SlashGear published its selection on December 24, 2023, for riders considering affordable mini motorcycles in 2024. Its price and performance figures are the article’s claims, not results from a standardized comparison test. Honda’s 2024 Navi brochure and Kawasaki’s release for the 2024 Z125 PRO provide manufacturer figures for those specific models.
Price alone can mislead. The list includes a moped, a scooter, and models described with market-specific availability, alongside conventional small motorcycles. Consider the intended roads, rider fit, transmission, braking equipment, licensing and registration rules, and the local supply of the bike and its parts. A claimed top speed does not establish that a bike is comfortable or legal for highway use.

Which models suit which kind of riding?
For city errands and short commutes
The Monkey and GROM are the clearest conventional motorcycle choices in the list for compact urban riding. SlashGear described the Monkey as a city runabout and said its fuel economy could exceed 150 mpg; that is the article’s claim, not an independently verified result. It described the GROM as maneuverable for errands, with a claimed top speed near 60 mph, while cautioning that sustained highway speeds and regular passenger carrying are not its strengths.

The Z125 PRO is another 125cc manual option. Kawasaki’s 2023 press release for the 2024 model confirms a four-speed transmission and a $3,649 starting MSRP. The Papio CL and SS add distinct styling choices at the article’s reported $3,299 price: the SS has a cafe-racer-like appearance, while the CL is more stripped down and has semi-knobby tires. SlashGear lists the Papio at 9.4 horsepower and 250 pounds, but notes that the model had not been on the market long enough for a long-term reliability assessment.
For twist-and-go riding
The Honda Navi is the list’s low-price automatic option. Honda’s brochure describes it as “a fusion of a twist-and-go scooter and a step-over motorcycle,” with a CVT transmission; it also has a 109cc engine and storage area. Because it combines scooter and motorcycle characteristics, check how your local jurisdiction classifies it and what license, registration and equipment rules apply.

For a moped-style option
The SSR Lazer 6 is described by SlashGear as a 50cc moped with pedals, a front disc brake, hardtail and sprung saddle. Its $1,599 article-listed MSRP is lower than the Navi’s reported prices, but it is not a like-for-like comparison with the motorcycles. Whether it can be registered for street use depends on local moped definitions and rules; verify those requirements before purchase.
For a retro standard or more distinctive design
The Kymco Spade is a 150cc, 12-horsepower retro-standard-style bike. SlashGear lists a carbureted engine, front disc and rear drum brakes, and no ABS. The article says Kymco had discontinued the model, so a used example may be the realistic route; assess its condition and confirm parts availability locally.

The Italjet Dragster is technically a scooter, not a conventional mini motorcycle. SlashGear reported 125cc and 200cc fuel-injected four-stroke versions and a UK price of £5,499. Its inclusion is more about unusual styling and steering/suspension design than a low price. The article’s mention of US plans for 2024 does not confirm current US availability.

Honda’s Dax 125 revives the CT70 idea with a fuel-injected 125cc engine, four-speed semi-automatic transmission, electric start and disc brakes. SlashGear reported a UK price of £3,799 and said the model was reserved for markets outside the United States in its inaugural year. That is a dated market note, not a current availability check.

At the other end, the Monkey’s $4,299 listing is below the article’s UK prices for the Dragster and Dax, but those are different vehicle types and currencies.
