The LEAF S+ also has the higher reported EPA-estimated range: up to 303 miles versus up to 282 for the Mitsubishi. That is a price-and-range comparison, not proof that the two vehicles have identical equipment or a direct trim-for-trim match.
Which LEAF makes the price gap nearly $8,000?
It is the Nissan LEAF S+, not every LEAF configuration. Mitsubishi announced a $37,745 starting MSRP for the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV. Electrek reported the LEAF S+ at approximately $29,990. Subtracting those figures gives a $7,755 MSRP gap. Mitsubishi’s pricing announcement and Electrek’s comparison underpin the figures.
How do the prices compare after destination?
The $37,745 figure is Mitsubishi’s starting MSRP, not a destination-inclusive sticker price. Electrek reports a $1,995 destination fee for the Mitsubishi, making its cited starting sticker $39,740. The same report gives the LEAF S+ comparison price as approximately $29,990; it does not establish a matching destination-inclusive LEAF figure in this comparison. So $7,755 is the difference between the reported MSRPs, not a confirmed difference between both vehicles’ final prices with fees.
| Vehicle and configuration | Reported starting price | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV | $37,745 | Starting MSRP announced by Mitsubishi |
| 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV | $39,740 | Starting sticker including the $1,995 destination fee reported by Electrek |
| Nissan LEAF S+ | Approximately $29,990 | Price reported by Electrek; a destination-inclusive comparison is not stated |
Does the Mitsubishi offer more range?
Not in the figures cited for this comparison. Electrek reports EPA-estimated range of up to 282 miles for the Eclipse Sportback EV and up to 303 miles for the LEAF S+. That gives the LEAF S+ a 21-mile advantage at the stated maximums. These are reported EPA estimates, not results from a road test, and “up to” figures should not be read as a guarantee of real-world range.

Why is a LEAF-based Mitsubishi priced higher?
The two vehicles are closely related, but the available manufacturer descriptions do not establish that they are identical. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation says Mitsubishi will receive the vehicle from Nissan on an OEM basis, and Mitsubishi’s Canadian announcement describes the Eclipse Sportback as based on the new-generation LEAF with cosmetic changes. That supports calling it LEAF-based; it does not show that every component, trim, or feature is the same.
The available pricing and product information does not provide a complete equipment comparison that would explain or justify the premium. It would be premature to attribute the $7,755 MSRP difference to specific standard features or to claim the Mitsubishi is better equipped without a verified, comparable equipment list. The figures establish the price gap; they do not explain all of it.

When does it arrive, and which Eclipse is it?
Mitsubishi announced a U.S. launch for October 2026. Its configurator lists the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV as “Coming Soon.” It is separate from the 2026 Eclipse Cross, a gasoline model with a 1.5-liter turbo engine. The similar names refer to different vehicles.
Any purchase incentive would depend on current rules and individual eligibility. The available information does not establish a U.S. incentive that applies to this vehicle and all buyers, so the prices above should not be reduced by an assumed tax credit or rebate.
