PerthNow reported that a note mocking a learner driver’s parking was left on a Mazda at Galleria Shopping Centre. The reaction described in the report split over two separate questions: whether the car was parked badly, and whether the note was a fair way to say so.
What happened at Galleria Shopping Centre?
In a report published on 1 February 2024, PerthNow journalist Rachel Fenner said an image of a note on a Mazda parked close to a line at Galleria Shopping Centre in Perth had appeared on social media the previous week. PerthNow credited the image to Reddit account dand00n. The report does not independently verify the original post or identify who left the note.
The note, as reproduced by PerthNow, read: “Many three year olds have trouble staying within the lines. Maybe if you practice coloring this turtle, it will help you with your parking.”
Why did commenters object to the note?
PerthNow described commenters who saw the message as unnecessarily harsh toward a learner driver. Its wording did more than point out a parking concern: it compared the driver to a three-year-old and used a coloring exercise as a put-down. Some commenters worried that this kind of ridicule could discourage someone who was still learning.

The report also noted that some commenters picked up on the note’s US spelling of “coloring.” That observation was part of the online discussion, not evidence about who wrote it or why.
Was the Mazda actually parked badly?
The report says the Mazda was parked close to a line, but it also describes commenters who argued that the car had not crossed the lines and was acceptably parked. Those reactions are not a formal assessment of the image or a survey of Perth opinion, and PerthNow’s account does not settle the parking question conclusively.

That distinction matters: someone can consider a car’s position imperfect while still thinking a mocking note was disproportionate. Conversely, a view that the note was rude does not by itself establish exactly how well the Mazda was parked.

What the report does not establish
- Who wrote or left the note.
- The note-writer’s motive.
- Whether the driver was definitely an L-plater; the report frames the incident as involving a learner driver.
- Whether the commenters described by PerthNow represented local opinion as a whole.
