Ram’s argument is that buyers who choose a range-extended electric pickup because they want its plug-in capability are more likely to use it than customers who feel the technology was pushed on them. That is CEO Tim Kuniskis’s prediction about customer choice—not proof that future Ram 1500 REV owners will charge regularly.
Why Ram expects these buyers to plug in
In a January 20, 2026 report, AOL’s Tom Murphy quoted then-Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis arguing that customer demand matters more than forcing a technology onto buyers. “If you force the technology, and you push a higher mix of (range-extended pickups) than the customer pull is going to be, (customers are) never going to plug them in,” he said. Conversely, Kuniskis said customers who actively seek out plug-in technology “will plug them in.” AOL’s report
The logic is about motivation: someone who chooses a plug-in truck may be more willing to charge it and make use of its electric driving capability. But the remarks are a forecast, not a measured charging rate, and they do not establish how often owners will plug in or how much driving they will do on electricity.
What the reported Ram 1500 REV is expected to offer
Murphy’s January 2026 article describes a range-extended Ram 1500 REV with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 powering a 92-kWh battery. The report gives an estimated 150 miles of electric-only driving and an advertised total range of 690 miles. It also reports 647 horsepower, 615 pound-feet of torque and a 14,000-pound towing rating. These are figures from that article, not independently confirmed final production specifications.

Owners would need to plug in to make use of the stated electric-only range. A Level 2 home charger could be a practical consideration for a battery this large, but the available information does not establish the final connector, charging time, installation requirements or a specific charger recommendation. REV and Ramcharger names have changed
The REV name has been used for different configurations, so the range figures should not be mixed together. In April 2023, Stellantis described a battery-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV, with a standard 168-kWh battery and a targeted range of up to 350 miles, or an optional 229-kWh battery and a targeted range of up to 500 miles. In December 2024, Stellantis said the range-extended Ram 1500 Ramcharger would launch ahead of the battery-electric REV. The current Ram product page, however, calls the REV a “Range-Extended Electric Truck.” The names and plans have shifted; these announcements do not by themselves confirm the range-extended truck’s current production, ordering or delivery status. The reported combination of electric-only driving and a much longer advertised total range may appeal to someone who wants to plug in but also values fuel-based range extension. Whether it fits a particular buyer depends on more than the headline figures. Confirm the specific vehicle’s availability and production specifications with Ram, then compare electric range, total range, towing needs, charging access, battery size and price against alternatives. The cited reports do not provide a complete, like-for-like comparison.
