The notice followed a reported 10,644 National Consumer Helpline complaints related to Ola e-scooters during the year ending August 30, 2024. A show-cause notice is a request for a response, not proof that the company violated the law.
Why did the CCPA issue Ola Electric a notice?
India Today reported that the CCPA’s October 3, 2024 notice raised concerns about alleged deficiencies in service, misleading advertisements, unfair trade practices and consumer rights. The allegations concerned complaints associated with Ola Electric scooters; they were not adjudicated findings. Ola Electric disclosed that it received the notice on October 7, according to its subsequent stock-exchange filing.
The reported complaint subjects included manufacturing defects, alleged sales of second-hand scooters, refunds for cancelled bookings, recurring problems after service, overcharging and billing discrepancies, battery issues, unprofessional conduct and unresolved complaints. These are descriptions of grievances reported to the helpline, not determinations that each claim was substantiated.
How many complaints were reported?
India Today reported that the National Consumer Helpline recorded 10,644 complaints related to Ola e-scooters from September 1, 2023, through August 30, 2024. The reported categories included:

The figures refer to complaints recorded by the National Consumer Helpline in that stated period. They are not a count of all Ola owners, nor do they cover every complaint made through other channels.
What did Ola Electric say in response?
In an October 21, 2024 stock-exchange filing, Ola said it had submitted information and clarifications to the CCPA. The company said 99.1% of the 10,644 complaints it received from the CCPA had been resolved to customers’ complete satisfaction through its redressal mechanism. That percentage is Ola’s claim; the filing does not independently verify how resolution or satisfaction was measured.

The filing also said: “We wish to reiterate that Ola Electric has a robust mechanism to address complaints raised with respect to our vehicles.” That is the company’s own description of its complaint process, not a regulator’s assessment.

- December 4–5, 2024: Ola said the CCPA requested additional documents and information relating to its earlier response and allowed 15 days for a reply.
- January 7, 2025: Ola disclosed that the Karnataka High Court had granted it six additional weeks to respond to that request.
- October 28–29, 2025: Ola said it received a CCPA investigation report on October 28 and was asked to provide comments within seven days.
The October 2025 filing establishes that Ola received the report and a deadline to comment. The report’s findings and any final disposition are not established by the available information. The latest documented step here is not evidence that the CCPA found a violation or closed the matter.

A show-cause notice gives a company an opportunity to respond to concerns raised by a regulator. It does not, on its own, prove the allegations. The complaint totals indicate the volume and types of grievances reported to the National Consumer Helpline in the specified period; they do not establish that every complaint was valid or resolved in a particular way.

As of Ola’s October 2025 disclosure, the matter had progressed to an investigation report and a request for company comments. The available sources do not establish what the report concluded or whether the CCPA later issued a final order.
