In a report published by PerthNow on 25 November 2025, Hopkins said Schumacher was unlikely to be seen in public again. He qualified his perspective: “Only a few people are in his inner circle, and I’m not one of them.” His comment is a prediction from someone who describes himself as outside that circle, not a disclosure from Schumacher’s family.

Nothing in Hopkins’s statement confirms that Schumacher will never appear publicly, or that the family has made a decision ruling out an appearance. The report does not establish why Hopkins thinks one is unlikely.
What is publicly known about Schumacher’s health?
Schumacher suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident in December 2013. He was placed in an induced coma and returned home in September 2014. The BBC reported that his family has kept his medical condition private since then. The cited public statements do not establish his current diagnosis, abilities, care arrangements, or prognosis.

Jean Todt, Schumacher’s friend and former Ferrari team principal, has said that he sees Schumacher regularly. Todt also said: “The family has decided not to answer the question [about Schumacher’s health], a choice that I respect.” This describes Todt’s contact with Schumacher and his respect for the family’s privacy; it is not a medical update.

Schumacher’s family has not issued a public medical report. As reported by The Independent, family lawyer Felix Damm explained that publishing a “final report” could prompt ongoing demands for updates and leave the family unable to control when media interest ends. Damm said: “It was always about protecting private things.” Corinna Schumacher expressed the family’s approach in the 2021 documentary Schumacher: “‘Private is private’, as he always said.”

How to assess new claims about Schumacher
- Check who is speaking. A statement from the family would be different from a friend’s prediction or a reporter’s inference. Hopkins says he is not in Schumacher’s inner circle.
- Separate contact from medical knowledge. Todt’s statement that he sees Schumacher does not reveal a diagnosis or prognosis.
- Verify purported quotations. In April 2023, Die Aktuelle presented AI-generated statements as an interview with Schumacher. The BBC reported that the family planned legal action, and a later BBC report said the family received €200,000 in compensation from publisher Funke. That episode is a reason not to treat unverified purported quotes as genuine.
