Squirters Car Wash owner Mark Stanich said the name began with a suggestion about water pistols and the word “squirt”—not with the sexual connotation that later drew attention. The Mandurah site, the business’s second in Western Australia, opened in October 2024; reactions described in a local report ranged from laughter and positive attention to offence.
How Squirters got its name
In a Mandurah Times report published by PerthNow on 23 October 2024, owner Mark Stanich explained that the name came out of brainstorming. “Lots of names were thrown around and someone mentioned water pistols ‘squirt’ and it kind of went from there,” he said.
Stanich said the sexual connotation had not occurred to them while choosing the name: “(We) didn’t think about the connotations at the time of creating the name, it was all innocent.” That is the owner’s account of the decision; the report does not independently verify how the name was selected.
Why the name drew attention
“Squirters” can carry a pornographic or sexual meaning, which made the name a source of jokes and attention when the Mandurah business opened. Stanich told the report that most of the attention was positive, though some people were offended.

The report characterized a social-media post about the opening as receiving “hundreds of comments and reactions.” It did not give an exact count or explain how the responses were counted, so that description should not be read as a measured tally or as evidence of what Mandurah residents generally think.
Mandurah was the second WA location
The Mandurah site followed Squirters’ Baldivis operation. The news report said Mandurah had opened the week before its 23 October 2024 publication. Squirters’ own website lists Baldivis as opening in 2013 and Mandurah as opening in October 2024; those dates are company-published information.

What the business currently lists at Mandurah
Squirters’ website describes Mandurah as a 24/7, card-only site with three touch-free automatic washes, four vacuums, two dog washes and vending machines. The company lists the automatic wash clearance height as 2.25 metres. These are the business’s published operational details, not an independent inspection, and facilities or operating information may change.
For vehicle fit, the listed clearance is the key limit to check against a vehicle’s total height, including roof-mounted equipment. The company FAQ specifically addresses utes without tonneau covers and vehicles with roof racks or awnings; consult its current guidance before entering the automatic wash.
