Nissan executive Ivan Espinosa said the brand had received too little attention because Nissan spread its resources across too many areas. That is Nissan’s explanation—not independent proof of a single cause.
Infiniti’s U.S. sales fell in both 2024 and 2025
Nissan North America reported 52,846 Infiniti sales in the United States in calendar 2025, down 9.0% from 58,070 in 2024. Sales had already fallen 10.2% in 2024 from 64,699 in 2023. The consecutive declines show that the 2025 drop was not an isolated year-over-year reversal. Nissan North America’s 2025 report gives the 2024 and 2023 totals; its 2026 report gives the 2025 figure and comparison.
For context, Nissan Division sales in the U.S. rose 0.9% in 2025, according to the same Nissan North America report. Infiniti’s result therefore differed from its parent company’s U.S. division result, although the two brands have different product mixes and customer bases.
Infiniti’s 2025 model results diverged sharply
The overall decline does not mean every Infiniti model lost sales. Nissan North America’s calendar-year 2025 figures show growth for the QX60 and QX80 alongside large decreases for the Q50, QX50, and QX55.

| Model | 2025 U.S. sales | Change from 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| QX60 | 30,538 | Up 9.8% |
| QX80 | 13,590 | Up 31.4% |
| Q50 | 529 | Down 90.3% |
| QX50 | 5,901 | Down 45.0% |
| QX55 | 2,288 | Down 38.5% |
These are Nissan North America’s reported U.S. model sales and year-over-year changes for calendar 2025. The QX60 had the largest reported model total, while QX60 and QX80 were the two listed models that grew. The Q50’s steep decline is not a reliable stand-in for the entire brand: its 529 sales sit alongside growth in the two larger-selling models. Sales totals show what happened, not why.
Nissan says Infiniti did not get enough attention
At an analyst session on FY2024 results, Nissan executive Ivan Espinosa was asked why the company would continue producing and selling Infiniti vehicles despite low volume. Espinosa attributed the problem to resource allocation, saying: “The low sales volume is not due to brand strength, but rather because we have spread our resources too thin across many areas, which has prevented us from giving Infiniti the attention it deserves.”

That statement is Nissan management’s view, not a causal finding established by the sales figures. It identifies insufficient attention and spread-thin resources as the company’s explanation; it does not prove those factors were the sole reason for the decline.
Why Nissan says it will continue Infiniti
Espinosa also said, “We definitely want to continue with the Infiniti brand.” He pointed to the QX80 as “a prime example,” calling it Nissan’s “most profitable model” and saying the company could take an efficient approach by leveraging Nissan’s assets. These are attributed management statements; the session transcript does not independently verify the QX80 profitability claim.

Nissan announced product plans, but a turnaround is not established
In March 2025, Nissan announced that the U.S. and Canada would get more than 10 new or refreshed products across key segments, including Infiniti models. The plans encompassed hybrid technologies, next-generation EVs, and internal-combustion engines. This was an announcement of intent, not confirmation that every product has launched or that Infiniti sales have improved as a result.

The evidence supports a clear account of the outcome: Infiniti U.S. sales declined in 2024 and 2025, while its 2025 model results varied considerably. Nissan has publicly attributed low volume to its own resource allocation and said it intends to continue the brand, citing the QX80 and shared Nissan assets as part of its rationale.

The cited material does not establish whether buyer sentiment, dealer experience, pricing, vehicle age, reliability, incentives, inventory, or competition caused the sales decline. Those explanations would require separate evidence; they should not be treated as proven causes based on sales totals or Nissan’s management comments alone.
