There were no April replacement races. The later outcomes differed: Bahrain was held at Sepang in Malaysia in October under the Bahrain Grand Prix name, while the FIA calendar still marks the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix “Called Off” as of October 8, 2026.
Why were the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix cancelled?
On March 14, 2026, the FIA announced that neither race would take place on its scheduled April date. It said the decision followed “careful evaluation of the ongoing situation in the Middle East” and was made in full consultation with Formula One Group, local promoters and FIA member clubs in the region. The statement did not give a more specific security assessment or operational explanation. Read the FIA announcement.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said, “The FIA will always place the safety and wellbeing of our community and colleagues first.” Stefano Domenicali, Formula One Group President and CEO, said, “While this was a difficult decision to take, it is unfortunately the right one at this stage considering the current situation in the Middle East.” Both statements appeared in the FIA announcement.
Were the races replaced in April?
No. The FIA said alternatives had been considered, but no races would be added to replace Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in April. The scheduled FIA Formula 2, FIA Formula 3 and F1 Academy rounds at the events were also not to take place on their April dates. FIA statement.

The FIA and Formula 1 announced a 24-race 2026 calendar on June 9, 2025, placing Bahrain at Sakhir on April 10–12 and Saudi Arabia at Jeddah on April 17–19.
