The Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwings make sense for buyers who want rear-wheel-drive performance, focused chassis tuning and—especially in the CT5—a manual-transmission option, without automatically stepping into the highest listed prices in their classes. That is a case for their particular character, not proof that they outperform every German alternative. The CT4 is the smaller, less expensive entry; the CT5 brings a supercharged V8 and a standard six-speed manual at a much higher starting price.
What the Blackwings offer
Both cars pair substantial power with rear-wheel drive and a performance-oriented chassis. Their appeal is not simply a horsepower figure: it is the combination of a driver-focused layout, serious straight-line capability and a choice of transmission in a market where buyers may also be considering luxury and everyday comfort.
Cadillac’s current U.S. listings give the two cars markedly different roles. The CT4-V Blackwing is the smaller sedan and the lower-price way into the pair. The CT5-V Blackwing is a larger, more powerful proposition whose standard manual is a defining part of its pitch.
CT4-V Blackwing: the smaller, lower-entry-price choice
For the 2026 model, Cadillac lists a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 472 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. Cadillac estimates 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds. These are manufacturer-published specifications and an estimate, not an independent instrumented test. Cadillac’s V-Series lineup displays a U.S. starting price of $62,195.

Car and Driver describes the CT4’s steering as communicative and says its adaptive dampers balance ride comfort with handling. Its review also identifies the car’s tight rear-seat space and dated-feeling interior furnishings as compromises. Those traits point toward a buyer who prioritizes driving involvement and can live with less room for rear passengers and less contemporary cabin presentation.
Performance figures need their source and configuration attached. Cadillac’s 3.9-second 0–60 figure is an estimate for the current listing; Car and Driver reports a 4.0-second result from its manual CT4 test. The two numbers are not directly interchangeable because one is a manufacturer estimate and the other a publication test of a specified transmission configuration.

CT5-V Blackwing: the V8 and standard manual
The 2026 CT5-V Blackwing uses a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 rated by Cadillac at 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque. Cadillac lists a six-speed manual as standard and a 10-speed automatic as available. Its displayed U.S. starting price is $98,900, and Cadillac labels availability limited. The price is a listed “from” figure, not an out-the-door quote; the page also displays higher prices for configured builds. Car and Driver characterizes the CT5 as a strong blend of performance and ride comfort. Its 2026 10Best feature, published December 16, 2025, reports 3.5 seconds to 60 mph and a quarter-mile time of 11.4–11.5 seconds. Those are publication test results; do not read them as Cadillac’s guarantee for every car or configuration. In that feature, Deputy Editor Joe Lorio calls the car’s combination “power, purity, and purpose,” referring to its V8, standard manual and rear-wheel drive. The CT5’s value argument is therefore not that its price is low in absolute terms. Rather, it offers a rare combination for a high-output modern sedan: a supercharged V8, rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission included as standard equipment. Buyers who do not want to shift for themselves can choose the available automatic.

What “over German rivals” can—and cannot—mean
Car and Driver names the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63/C43 as CT4 alternatives, and the BMW M5 and Audi RS7 as CT5 alternatives. Those names establish the relevant shopping context, but current manufacturer specifications, equipment and prices for the German models are not established here. It would therefore be misleading to declare a current horsepower, acceleration, price, transmission or warranty win for Cadillac based on this information alone.
A fair comparison requires matching model year and equipment, then checking the details that can change the ownership decision:

- Drivetrain and transmission availability, including whether a manual is offered and whether it is standard or optional.
- Acceleration and track performance measured under comparable conditions, with transmission and test configuration identified.
- Steering feel, chassis response and ride comfort, assessed as driving evaluations rather than assumed from output figures.
- Rear-seat and cargo practicality, interior materials and technology.
- Warranty coverage and ownership costs.
On the evidence available, the defensible argument is narrower and more useful: the Blackwings offer a distinctly rear-drive, performance-focused alternative, and the CT5’s standard manual is a concrete differentiator for shoppers who want one. Whether either is the better buy against a particular BMW, Mercedes-AMG or Audi depends on a current, like-for-like comparison and on what the buyer values most.
Which Blackwing makes more sense for you?
Choose the CT4-V Blackwing if…
- You want the smaller sedan and lower displayed starting price of the two.
- Steering communication and an adaptive-damper balance of handling and ride matter more than generous rear-seat room.
- You are comfortable judging the cabin on its driving purpose rather than expecting the freshest-feeling interior in the segment.
Choose the CT5-V Blackwing if…
- You want the larger car’s supercharged V8 output and the option of a standard six-speed manual.
- You are prepared for a substantially higher listed starting price and limited availability.
- You value its performance-and-comfort blend, while accepting that Car and Driver considers the interior down-market compared with some rivals.
For either car, get a current written quote and check the exact configuration before comparing it with a German alternative. The relevant decision is not just which badge or power figure looks strongest; it is whether the Blackwing’s driving character, transmission choices, space and cabin trade-offs suit your use.
