The 2025 Toyota Camry’s appeal is easy to understand: it is a hybrid-only midsize sedan with available all-wheel drive, a manufacturer-estimated rating of up to 51 mpg combined, and a starting MSRP of $28,700. Toyota also reported 316,115 Camry Hybrid sales in the U.S. in 2025, up 54.1% from 2024. Those figures show strong sales and a compelling efficiency-and-price proposition; they do not, by themselves, prove that the Camry is outperforming SUVs or explain why individual buyers choose it.
What Toyota’s sales figures say—and what they don’t
Toyota Motor North America reported 316,115 Camry Hybrid sales in the United States in calendar year 2025, compared with 205,156 in 2024, a 54.1% increase. Toyota described the Camry as one of its top sellers in its January 5, 2026 year-end sales release. These are company-reported sales figures, not independently audited market-share data.
The numbers establish that the Camry remained a strong seller and that its reported volume rose year over year. They do not show whether the Camry outsold SUVs, establish that SUVs outsell the Camry specifically, or identify the reasons buyers selected it. Toyota executive Andrew Gilleland characterized the success of the Camry and Corolla as evidence that customers value accessible options; that is the company’s interpretation, not independent proof of buyer motivations.
Why the 2025 Camry has a distinctive value proposition
Hybrid power is standard across the U.S. lineup
The redesigned U.S.-market 2025 Camry is hybrid-only. Toyota lists front-wheel drive and available electronic on-demand all-wheel drive, with up to 232 net combined horsepower. That gives shoppers who want a conventional sedan a choice that pairs hybrid power with optional AWD, rather than requiring them to move to an SUV to get those features.

How to read the Camry’s safety ratings
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates 2025–26 Camrys. Its page gives Good ratings in several frontal and side crash evaluations, while rating the headlights Acceptable. The results are category-specific, so the Good crash-test ratings should not be generalized to every part of the vehicle’s safety performance.
