Yamaha’s October 9, 2024 announcement confirmed the 2025 YZF-R9 as a CP3-powered supersport with a dedicated aluminum chassis, substantial electronic rider aids and street-oriented equipment. The original teaser’s date and specific content are not established here, so claims about what appeared in its frames should not be treated as verified. The details below come from Yamaha’s launch announcement and official model pages.
What Yamaha confirmed about the R9
Yamaha introduced the 2025 YZF-R9 as a supersport intended to bridge track capability and street accessibility. That is Yamaha’s stated positioning, not a conclusion from an independent ride test. The company highlighted broad power delivery, light handling, street-friendly ergonomics and rider aids as parts of that package.
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA described the engine as an 890cc CP3 inline triple in its October 9, 2024 announcement. Yamaha’s Japanese global release the following day gives the displacement as 888 cm³. These are rounded and exact metric descriptions of the same engine, not conflicting capacities. Engine and transmission
The US specification page lists a DOHC, liquid-cooled inline three-cylinder engine with four valves per cylinder, a 78.0 mm bore and 62.1 mm stroke, and 11.5:1 compression. It also specifies YCC-T fuel injection, a six-speed transmission and an assist-and-slipper clutch. Yamaha’s launch announcement says the R9 receives a unique ECU tune and optimized gear ratio for the model. See Yamaha’s US specifications.

Chassis, suspension and brakes
Yamaha says the R9 uses a gravity-cast Deltabox aluminum frame and described it at launch as the lightest aluminum frame offered on a Yamaha supersport. That superlative is the manufacturer’s claim; it is not an independently verified comparison here.
The US specification page lists a 43 mm KYB inverted fork and KYB rear shock, both adjustable for preload, compression and rebound. Braking hardware comprises dual 320 mm front discs and a 220 mm rear disc, with ABS. Yamaha’s launch release identifies Brembo Stylema front calipers and a Brembo radial master cylinder. Rider aids and electronics
Yamaha’s US model page describes a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) supporting rider aids, including nine-mode traction control, three-mode slide control, three-mode lift control and brake control. The page also lists cruise control and the Yamaha Ride Control suite. These names and mode counts are Yamaha’s specifications, rather than independently assessed performance claims. Design and street equipment
Yamaha highlights an M-shaped front duct, angled LED position lights, a tail wing and functional, MotoGP-inspired front winglets. The US feature information lists a five-inch TFT display and smartphone connectivity. Yamaha makes aerodynamic and weight-related superlatives in its own materials; those descriptions should be understood as manufacturer claims, not as the result of a comparative test.

US dimensions and estimated fuel economy
Yamaha Motorsports’ US specification page lists the following for the 2025 model. The 48 mpg figure is explicitly an estimate; it is not a guaranteed real-world result.

US price and launch timing
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA announced a $12,499 MSRP and dealer arrival beginning in March 2025 when it introduced the model on October 9, 2024. The US model page, accessed October 8, 2026, still displayed a $12,499 starting MSRP and a separate $625 destination charge. Accessories Yamaha lists
Yamaha’s US model page lists R9-related accessories including frame sliders and a tank pad, along with a GYTR R-Series rear racing stand. It also lists a smoked windscreen, radiator guard, heated grips and rear seat cowl. Confirm the year and market fitment and current availability with Yamaha or a dealer before ordering; a listing does not guarantee stock.
