Arthur Zafiropoulo, then chairman and CEO of chip-equipment maker Ultratech Inc., became a co-owner and investor in Ferrari Maserati of Silicon Valley, a dealership in Redwood City, California. The report was published in 2005; it described an investment in a dealership, not ownership of Ferrari the automaker.
What the 2005 report said
On April 29, 2005, EE Times reported that the dealership’s grand opening was scheduled for that day. It identified Zafiropoulo as Ultratech’s chairman and CEO at the time and named the business as Ferrari Maserati of Silicon Valley in Redwood City.
EE Times attributed details of the investment to the San Jose Mercury News, describing it as being in the “eight-figure” range and saying Zafiropoulo had invested in a “huge number” of Ferraris. Those are imprecise descriptions relayed by the report, not a precise, independently verified investment amount or car count.
Ownership was distinct from running the dealership
In a 2016 response to an investor presentation, Ultratech said: “Arthur Zafiropoulo owns but does not run the dealership. He is in a partnership with a separate team that manages its operations.” The statement distinguishes an ownership interest from day-to-day management; it does not establish who owns or operates the dealership now.

A dealership investment was not ownership of Ferrari
The report concerns a local dealership, not Ferrari N.V., the manufacturer. Ferrari’s 2015 annual report said the company did not own its dealers and made virtually all sales through its dealer network. That provides the relevant distinction between Ferrari as a brand and automaker and a dealership selling its vehicles.

The available statements establish that Zafiropoulo was reported as an investor and co-owner in 2005, and that Ultratech said in 2016 he owned the dealership but did not run it. Neither source confirms present-day ownership. The 2016 statement appeared in Ultratech’s response, “Ultratech Sets the Record Straight Regarding Neuberger Berman’s Investor Presentation.”
