Lexus announced a 250-car U.S. production limit for the 2026 LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition as a final-year tribute to the sedan that launched the brand. The company has not explained why it chose exactly 250. The figure is the U.S. limit—not a confirmed worldwide total: Lexus separately announced five cars for Canada.
Why did Lexus limit the Heritage Edition to 250?
Lexus framed the 2026 LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition as a commemorative send-off for the LS, which introduced the Lexus brand. Its September 26, 2025 announcement calls the car a tribute to the model’s history and craftsmanship, but gives no specific reason for setting the U.S. limit at 250. It does not say the number reflects demand, production capacity, or a sales target. Lexus USA’s announcement describes the edition as a final-year tribute.
The 250 figure applies to the United States. Lexus Canada announced a separate five-car allocation, so the announcements account for 255 cars across those two markets—but do not establish a global production total. Lexus Canada’s release confirms its market-specific allocation.
What is special about the 2026 LS Heritage Edition?
Exclusive colors and identifying details
The U.S. car is a mono-spec model: it pairs Ninety Noir, a new Lexus exterior color, with Rioja Red, an interior color making its LS debut. Dark exterior trim and 20-inch split-20-spoke alloy wheels in Dark Gray Metallic distinguish the exterior. The wheels use noise-reduction technology. Heritage Edition emblems are etched into the center console and embroidered on the headrests.

Standard equipment
Lexus lists a panoramic glass roof, Panoramic View Monitor, refreshed Laser Special Black wood trim, and an Ultrasuede-trimmed headliner and sun visors. Other listed standard equipment includes heated rear seats, a power lift-up buckle, a Mark Levinson 23-speaker, 2,400-watt Reference Surround Sound system, and Advanced Park. These details are specified in Lexus USA’s 2026 announcement.
Powertrain and performance
The U.S.-specification car has a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 416 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive with a Torsen limited-slip center differential. Lexus USA quotes 0–60 mph in 4.6 seconds. For Canada, Lexus quotes 0–100 km/h in 4.9 seconds; those are market-specific figures expressed using different measurement standards, not directly interchangeable claims. Lexus Canada’s announcement gives the metric acceleration figure.

How does the edition fit into the LS’s history?
The LS launched Lexus in the United States in 1989. Lexus UK says the model reached the UK the following year, after a six-year development program known as Circle F, initiated by Toyota chairman Eiji Toyoda and led by chief engineer Ichiro Suzuki. The UK account says the LS left that market’s model range in March 2025 after 35 years; that date does not establish when U.S. production ended. See Lexus UK’s history of the LS.
The 2026 edition is a special treatment of the existing LS, not evidence of an all-new generation or technical redesign. For 2025, Lexus listed both the LS 500 and hybrid LS 500h; the company described the 500h as producing 354 horsepower in total system output. For 2026, Lexus says the U.S. LS 500 is offered only as the AWD Heritage Edition. The earlier model-year details are in Lexus USA’s 2025 LS announcement.
