The motorcycle was presented at Austria’s Newchurch Summit in late June 2026, according to the builder.
What is the Woidwerk BMW R 12 G/S custom?
Woidwerk describes the bike as a collaboration with BMW Motorrad Schmidt Salzburg and BMW Motorrad Austria. The project began after BMW presented the production R 12 G/S; Woidwerk says it configured and ordered the base motorcycle after discussions with the dealer and BMW Motorrad Austria. The finished build appeared at the BMW Motorrad stand at the Newchurch Summit in Austria at the end of June 2026, according to Woidwerk’s project page.

The builder’s stated direction is “independent, minimalist, road-oriented, and a touch of end times.” That is Woidwerk’s description of its own design, not an independent review. The “Sumo” label should also be read as shorthand for the roadward styling and front-wheel conversion, rather than evidence that the bike has become a dedicated supermoto.
What changed from the production R 12 G/S?
The most visible mechanical change is at the front wheel. BMW’s production R 12 G/S has a standard 21-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel; Woidwerk replaced the front with a 19-inch wheel and says it retained the rear wheel. The builder selected a Dunlop Mutant front tire, which it characterizes as road-capable while retaining some off-road performance. Neither a road test nor measured handling or braking results for this conversion are provided.

BMW’s March 27, 2025 announcement calls the production motorcycle a classic enduro for purist off-road enjoyment. Woidwerk’s wheel choice and stated road focus mark a different emphasis, but the available information does not establish how the conversion changes cornering, braking, ground clearance or off-road ability.
Bodywork, lighting and cockpit
Woidwerk removed plastic bodywork and fabricated a steel front fender and steel rear subframe. It designed new 3D-printed side panels and lowered the mounting position of the stock LED headlight. A custom bracket carries the instrument unit and a DENALI auxiliary light; the specific DENALI model is not identified.

Seat, paint and listed components
The custom seat is upholstered in Alcantara and glossy synthetic leather, and STILBRUCH-LACK applied the paint scheme. Woidwerk also lists Wunderlich engine and cylinder protection and footrests, an LSL Enduro handlebar, Highsider mirrors, Kellermann ATTO lighting and a custom Hattech silencer.

Woidwerk specifically marks the Arrow header as “nicht im öffentlichen Straßenverkehr zulässig,” meaning it is not permitted for public-road use. That warning applies to the header. The project page does not establish whether the complete custom motorcycle—or every other modification—has road approval, so the header warning should not be generalized into a claim about the legal status of the entire build.

How does the custom compare with the stock R 12 G/S?
The underlying production bike is an air/oil-cooled 1,170 cc boxer. BMW Motorrad Deutschland lists output of 80 kW (109 PS) at 7,000 rpm and peak torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Its current technical data page also gives 210 mm of front and 200 mm of rear suspension travel, a 210 km/h top speed, and WMTC fuel consumption of 5.1 L/100 km with CO₂ emissions of 119 g/km. These are BMW’s manufacturer figures for the production motorcycle, not measurements of Woidwerk’s custom.
BMW’s figures and standard wheel sizes are listed on its R 12 G/S technical data page; the model’s launch description is in the March 27, 2025 BMW press release. The published specifications describe the production motorcycle; they do not show whether Woidwerk changed engine output or other performance characteristics.

Is the Woidwerk BMW R 12 G/S for sale?
Woidwerk lists the custom motorcycle for sale by inquiry, with price and availability on request. The builder publishes neither a total build price nor a component-by-component budget on its project page. Prospective buyers should confirm current availability, price, road-approval status and the exact parts fitted directly with the seller.
