Yes. LaPaglia said they were wearing seat belts during the rollover. The term “side-by-side” refers to a utility or recreational off-highway vehicle, commonly called a UTV or ROV, rather than necessarily a conventional passenger car. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s ROV safety guidance describes ROVs as vehicles with a steering wheel, bucket or bench seats, foot controls, seat belts, and a rollover protective structure.

What is a side-by-side vehicle?
A side-by-side is a seated off-highway vehicle designed with occupants next to one another. The vehicle category differs from a handlebar-steered ATV because a recreational off-highway vehicle generally has a steering wheel, foot controls, seats, seat belts, and rollover protection.
The terminology matters because early entertainment reports sometimes described the incident as a “car crash.” A more precise description, based on LaPaglia’s account, is a crash involving a side-by-side or UTV. The reviewed reports did not identify the specific vehicle.
What does the CPSC recommend for side-by-side safety?
The CPSC recommends fastening seat belts, keeping body parts inside the vehicle, wearing helmets and protective gear, avoiding paved roads, and carrying no more passengers than the vehicle has seats and seat belts. The agency also recommends hands-on training from a qualified instructor for off-highway vehicle users. These are general safety recommendations, not findings about the Bryan-LaPaglia crash.
According to the CPSC’s OHV and ATV safety information page (2024), 94,700 off-highway-vehicle-associated injuries were treated in U.S. emergency departments in 2022. The same CPSC material reports 2,448 U.S. deaths associated with OHVs from 2018 through 2020. Those figures cover off-highway vehicles broadly and are not side-by-side-only totals or statistics about this celebrity crash.

Before replacing or inspecting a UTV restraint
A replacement restraint should match the vehicle’s make, model, year, mounting points, and original restraint system. A compatible UTV seat belt can be a reasonable safety-equipment search term, but a universal-looking belt should not be installed without confirming fit and mounting requirements. Inspection or installation may require a qualified technician.

In a 2023 recall notice, the CPSC described certain vehicles with a seat-belt buckle bracket that could separate from the frame, creating an injury hazard. The recall does not establish any connection to Bryan’s vehicle.
What is still unknown about the crash?
The available reports do not establish the crash’s exact location, the vehicle’s make or model, who was driving, how fast the vehicle was traveling, the road or trail conditions, or an official cause. No reviewed source supplies a police finding or an official investigation explaining why the vehicle rolled.
LaPaglia’s social-media account provides the basis for the reported rollover, shattered vehicle, blood, seat belts, and fear of saying goodbye. Injury and ambulance details were reported by entertainment and newspaper outlets. Separating those attributed statements from confirmed investigative findings avoids turning a historical celebrity-news report into speculation.

No. The incident was reported in May 2024, and the relationship should be described historically: LaPaglia was Bryan’s girlfriend at the time or his then-girlfriend. The story is not a current accident alert, and the reviewed reports do not support present-tense relationship language.
