Yamaha’s YE-01 is an electric motocross racing concept developed with French manufacturer Electric Motion SAS—not a production bike announced for sale. Yamaha says the project is aimed at eventual participation in the MXEP electric motocross series. Its latest update also planned a display and exhibition run at the 2026 Motocross of Nations in France; the announcement does not confirm that the run took place.
What is the Yamaha YE-01?
The YE-01 is a developing electric motocross racing concept. Yamaha first announced it for display at EICMA 2025, describing a goal of entering the new MXEP series in 2026. In a September 28, 2026 update, Yamaha used more cautious wording: MXEP is scheduled to launch “in the near future,” and the YE-01 project is aimed at eventual participation. That is an aim, not confirmation of an entry, race, or finalized championship schedule.
The project is a collaboration between Yamaha and Electric Motion SAS, a French manufacturer. Yamaha described the concept’s intended purpose as exploring electric motocross; it has not announced a production model, customer deliveries, a retail price, or a launch date. Yamaha’s November 2025 announcement introduced the concept and its initial MXEP goal, while the September 2026 update provides the latest status in the cited announcements.
What features has Yamaha disclosed?
Yamaha’s latest release identifies three central features: a newly designed frame drawing on YZ450F chassis technology, a YE-01-specific power unit jointly developed with Electric Motion, and a mechanical clutch. Yamaha says the clutch lets the rider control drive force through the lever.

- Electric power unit: The unit is being developed specifically for the YE-01 by Yamaha and Electric Motion.
- Clutch: The concept uses a mechanical clutch for rider control of drive force. Yamaha Europe’s November 2025 description specifies a hydraulic clutch.
Yamaha Europe’s earlier description also identifies liquid cooling, battery placement intended to optimize the center of gravity, power modes, and rider aids. It characterized the powertrain as capable of MXGP levels of power, but supplied no output figure or independent test result. These are manufacturer descriptions of a developing concept, not published performance measurements. Yamaha Motor Europe’s November 2025 overview contains those additional technical details.
What are the YE-01’s specifications?
Yamaha has not published the key numerical specifications in the cited announcements. There is no announced motor output, battery capacity, range, charging time, or mass. “MXGP levels of power” is a qualitative claim, not a substitute for a measured power rating, so a numerical comparison with other motocross bikes is not supported by these releases.

When will the YE-01 race?
Yamaha’s latest cited update does not confirm a YE-01 race entry. The initial 2025 announcement named 2026 as a goal for MXEP participation; by September 2026, Yamaha said the series was scheduled to launch in the near future and framed the project as preparation for eventual participation.
Yamaha also announced plans to display the concept and conduct an exhibition run at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations 2026 in Ernée, France, from October 2. The update was issued while that event window was underway, but it confirms the plan—not that the run had already happened. Yamaha said, “The exhibition run will provide an opportunity to see the appeal of the vehicle and the potential of electric motocross.”

Can you buy the Yamaha YE-01?
No consumer purchase path is established in the cited announcements. Yamaha has not announced retail availability, dealer orders, pricing, or customer delivery plans. The YE-01 should therefore be treated as a racing concept under development, not a purchasable electric motocross motorcycle.
