On the published Indian-market specifications, the Yamaha YZF-R2 is the stronger paper choice for lower mass, a lower seat and higher peak power; the KTM RC 200 has slightly higher peak torque, a larger fuel tank and larger listed tyre, brake-disc and fork dimensions. Neither spec sheet establishes which bike is faster, more comfortable or better on a circuit. Choose based on rider fit, exact-variant equipment, local pricing and a same-day test ride—not component sizes alone.
Yamaha R2 vs KTM RC 200: specifications at a glance
The figures below compare Indian-market versions. Yamaha announced the YZF-R2 as a 2027 model on September 4, 2026, with sales planned to reach Indian dealerships from mid-September. As a recent launch, its local stock should be confirmed with a dealer. Yamaha’s launch announcement describes three versions aimed at uses ranging from daily riding to track days.

Yamaha’s India product page and KTM’s RC 200 specifications are the primary sources for their respective published specifications. Autocar India’s August 28, 2026 comparison supplies the side-by-side figures and R2 trim-specific mass comparison.
Which bike has the performance advantage?
Yamaha lists 1.5 PS more peak power, while KTM lists 0.1 Nm more peak torque. Those figures are measured at the same stated engine speeds—10,000 rpm for power and 8,000 rpm for torque—but they do not tell you how either engine responds across the rev range, how the bikes accelerate in real conditions or which records a quicker lap.

The R2 is listed 10–11kg lighter, depending on trim. That may matter to a buyer comparing published mass, but it is not a controlled test of acceleration, braking or handling. No comparable mileage, top-speed, acceleration, stopping-distance or lap-time result is established by the cited sources.
Which is easier to live with on Indian roads?
Rider fit and clearance
The R2’s listed seat is 25mm lower, and its ground clearance is 14mm higher. Those dimensions may make it the more promising starting point for riders concerned about reach to the ground or clearance over uneven roads. Seat shape, inseam, load and suspension setup affect the actual experience, so sit on both bikes and assess them with your usual riding posture.

Fuel capacity and traffic use
The RC 200’s nominal tank is 1.7L larger. Tank volume alone cannot establish which bike needs fewer fuel stops: comparable consumption data is not provided. Likewise, the published specifications do not settle heat in traffic, low-speed behavior or everyday comfort. Evaluate those directly on a test ride that reflects your routes.
Which is better equipped for track days?
KTM lists wider tyres, larger brake-disc diameters and a larger-diameter front fork. These are hardware differences, not proof of superior grip, braking or lap times. Tyre model and condition, brake feel, suspension settings, rider fit and setup all matter; the cited sources do not provide a controlled circuit comparison.

Yamaha’s manufacturer positioning for the R2 is “Concentrated Supersport Riding,” but that is a product concept, not independent evidence of track performance. If track use is a priority, ask for a test ride and check how the bike fits your body and whether its controls and setup suit your intended use.
What equipment does each version include?
Yamaha’s official India listing includes TFT instrumentation, Y-Connect and three riding modes. Yamaha’s corporate release also describes YCC-T electronic throttle, Yamaha Ride Control, traction control and a third-generation quickshifter. Autocar’s August 28 comparison reports that the modes and TFT are standard across R2 trims, the middle variant adds a quickshifter, and the M trim adds equipment including traction control, keyless operation, adjustable footpegs and levers, and an assist-and-slipper clutch. Check the exact trim’s current dealer specification before buying; the accessible official shop listing does not expose all trim-level fitment details.

There is a display discrepancy for the RC 200: Autocar’s comparison calls it a 5-inch TFT, while KTM India’s current specification page lists an LCD dash. Treat the current official-market listing as provisional and confirm the display on the model-year bike or in its dealer brochure. Autocar also reports smartphone-linked call alerts, music control and navigation for both bikes; verify those functions against current product documentation rather than assuming they apply to every version.

Prices are location- and date-sensitive, and the figures below are not synchronized quotes. KTM India lists an ex-showroom Delhi starting price of ₹2,14,721 on its model page. Autocar India’s August 28, 2026 comparison lists the R2 at ₹2.30 lakh (base), ₹2.39 lakh (middle) and ₹2.53 lakh (top), and the RC 200 at ₹2.32 lakh. These dated figures do not establish which bike is cheaper for every buyer.

Yamaha says on-road pricing varies with state taxes, selected insurance and optional items. Request same-date quotes from local dealers for the exact R2 trim and RC 200, and compare both on the same ex-showroom or on-road basis. Yamaha’s e-shop notes that booking stock can depend on state and city and directs customers to an authorized dealer when online stock is unavailable. Confirm inventory and test-ride access before making a trip.
How to choose between the Yamaha R2 and KTM RC 200
- Start with fit: Sit on both, check reach to the ground and controls, and assess the riding position you would actually use.
- Match the bike to your use: For frequent track days, evaluate the tyres, brakes, suspension settings and rider fit on the bike itself; larger listed dimensions do not guarantee a better result.
- Compare exact equipment: Check the R2 trim and the current RC 200 model-year documentation for the features you want, especially the display and electronics.
- Price the real purchase: Compare same-date local quotes on the same basis, then confirm stock, test rides and access to parts and service with nearby authorized dealers.
