PEOPLE reported that the video appeared to show a silver Honda move ahead of her vehicle and reverse into its front. Natasha alleged the crash was staged to support an insurance-fraud claim, but the available reporting did not establish that motive as fact. NYPD said on October 22 that its investigation was still ongoing.
What the dash-cam video reportedly showed
According to PEOPLE’s description of the footage, Natasha was driving eastbound toward the Southern State Parkway when a silver Honda moved in front of her vehicle and then backed into its front. Natasha could be heard reacting during a phone call recorded in the video.

PEOPLE also described four people leaving the Honda and appearing shaken, with some apparently recording the damage. The report said the footage appeared to show passengers covering the Honda’s rear window with a tarp while the driver moved around the vehicle and later appeared injured. Those are descriptions of what the video seemed to show, not official findings about what happened or why.

Why Natasha called it a possible setup
Natasha told PEOPLE that the Honda’s occupants exchanged information, seemed eager to leave and then departed. After reviewing the recording, she said she believed the collision had been arranged to make it look as though she had hit the Honda.

“I watched the video multiple times and that’s when it hit me that, oh my God, this is probably a setup,” she told WPIX. In a TikTok post, she wrote: “I did not hit their car and because of that they reversed into my car for collision and acted as if they were injured while coming out of their vehicle.”
These statements express Natasha’s interpretation and allegation. The reporting does not identify the Honda’s occupants, establish their intentions or conclude that insurance fraud occurred.

Reported damage and insurance details
PEOPLE reported Natasha’s estimate of approximately $8,000 in damage to her vehicle. She said her insurance would cover it. The account did not include repair invoices, policy documents or an independent assessment confirming either the amount or the coverage.
What police said—and what remains unresolved
Natasha said she reported the collision and was told officers would not respond if nobody was injured and the drivers had exchanged information. That is her account of the interaction, not an independently documented statement of NYPD policy.

In an October 22, 2024 email to PEOPLE, an NYPD spokesperson said the case “remains ongoing by the NYPD Criminal Enterprise Investigation Unit’s Fraudulent Collision Investigation Squad.” The available report does not document an arrest, charge, finding of fraud or later disposition.

PEOPLE reported that Natasha’s TikTok post had reached 66 million views as of Tuesday, October 22, 2024. That was the view count reported on that date, not a current total and not evidence that the allegation was verified.

What the footage can—and cannot—establish
- It can show actions captured by the camera: PEOPLE described the Honda’s movement, the apparent reactions at the scene and other visible conduct.
- It cannot by itself establish intent: A recording may help investigators assess vehicle positions and timing, but it does not prove why someone acted.
- It does not replace an investigation: Police, insurers and courts may consider the video alongside statements, vehicle damage, scene evidence and other records.

If you are involved in a suspected staged collision
This incident does not establish a universal procedure, but drivers who believe a crash may have been deliberately arranged should preserve the original camera file, photograph vehicles and the scene when safe, exchange required information, notify their insurer promptly and provide police or investigators with the unedited recording. Avoid publicly identifying or accusing other drivers before authorities or insurers have assessed the evidence.
