A comprehensive Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 restoration can be extraordinarily expensive: NISMO’s current reference price for its full-restoration program is approximately ¥85 million, including tax. That is a factory reference for NISMO’s program—not a verified bill for the car in the “eye-watering gorgeous” listing. The listing identifies no confirmed trim, restoration work or price, so the exact car’s story remains unknown.
What is known about the R34 in the headline?
The matching Auto News page is an image listing, not a detailed restoration report. It does not establish whether the pictured car is a GT-R, which grade or model year it is, what work was done, or what the owner paid. NISMO’s price is useful context for understanding how a full factory-backed restoration can reach a very high figure, but it cannot be assigned to that car.

What does NISMO’s full restoration include?
NISMO announced a restoration business for Skyline GT-R R32, R33 and R34 models in December 2020. Its comprehensive “NISMO restored car” work addresses the body and engine, replaces replaceable standard parts, and includes a serial-managed model plate as evidence of the work. NISMO says it checks body torsional rigidity and dimensions against standards based on the manufacturer’s performance, then repairs deterioration factors to maintain balance.
The documented process can extend well beyond an engine rebuild or cosmetic refresh. NISMO lists chassis work such as bushings, links, shocks and springs; brake, clutch and fuel lines; fuel tanks; cooling and air-conditioning components; and small fasteners. Electrical work may involve NISMO Heritage parts, and harness couplers may be replaced depending on their deterioration. This is NISMO’s described process, not a universal checklist for every R34 restoration.

How much does NISMO charge, and what does that figure mean?
NISMO’s FAQ, checked October 8, 2026, gives an approximate standard production reference of ¥85 million including tax for a NISMO restored car. The actual amount varies with model, grade, model year, condition and replacement parts. It is a factory program reference—not a completed transaction price, a guaranteed quote for every R34, or the cost of the car in the headline.

NISMO also publishes narrower Omori Factory service prices. Its current listed starting prices, checked October 8, 2026, are ¥4 million and up for a chassis refresh, and ¥5 million and up for an RB engine overhaul on BNR32, BCNR33 and BNR34 models. These services cover narrower scopes than a full restoration, so their prices are not competing estimates for the same job.
| Service or example | Published figure | What it covers or establishes |
|---|---|---|
| NISMO restored car | Approximately ¥85 million including tax | NISMO’s approximate full-restoration production reference; actual cost varies by vehicle and parts. |
| Omori Factory chassis refresh | From ¥4 million | A listed starting price for a narrower service, not a full-restoration price. |
| Omori Factory RB engine overhaul | From ¥5 million | A listed starting price for BNR32, BCNR33 and BNR34; not a full-restoration price. |
| Separate seller’s R34 GT-R V-Spec refresh report | More than £30,000 | One seller’s statement on a listing published July 9, 2026, since removed; not an audited invoice or typical-cost estimate. |
The last figure is only an individual seller report. The listing was removed, and it does not establish a typical independent-shop restoration bill. Auction listings likewise vary by model, condition, modifications and sale status; they cannot be reduced to one definitive R34 restoration value. NISMO’s separate service menu is available at its Omori Factory price table. For market examples, see CLASSIC.COM’s 1999 R34 listings.

Can owners choose a smaller or more targeted job?
Yes. NISMO describes two scopes short of its comprehensive restored-car program:
- Complete refresh and overhaul: replacement-part choices are adjusted to a proposed budget.
- Section refresh and overhaul: work is focused on an area the owner requests.
NISMO says work is managed at Omori Factory and that it checks a vehicle’s condition in advance before deciding whether it can accept the car into the program. The FAQ states, “The production period is from about six months to one year.” That estimate varies with the model, grade, model year and condition; it should not be treated as a guaranteed turnaround for every vehicle.

Do discontinued parts make an R34 impossible to restore?
Not necessarily, but a reproduction program does not mean every needed part is available on demand. NISMO Heritage brings Nissan, NISMO and suppliers together to reproduce some discontinued genuine repair parts, including parts for the BNR34. NISMO says the effort prioritizes components important to keeping the cars running and roadworthy. In May 2026 it announced additional Heritage parts for BNR32, BCNR33 and BNR34, with release from June 1, 2026.
Availability and timing depend on the individual part. Some items have ordering windows or minimum production lots, may take months or longer to ship, and may not proceed if an order minimum is not met. Check fit, current availability, ordering terms and timing with NISMO or a dealer before planning work around a particular part. See NISMO Heritage Parts and the May 2026 parts announcement.
Why can restoration costs differ so sharply?
“Restored” can describe jobs with very different boundaries. A targeted engine overhaul is not equivalent to a full restoration addressing body, engine, chassis, electrical systems and interior, and even two broad restorations may require very different parts and labor. NISMO specifically names vehicle model, grade, year, condition and replacement parts as factors in its price variation. A factory reference, a service-menu starting price, a seller’s stated spend and a completed sale are different kinds of evidence; comparing them as if they were equivalent obscures what the money actually covered.
For the car pictured in the headline, the trim, work scope and actual bill are not established. NISMO’s program shows why a carefully documented, comprehensive R34 GT-R restoration can command a huge budget, but only details from the owner, seller or shop could establish what happened to that particular car.
