YMX will finance and operate the fleets, lead customer implementations, and provide on-site support; Outrider will supply its autonomous system and provide deployment, remote-monitoring, and technical support. The announcement does not identify a truck make or model, customer sites, or measured results.
What does the YMX and Outrider partnership do?
The arrangement is intended to give enterprise shippers a managed route to automate selected yard operations. The companies describe it as a way to reduce deployment complexity and capital requirements, but those are stated aims—not demonstrated savings or outcomes. The agreement is non-exclusive, and the companies say they will jointly handle site planning and deployment execution.

The announcement says YMX uses capacity-based pricing rather than hourly rates. It does not disclose a price, contract value, savings estimate, or deal-specific unit economics. YMX’s partnership announcement names food and beverage, retail, consumer packaged goods, and automotive as initial target industries, with deployments expected to start in 2026. It names no customers, sites, or fleet counts.
How do autonomous yard trucks move trailers?
Outrider describes its system as handling a sequence of yard tasks: navigating mixed-traffic areas, locating trailers, moving them, connecting or disconnecting them, and positioning them at docks or parking spaces. A robotic system connects and disconnects trailer brake lines. The system is also described as tracking trailer inventory, monitoring electric-vehicle charge status, and integrating with existing yard, warehouse, and transportation management systems. These are capabilities attributed to Outrider and the announcement, not independently verified performance results.

YMX’s broader software and operating layer is called YMX OS. In an April 2026 company description, YMX said it combines yard management, fleet operations, performance management, and data insights, with components including automated data capture, an AI-supported operational twin, EV solutions, and autonomous yard operations.
Which truck model will YMX use?
The October 2026 partnership announcement does not name the truck manufacturer, model, or configuration. Outrider’s July 2022 autonomy-kit release discussed autonomy-ready Class 8 battery-electric yard trucks and an Orange EV configuration for pilots and testing at that time. That historical reference does not establish that YMX’s deployments will use Orange EV trucks.

What is known about safety and results?
YMX CEO Matt Yearling said safety was among the reasons for selecting Outrider. In a July 2025 statement, Outrider said TÜV SÜD determined that its functional-safety approach aligns with the requirements of the TÜV SÜD Autonomous Vehicle Conformity Framework. This is an alignment determination about the approach; it should not be read as blanket certification of the entire system or a guarantee of safety.
The October 2026 announcement provides no independent outcome data for this agreement. It does not quantify productivity, safety improvements, emissions reductions, cost savings, deployment scale, or uptime. YMX also cites an average U.S. on-highway diesel price of $6.38 per gallon for the week of September 28, 2026, as electrification context; that figure is attributed to YMX’s announcement, which does not identify the underlying publisher or explain its calculation.

Will this replace yard drivers?
The stated scope is automating selected repetitive trailer-spotting tasks, not eliminating every yard role. The partnership announcement gives no staffing plan, job-impact estimate, or evidence that autonomous operation will replace yard drivers. It describes YMX as financing and operating the fleets and supplying on-site support, while Outrider provides remote monitoring and technical support.
