BYD says its Yangwang U9 Track Edition reached 472.41 km/h (293.54 mph) at Germany’s ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track on August 8, 2025. That was the Track Edition’s claimed EV top-speed record—not the latest result: BYD later said the U9 Xtreme reached 496.22 km/h at the same facility on September 14, 2025.
How fast did the Yangwang U9 Track Edition go?
BYD announced the Track Edition’s 472.41 km/h (about 293.54 mph) run on August 26, 2025, reporting that it took place on August 8 at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany. The speed and record status are BYD’s claims; the sources cited here do not establish independent certification of the Papenburg result. BYD’s announcement

The headline’s “3,000-HP” is rounded wording, not a precise horsepower specification. BYD describes the Track Edition’s combined output as exceeding 3,000 PS. PS and mechanical horsepower are different units, so the figure should not be treated as exactly 3,000 hp.

Why the Track Edition’s result is no longer the latest
On September 14, 2025, BYD said the U9 Xtreme reached 496.22 km/h at Papenburg. BYD called it the world’s fastest production car and said it surpassed the earlier EV benchmark. Keep the two claims separate: 472.41 km/h belongs to the U9 Track Edition run on August 8; 496.22 km/h belongs to the later U9 Xtreme run on September 14. BYD’s U9 Xtreme announcement

- Brand new box. Detailed exterior. Real rubber tires. True-to-scale detail. Die-cast metal body. Officially licensed product. Does not have any openings. Comes in a plastic display showcase. Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Dimensions approximately L-2.625 inches long.
BYD says the Xtreme was initially known as the U9 Track/Special Edition before being confirmed in production guise as the U9 Xtreme (U9X). It describes a limited series of no more than 30 customer vehicles. That stated production cap and the company’s “fastest production car” description are manufacturer claims, not independent confirmation of the earlier Track Edition result.
What BYD says is different about the Track Edition
BYD says the Track Edition retains the U9’s e⁴ platform and DiSus-X body-control architecture, while using a mass-produced 1200V vehicle platform and thermal management optimized for extreme conditions. The company reports four motors rated at up to 30,000 rpm, peak power of 555 kW per motor, combined output above 3,000 PS and a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne. These are manufacturer-reported specifications. BYD’s Track Edition announcement

BYD also says the four-motor system independently adjusts torque at each wheel more than 100 times per second. It reports that the Track Edition keeps the standard U9 aerodynamic design, with an optional carbon-fiber front splitter already in mass production.

For the record attempt, BYD says it worked with Giti Tire on a semi-slick tyre with bespoke tread and compound, alongside treatment at the wheel-rim interface intended to limit slippage. This describes development reported by BYD; it does not establish that the custom tyre is available as a consumer product.

The U9 Xtreme’s Nürburgring lap is a separate result
BYD says the U9 Xtreme completed a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap in 6:59.157 on August 22, 2025, with Moritz Kranz driving. The company said the lap was more than five seconds faster than the prior Electric Super Sports Cars class result and the first in that class below seven minutes. This is a circuit lap result, not the September Papenburg top-speed run. BYD’s Nürburgring announcement
The Nürburgring describes official record-lap procedures that include calibrated timing, a notary, vehicle inspection by TÜV Rheinland for standard conformity, and defined track length and start/finish lines. Those procedures provide context for circuit records; they do not independently verify the Papenburg top-speed claims. Nürburgring record information
