, and confirm luggage compatibility, mounting hardware, payload limits, windscreen equipment, and the full out-the-door quote. A test ride is especially important because the cited specifications cannot answer whether a given seat, reach, or wind flow will suit your body and route.
