Not automatically. In a May 8, 2025 briefing, Toyota said it would not make a knee-jerk price increase in response to short-term tariffs. It also said pricing would take competition and actual demand into account. That was a description of its approach—not a promise that every U.S. Toyota price would stay unchanged.
What Toyota said about tariff-related price increases
At Toyota’s May 8, 2025 financial-results briefing, Executive Vice President Yoichi Miyazaki said, “In any case, we will not simply raise prices as a knee-jerk reaction to short-term tariffs.” He also said, “We believe that prices are determined by customers.” Toyota’s stated approach was to consider competition and actual demand when setting prices, rather than pass through short-term tariff costs automatically. Toyota President Koji Sato said tariffs already in effect had been included in that fiscal-year forecast and described adapting operations as circumstances developed. He said the company would keep its focus rather than panic. Those remarks described Toyota’s response at the time; they were not a guarantee about future U.S. MSRPs, incentives or dealer prices.
How the statements developed
- March 31, 2025: Toyota told Reuters it would maintain current operations for the time being, monitor U.S. tariff developments and work to reduce fixed costs. Reuters reported that Toyota had not expressed an intention then to raise U.S. vehicle prices. Reuters’ March 31 report.

- May 8, 2026: The Associated Press reported that Toyota said tariff policies had reduced annual operating income by about 1.4 trillion yen ($9 billion). AP also reported a 19% year-on-year profit decline for the fiscal year ending March 2026. These are company-wide financial figures, not a per-car tariff cost or an announcement of U.S. retail prices. What the 2026 financial figures do—and do not—tell buyers
The reported 1.4 trillion yen ($9 billion) tariff impact concerns Toyota’s annual operating income across the company. It does not show how much extra cost applied to a particular U.S. model, how Toyota allocated those costs, or whether a specific vehicle’s price changed. Likewise, the reported 19% profit decline is a company-wide year-on-year result for the fiscal year ending March 2026, not a measure of retail-price movement.

Why the $1,800 Camry figure is not a current estimate
Toyota USA cited an estimated $1,800 added cost for a Kentucky-built Camry under a proposed 25% tariff in a June 27, 2018 statement. That figure belongs to a historical proposal and its circumstances; it should not be used to calculate a price increase under later tariff policies. What to check when buying a Toyota
A company-level pricing posture cannot tell you what a dealer will charge for a particular vehicle. For a useful comparison, separate the published price and incentives from the dealer’s actual written offer:

- Find the current MSRP and manufacturer incentives for the exact model, model year, trim and options you want.
- Ask each dealer for a written out-the-door quote. Check the vehicle price, taxes, registration, documentation and other fees, plus any dealer-installed products or add-ons.
- Compare offers for vehicles configured as closely as possible, and ask whether each incentive is included in the quoted total and what conditions apply.
The March and May 2025 statements explain how Toyota said it would approach prices then. They do not establish current model-level prices or the amount any buyer will pay; those depend on the vehicle and the dealer’s current written offer.
