For 2026, the best hybrid fit depends on what “performance” means to you: published power, selectable drive modes, SUV utility or simply responsive everyday driving. The models below span efficient sedans, a sport-oriented coupe and crossovers. Their EPA mileage figures are estimates, and the available specifications do not establish which is quickest or handles best; comparable independent acceleration and handling tests are not available here.

How to compare fuel economy and performance

Use the exact trim and drivetrain when comparing hybrids. A high-mpg front-wheel-drive sedan and a more powerful all-wheel-drive SUV are not direct equivalents. EPA combined mpg is useful for broad shopping comparisons, while horsepower and drive modes describe only parts of performance; neither tells you how quickly a car accelerates, how it brakes, or how it corners.

The table combines 2026 EPA estimates from the 2026 Fuel Economy Guide with manufacturer specifications. Where a particular configuration’s horsepower or MPG is not established in the cited material, it is identified rather than inferred. Always confirm the exact configuration on the window sticker.

2026 model and configuration EPA city/highway/combined mpg Published system horsepower Body style and performance context
Toyota Corolla Hybrid, trim not specified Up to 53/46/50, manufacturer-estimated; exact trim not stated on cited page Not stated in cited source Compact sedan; efficiency-forward. Toyota’s 2026 Corolla Hybrid page
Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue 51/58/54 Not stated in cited source Compact sedan; high-efficiency Blue trim. Hyundai hybrid lineup
Toyota Camry LE Hybrid 53/50/51 225 hp Midsize sedan; manufacturer comparison-page figures. Toyota Camry–Accord comparison
Honda Accord Sport Hybrid 46/41/44 204 hp Midsize sedan; manufacturer comparison-page figures. Toyota Camry–Accord comparison
Honda Prelude Hybrid, configuration as listed 46/41/44 200 total system hp Sport-oriented coupe; Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual modes. Honda specifications
Hyundai Sonata Blue Hybrid 47/56/51 Not stated in cited source Midsize sedan; Blue trim. Hyundai hybrid lineup
Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Blue configuration 38/38/38 Not stated in cited source Compact SUV; Blue configuration, not a generalized Tucson rating. 2026 Fuel Economy Guide
Kia Sportage Hybrid, AWD configuration Not stated here by exact trim; consult the configuration-specific guide entry Not stated in cited source Compact SUV; AWD hybrid configurations are listed in the guide. 2026 Fuel Economy Guide
Lexus NX 350h AWD 41/37/39 Not stated in cited source Luxury crossover. 2026 Fuel Economy Guide
Lexus RX 500h AWD 27/28/27 Not stated in cited source Performance-positioned luxury SUV; Lexus describes the RX 500h F SPORT Performance as using a turbocharged 2.4-liter hybrid powertrain. Lexus RX Hybrid

Fuel economy values are shown city/highway/combined. The guide cautions that many models have multiple engines and trims with different ratings. Hyundai likewise says mileage varies with options, conditions, driving habits and vehicle condition; EPA figures are estimates, not a promise of an individual driver’s results.

Which hybrids make the most sense for different priorities?

Compact sedans: maximize mileage in a smaller footprint

The Elantra Hybrid Blue is the mileage standout among the sedans listed, at 54 mpg combined, including a notably strong 58-mpg highway estimate. Toyota’s Corolla Hybrid is another efficiency-forward compact, with Toyota reporting up to 50 mpg combined; because that figure is presented as a maximum and the cited page does not specify the trim in the summary, verify the exact version before comparing it with a particular Elantra.

Midsize sedans: the clearest power-and-efficiency comparison

The 2026 Camry LE Hybrid and Accord Sport Hybrid provide the most directly paired power and economy figures in this group. Toyota lists the Camry at 225 hp and 51 mpg combined, versus 204 hp and 44 mpg combined for the Accord Sport Hybrid. These manufacturer comparison-page specifications show a difference on paper, not a tested acceleration or driving-quality result.

The Sonata Blue Hybrid gives up some combined economy relative to the Elantra Blue but posts a 56-mpg highway estimate. That makes its listed figures relevant to shoppers whose driving includes substantial highway use, though actual results depend on conditions and driving style.

Sport-oriented hybrid: look beyond the mpg figure

The Honda Prelude pairs 200 total system horsepower with a 44-mpg combined estimate and four selectable modes: Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual. Those modes and its sport-oriented positioning make it a distinct choice in this list, but the published specifications alone do not prove a particular 0–60-mph time, track capability or handling advantage.

Compact SUVs: keep drivetrain and trim in view

The Tucson Hybrid Blue is listed at 38 mpg combined in the guide, while Sportage Hybrid AWD entries are configuration-specific. SUV body style and all-wheel drive can change efficiency relative to sedan alternatives, so compare the exact trim and drivetrain you intend to buy rather than using one model-wide number.

Luxury crossovers: more utility and premium positioning, lower economy

The NX 350h AWD is listed at 39 mpg combined, while the RX 500h AWD is listed at 27 mpg combined. Lexus positions the RX 500h F SPORT Performance around a turbocharged 2.4-liter hybrid system, but the cited information does not establish its horsepower. The gap in EPA estimates reflects different vehicles and powertrain configurations, not a controlled comparison of performance.

What these figures can—and cannot—tell you

  • MPG is an estimate: EPA values help compare vehicles under standardized conditions, but real-world mileage varies. Use the guide’s exact configuration entry and check the vehicle’s window sticker.
  • Horsepower is not a road test: System horsepower gives a published power figure where available; it cannot substitute for measured acceleration, braking or handling.
  • Fleet averages are not model ratings: EPA’s 2025 Automotive Trends Report, published in February 2026, estimates real-world economy across manufacturers through model year 2024. Its 29.0-mpg Toyota and 31.0-mpg Honda figures are manufacturer-fleet estimates, and the 27.2-mpg figure is an all-manufacturer average—not results for any model in this list.

How to choose among these 10

  1. Set the body-style requirement first. Choose among compact or midsize sedans, the Prelude coupe, compact SUVs and luxury crossovers based on passenger, cargo and road-use needs.
  2. Compare like configurations. Match trim and drivetrain, especially when comparing an AWD SUV with a sedan or when a manufacturer quotes a maximum MPG figure.
  3. Decide what “performance” means to you. If published horsepower matters, the Camry, Accord and Prelude have figures in the cited specifications. If selectable character matters, the Prelude’s four drive modes are documented. For acceleration or handling priorities, seek comparable independent tests of the exact models and trims.
  4. Check the specific vehicle’s estimate. Use the 2026 guide and the window sticker for the car being considered; options and configuration can affect the rating.
