German retailer ROSSMANN announced on 6 August 2024 that it would stop ordering additional Tesla vehicles for its corporate fleet. The company said Elon Musk’s statements conflicted with the values Tesla represents through its products. ROSSMANN did not announce a sale or return of its existing Teslas; it said it would continue using them and choose other manufacturers and models for future fleet orders.
What ROSSMANN announced
ROSSMANN’s announcement dated 6 August 2024 said it would acquire no further Teslas for its company fleet, effective immediately. It also said it would retain and continue using the vehicles already in service, citing resource conservation. The decision therefore concerned future purchases, not an immediate withdrawal of every Tesla from the fleet.
The company said future orders would go to alternative manufacturers and models, but did not name specific replacements in the announcement.
Why the company gave for the decision
ROSSMANN described the basis as an incompatibility between statements by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the values Tesla represents through its products. Its release put the point this way: “Diese Entscheidung beruht auf der Unvereinbarkeit zwischen den Aussagen von Tesla-CEO Elon Musk und den Werten, die Tesla mit seinen Produkten vertritt.”

Raoul Roßmann, the company’s spokesperson for management, further pointed to Musk’s support for Donald Trump. In a statement carried by ROSSMANN, Roßmann said Trump had repeatedly called climate change a hoax, which he said stood in stark contrast to Tesla’s mission of contributing to environmental protection through electric-car production. That is ROSSMANN’s stated rationale, rather than a separate finding about the company’s motives or Tesla’s mission.
How this differs from a later Tesla fleet decision
In May 2025, Danish construction company Tscherning said it had returned its Tesla company cars in response to Musk’s political engagement and public opinions, and planned to acquire European alternatives. Its decision was separate from ROSSMANN’s earlier announcement, and Tscherning explicitly said it was not because Tesla had become a bad car, according to Electrek and Business Standard.

What remains unknown
ROSSMANN’s announcement establishes what it decided and the reason it gave at the time; it does not establish what vehicles the company later ordered. The announcement did not identify replacement brands or models, so it cannot support a claim that ROSSMANN switched to any particular automaker.
