Zeekr, the electric-vehicle brand owned by China’s Geely, began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on May 10, 2024. It sold 21 million shares at $21 apiece, raising $441 million. TechCrunch called it “the buzziest EV IPO of the year,” but that phrase describes the attention around the offering, not a formal ranking of IPOs.
What happened in Zeekr’s IPO?
Zeekr’s offering was larger and priced at the top of its proposed range. TechCrunch reported that the company had earlier planned to sell 17.5 million shares at $18 to $21 each; it ultimately sold 21 million at $21, raising $441 million. TechCrunch’s May 10, 2024 report said the share price rose 38% in the first few minutes of trading. The same report described a potential valuation of about $7 billion based on early trading. That estimate was not the money raised in the IPO, nor does it establish Zeekr’s present valuation.
Why did investors pay attention?
Geely backing and delivery growth
Zeekr entered the public markets as part of Geely’s automotive portfolio, giving the young EV brand a major established parent. TechCrunch reported that Zeekr delivered 49,148 vehicles in the first four months of 2024, a sign of the rapid expansion that helped frame the IPO story. The IPO report also noted the company’s ambition to expand internationally, though it did not establish a U.S. vehicle-launch plan.
As of May 10, 2024, TechCrunch senior reporter Rebecca Bellan wrote: “Zeekr hasn’t shared its plans for launching any EVs in the U.S.” That is a dated statement, not confirmation of the company’s current U.S. plans.

Revenue did not mean profitability
The company’s scale came with substantial losses. TechCrunch, citing company filings, reported that Zeekr generated $7.3 billion in revenue in 2023, had a $1.7 billion net loss, and recorded a 15% gross margin. Those are historical 2023 figures, not a measure of its later financial performance. TechCrunch’s account of the IPO and company filings provides the figures.
What risks did the IPO raise?
The offering came amid uncertainty in China–U.S. relations and regulatory scrutiny of Chinese connected and autonomous vehicles. TechCrunch’s coverage described those conditions as risks for the company; they should be understood as potential policy and market exposure, not proof of a specific government action against Zeekr.

Zeekr’s prospectus, as quoted by TechCrunch, warned that Chinese authorities “may intervene with or influence our operations as the government deems appropriate to further regulatory, political and societal goals.” The wording is the company’s own risk disclosure, reproduced in the report, rather than an outside finding. Geely’s later reporting says the Zeekr and Lynk & Co merger was completed in the first half of 2025. In its 2026 report on 2025 results, Geely described Zeekr as an operating brand, with more than 220,000 vehicle sales in 2025 and operations spanning more than 50 countries and regions across four continents by year-end. These company-reported figures update the operating picture, but do not establish the status of Zeekr’s NYSE shares.
