One in four Mercedes-Benz Cars sold worldwide in the third quarter of 2026 was an electrified vehicle, a category that includes both battery-electric cars and plug-in hybrids. Fully electric cars alone accounted for 16.8% of sales. The figures cover July through September and come from Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s sales announcement published October 7, 2026.
What does “one in four had a plug” mean?
Mercedes-Benz reported that electrified vehicles (xEV) made up 25% of global Mercedes-Benz Cars sales in Q3 2026. In this context, “electrified” combines battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids. These are company-reported figures, not an independently audited market-share analysis. The release does not state a separate plug-in-hybrid percentage.
How many fully electric Mercedes-Benz cars were sold?
Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 68,400 BEVs worldwide in Q3 2026, the company’s highest quarterly BEV total to that point. The company said that was 61% more than in Q3 2025 and 29% more than in Q2 2026. Meanwhile, overall Mercedes-Benz Cars sales fell 8% year over year to 407,200 vehicles. Where were electric sales strongest?
In Europe, Mercedes-Benz reported a quarterly record for BEV sales: up 78% year over year and 24% from Q2 2026. Nearly one in three Mercedes-Benz cars sold in Europe during the quarter was fully electric. The Europe-specific BEV share is not the same measure as the 25% global electrified share, which also includes plug-in hybrids.
Mercedes-Benz Cars sales outside China increased 1% year over year, supported by Europe and North America. Worldwide Cars sales declined 8%; the company cited challenging market conditions in China as context. Why the Cars figure is not the Group total
The 25% share uses Mercedes-Benz Cars sales as its denominator. Mercedes-Benz Group separately reported 491,700 cars and vans sold in Q3 2026; that broader Group total must not be used to calculate or describe the Cars division’s electrified share. Across Cars and Vans together, the Group said BEV sales rose 52% year over year while total sales fell 6%. Those are Group-level figures, distinct from the Cars-only results above. Mercedes-Benz said the electric GLC, CLA, GLB and GLA were sold out in Europe for the rest of 2026, with order books extending into 2027.
