The Seal uses leatherette and faux-suede-style surfaces, includes a separate driver display and offers a head-up display. It also retains physical controls and a physical drive selector. Those details matter because they put frequently used information and functions closer to the driver’s natural sightline and hands.
The Model 3 takes the opposite approach. Many functions are concentrated in the central touchscreen, giving the dashboard a clean appearance but requiring the driver to look and reach toward the screen for tasks that other cars handle with dedicated controls. The particular Model 3 compared in the cited review also lacked a head-up display.
There is an important distinction here: richer presentation is not the same as proven long-term durability. Carwow’s Seal review praised the cabin’s appearance but also warned that some materials felt overly soft and could be vulnerable to marks. That is a review judgment about perceived quality and usability, not independent evidence that one vehicle will age better.

2. BYD offers a more comfortable ride
The Seal’s softer suspension is one of its clearest advantages over the Model 3. Reviewers describe it as comfortable around town and composed on motorways, with better ability to absorb broken surfaces and potholes.
That makes the BYD especially attractive for:
- daily commuting on imperfect urban roads;
- families who value a calmer ride for passengers;
- drivers who spend more time cruising than attacking corners; and
- owners who find firm suspension tiring over long journeys.
The trade-off is body control and steering feel. A softer setup can feel less immediate when the road becomes twisty. The Model 3 is described as sharper and more precise, while the Seal’s steering and handling can feel less focused. Neither car is necessarily the right choice for every road: BYD emphasizes comfort, while Tesla emphasizes response.
3. The Seal includes equipment some Tesla buyers must do without
BYD’s equipment strategy is another reason reviewers and buyers may prefer it. The Seal’s separate driver display, head-up display, physical controls and conventional interface elements make it feel more familiar to drivers moving from a petrol or diesel car.
Physical controls are not automatically superior. Tesla’s touchscreen approach can reduce dashboard clutter and centralize settings. However, separate buttons and displays can be easier to operate without navigating menus, particularly for climate functions and other tasks used while driving.

4. The Seal looks more distinctive
Styling is subjective, but the cited reviewers generally preferred the Seal’s exterior design to the comparatively plain-looking Model 3. The BYD has more sculpted bodywork and a stronger visual identity, whereas Tesla’s design is deliberately restrained.
This is not a measurable victory, but it is a real buying factor. If you want an EV that looks different from the growing number of minimalist electric saloons, the Seal has the stronger visual argument. If you prefer an understated shape and a less attention-grabbing design, the Model 3 may be more appealing.

5. The Seal can deliver very strong acceleration
Performance is not a straightforward BYD win, but the all-wheel-drive Seal is capable of exceptionally strong acceleration. In some dual-motor comparisons it can be competitive with, or faster than, a similarly positioned Tesla.

That does not make it the better performance car in every sense. The Model 3 is considered more precise and more entertaining on a winding road. The Seal’s advantage is the combination of rapid acceleration and a more relaxed, comfortable character. In other words, BYD can offer a fast car without making outright sportiness the entire personality of the vehicle.
6. BYD’s UK warranty looks stronger on paper
For buyers in the United Kingdom, BYD’s published warranty policy gives it a significant headline advantage over Tesla’s basic vehicle warranty:

On those published UK figures, BYD provides a longer basic warranty and a higher stated battery-distance limit. That can reduce anxiety for buyers who plan to keep the car for many years.
But a warranty comparison needs more than headline numbers. Read the exclusions, battery-capacity conditions, servicing requirements, transfer rules and definitions of covered components. These terms are also regional. UK warranty figures must not be transferred to the United States or another market without checking that country’s policy.
7. Selected BYD models offer useful battery and vehicle-to-load features
BYD markets its Blade Battery as an LFP-based battery architecture with characteristics including long cycle life and structural strength. On applicable models, BYD also offers vehicle-to-load, or V2L, capability: the car can supply power to external equipment through compatible hardware.
The 2025 BYD Atto 3 specification material identifies an LFP Blade Battery and V2L mobile power-supply functionality. That can be useful for camping, outdoor work, emergencies or powering small appliances away from a mains outlet.
However, this feature should be assessed model by model. The Atto 3’s specification does not prove that every BYD vehicle has V2L, and it should not be assumed that the Seal has identical battery chemistry or external-power equipment in every market.
Nor does the Blade name prove that every BYD battery is safer, longer-lasting or better in real-world use than every Tesla battery. Battery chemistry, pack design, software, charging habits, climate, thermal management and model year all affect ownership. BYD’s claims are useful reasons to investigate a particular vehicle, not a substitute for independent model-specific evidence.
Where Tesla is still better than BYD
Efficiency and range remain Tesla strengths
The cited Seal-versus-Model 3 comparison gave Tesla the advantage in claimed range and efficiency. The Seal review also described its real-world test efficiency as disappointing relative to the Model 3.

Efficiency affects more than the number printed in a brochure. A more efficient EV may:
- need fewer charging stops on a long journey;
- use less electricity over the same distance;
- be less affected by cold weather or motorway speeds; and
- make a smaller home battery or lower electricity tariff go further.
Actual range still depends on wheel size, speed, temperature, heating use, payload, traffic and battery condition. Compare the exact trims available in your market rather than comparing the best advertised figure for one car with the entry version of another.
Tesla’s Supercharger network is a major practical advantage
Charging access is one of the main reasons Carwow’s comparison favored the Model 3. Tesla’s Supercharger network is a familiar, integrated long-distance charging option in markets where it is broadly available and conveniently located.

The value of the network depends on where you live, where you travel, whether local charging sites are reliable, and whether your vehicle can use the relevant connector or has access through an approved adapter. A BYD owner may have plenty of usable public charging nearby, while a Tesla owner who rarely takes long trips may gain little from the network’s breadth.
Charging convenience can also affect the home-buying decision. If you are comparing an electric vehicle charging cable, check the car’s generation, connector standard, charging location, current rating and the electrical supply before buying. A cable suitable for one market or charging setup may not be suitable for another, and a portable cable is not a universal replacement for public fast charging.
For drivers who can charge at home, a properly specified home EV charger can matter more than small differences in public-charging convenience. Installation should follow local electrical rules and be handled by an appropriately qualified professional; the charger’s compatibility, power rating and available supply must be checked against the specific BYD or Tesla.
Tesla’s software is easier to use
The Model 3’s infotainment system is one of its strongest advantages. The cited review describes it as responsive, sharp and easier to navigate than the Seal’s system.

Climate-control access is a particular concern because settings may require more interaction with the touchscreen while driving. This is exactly the kind of small daily irritation that can outweigh an impressive specification sheet after months of ownership.
Tesla is not perfect here. The Model 3’s lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remains a drawback for drivers who want familiar smartphone interfaces. Tesla instead expects owners to use its integrated software and phone connectivity features. The choice is therefore between Tesla’s more cohesive proprietary system and BYD’s more conventional equipment layout, but with less polished menu usability in the cited review.
The Model 3 is more precise on a demanding road
If driving enjoyment means quick steering responses, controlled body movements and confidence through corners, the Model 3 has the stronger review case. Its handling is described as sharper, more composed and more engaging on a country road.

The Seal is not a poor-handling car. Its all-wheel-drive version can be extremely quick and it remains capable on normal roads. Its priorities are simply different: comfort and straight-line performance are more prominent than ultimate steering precision.

Price cannot be separated from the local market
In the UK comparison cited by Carwow, the entry-level Model 3 was cheaper than the equivalent BYD Seal. The Seal’s dual-motor version could nevertheless be competitively priced against a Tesla with similar performance.
That result should not be presented as a permanent price advantage for either brand. Transaction prices change with:
- trim availability and model-year updates;
- manufacturer incentives and dealer discounts;
- taxes, tariffs and registration charges;
- leasing rates and finance costs;
- government EV incentives; and
- local inventory and delivery times.
Before treating the Seal’s equipment or Tesla’s range as better value, compare like-for-like versions and include the cost of home charging, insurance, tyres, servicing, finance and expected depreciation.

“BYD” and “Tesla” are not single vehicles
BYD sells several electric models and, in some markets, plug-in hybrids. Tesla’s range also includes multiple models and versions. A Seal-versus-Model 3 review can tell you a great deal about those two cars, but it cannot establish that every BYD is better than every Tesla.
Even within one model, battery size, motor layout, wheels, software version and equipment can change the result. The correct comparison is the exact two vehicles available to you, at the price you can actually obtain.
Safety and reliability need separate evidence
The reviews discussed here support conclusions about comfort, cabin presentation, controls, software, efficiency and driving character. They do not prove that BYD is objectively safer or more reliable than Tesla.
For safety, check the current independent crash-test result for the exact model and model year sold in your region. For reliability, investigate owner feedback, recall information, warranty exclusions, local service coverage, parts availability and the manufacturer’s support record. A longer warranty may provide more protection, but it is not the same thing as a reliability rating.
Availability and after-sales support vary by country
The ownership experience depends on whether the brand has local dealers, trained technicians, replacement parts, roadside assistance and a convenient process for warranty repairs. The answer may differ sharply between two countries or even between urban and rural areas.
Check local availability before relying on a review’s equipment list, delivery estimate, charging compatibility or warranty. Also confirm whether a used vehicle keeps the original warranty and whether the battery warranty transfers to a subsequent owner.
