ZXMoto has shown a physical, apparently working boxer-twin prototype after first presenting the project at EICMA 2025. The engine is reported to be around 1,000cc, but ZXMoto has not published a complete official specification in the available coverage. A BMW R 1300 GS rival is a possible direction—not a confirmed production motorcycle, head-to-head competitor, or model with a launch date.
What ZXMoto has shown
ZXMoto introduced its boxer-engine development project at EICMA 2025, according to InMoto’s November 2025 account. Motorcycle-industry reports say a physical prototype was displayed at CIMA in Chongqing in September 2026. Motorrad Online’s report credits the prototype images to ZXMoto/CIMA, while Visordown’s October 6, 2026 coverage describes it as a real, apparently working engine.
That is evidence of development beyond a concept appearance, not proof that a finished motorcycle is ready for production. The distinction matters: an engine prototype does not establish a retail model, its final design, or when it will be available.
What is known about the boxer engine
Reports describe the prototype as a flat-twin, or boxer, of approximately 1,000cc. That capacity is a media-reported estimate, not a confirmed published displacement. Visordown says official engine specifications were still unknown when it reported on the prototype.

Visordown also relays reports from China that the engine is liquid-cooled and uses chain-driven camshafts. Those details should be treated as reported features rather than a complete or manufacturer-confirmed specification. The rearward-facing output and longitudinal layout have prompted speculation about shaft drive, but the production motorcycle’s final-drive arrangement has not been established.
Some reports suggest output could exceed 100 bhp. That is an unverified expectation, not a ZXMoto figure, and there is no official power or torque rating to compare with BMW’s numbers.

How it compares with the BMW R 1300 GS
Calling the project a BMW R 1300 GS rival describes its potential market positioning. ZXMoto has not confirmed a production adventure motorcycle, and there are no verified ZXMoto performance or equipment figures for a direct comparison.

BMW’s figures come from its official R 1300 GS technical data page. They are a useful benchmark, but they should not be treated as evidence of how a future ZXMoto motorcycle will perform.

Will ZXMoto build it, and when could it reach the road?
InMoto reported that Zhang Xue said at EICMA 2025 that the boxer would reach the road “as soon as possible.” That conveys an intention, not a firm schedule. No confirmed launch date, price, or sales-market availability appears in the cited reports.
ZXMoto’s global website does not surface a boxer model listing or specification in the available site results. That absence does not prove the company has made no announcement elsewhere, but it means readers should look for a direct product announcement before treating the prototype as a forthcoming retail motorcycle.
