The jury’s overall Best of Show at the 2018 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este went to the 1958 Ferrari 335 Sport Spider by Scaglietti. The leading public-vote winner was the 1968 Alfa Romeo 33/2 Stradale by Scaglione, which collected several audience awards. Those are different results: the Ferrari won the jury’s top car award, while the Alfa Romeo won the principal public votes.
Who won Villa d’Este 2018?
The Ferrari 335 Sport Spider was awarded the Trofeo BMW Group, Best of Show by jury. Owned by Andreas Mohringer of Austria, it is a front-engine sports racing car. BMW Group described it as the latest of four examples produced of this type. BMW Group’s official results identify the car and award.
The Alfa Romeo 33/2 Stradale, a 1968 coupé by Scaglione owned by Albert Spiess of Switzerland, won the Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este, the Best of Show decided by public referendum at Villa d’Este. It also won the Trofeo BMW Group Italia and the Trofeo BMW Group Ragazzi, both public-referendum awards at Villa Erba; the latter vote was for young people up to age 16.

Why there was more than one winner
“Winner” depends on the award and who cast the votes. The Ferrari was the overall Best of Show chosen by the jury; the Alfa Romeo took the leading public-vote awards. Other prizes recognized design, preservation, class results and motorcycles. Naming the award alongside the car avoids confusing these distinct outcomes.

Preservation awards
- The 1936 Lancia Astura Serie III Cabriolet by Pinin Farina won the Trofeo FIVA for the best-preserved pre-war car.
- The Alfa Romeo 33/2 Stradale won the Trofeo ASI for the best-preserved post-war car.

- The 1913 SCAT 25/35 HP won Class F, “80 Years of Automotive Archaeology.”
- The 1970 Lancia Stratos won Class G, “Hollywood on the Lake: Stars of the Silver Screen.”
- The 1985 McLaren MP4/2 B won Class H, “When Sex Was Safe and Racing Was Dangerous: Formula One!”
These were class awards, not the overall Best of Show.
Which motorcycles won?
The motorcycle concours had separate results. The 1948 Moto Major won Best of Show by jury, while the 1939 Brough Superior SS80 won Best of Show by public referendum. The 1907 Indian Twin-Cylinder received a special jury prize. The Moto Major’s jury victory should not be mistaken for the Brough Superior’s public-vote win.

What defined the 2018 event?
Held at Cernobbio under the theme “Hollywood on the Lake,” the 2018 gathering featured a parade of historic vehicles and a finale set to film music. BMW Group’s event account describes a surprise ending for the Ferrari 335 Sport and says jury president Lorenzo Ramaciotti presented the Best of Show award. BMW Group’s Italian event account also records the edition’s context and results.
The programme included the premieres of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and BMW Motorrad Concept 9cento. They were programme highlights, not winners of the historic-car concours awards.
