What do the latest official updates say?
United States
Lexus describes the 2026 GX as carrying over from the prior model year. Its U.S. 2027 announcement, issued September 16, 2026, covers minor updates but does not add a GX hybrid. The brand’s U.S. “What’s New for 2026” electrified lineup page lists hybrid and plug-in hybrid models elsewhere in the range, but not a GX hybrid. What is known about the current GX 550?
For context—not as a forecast of hybrid performance—the 2024 GX launch release specified a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, with maximum towing capacity of up to 8,000 pounds. Lexus’s current U.S. 2026 GX product page describes the GX 550 with 349 horsepower and full-time four-wheel drive, and lists maximum towing capacity of 9,063 pounds. These towing figures come from different sources and model-year contexts; do not treat them as interchangeable or apply either to a hypothetical hybrid. What remains unknown about a GX hybrid?
No official source cited here establishes a hybrid GX’s engine, system output, fuel economy, towing rating, price, reveal or launch date, or U.S. availability. A name such as “GX 550h” is not confirmed by these sources. Do not infer specifications from another Lexus or Toyota hybrid, or assume that gasoline GX accessories will fit a future hybrid.

Should you wait for a hybrid GX or buy a GX 550?
That depends on whether you are willing to wait without a confirmed date or specifications.
