Who Was Behind the Tesla Protests? What Elon Musk’s 2025 Claim Actually Showed

Tesla protests in 2025 were documented, but reporting did not establish that ActBlue or a billionaire funded or coordinated them.

No particular billionaire has been shown to be behind the Tesla protests. In March 2025, Elon Musk alleged that ActBlue and wealthy Democratic donors were connected to protests against Tesla. The protests were real, but reporting did not establish his funding or coordination claim; The Washington Post reported that two of the five organizations Musk named did not raise money using ActBlue, according to its review.

What did Elon Musk allege?

On March 10, 2025, Musk said an “investigation” had found ActBlue responsible for an increase in protests against Tesla. Futurism reported that he named five organizations and several wealthy individuals, but said the basis for the investigation and who conducted it were unclear in the information available at the time. That description is a report of Musk’s allegation, not independent confirmation of it. Futurism reported Musk’s claim.

Futurism quoted Musk asking, “If you know anything about this, please post in replies.” Asking for information does not substantiate the accusation.

What did reporting verify?

On March 28, 2025, The Washington Post reported that Musk’s accusation lacked clear evidence. In its review, the newspaper found that two of the five organizations Musk listed did not raise money using ActBlue. That checks part of the claim; it is not a comprehensive audit of all five organizations, every donor, or any possible funding channel. The Washington Post’s report does not establish a billionaire who financed or organized the protests.

Were the Tesla protests real?

Yes. The Associated Press reported demonstrations at Tesla dealerships in the United States and some European cities in March 2025. The demonstrations show that people protested Tesla; their existence alone does not reveal who paid for, coordinated, or prompted them. The Associated Press reported on the demonstrations.

What do Tesla’s delivery figures tell us?

Tesla reported 336,681 vehicle deliveries for the first quarter of 2025. The Associated Press compared that with 387,000 in the first quarter of 2024 and described the change as a 13% decline. Tesla cautioned that deliveries are only one measure of company performance and should not be relied on as an indicator of quarterly financial results. Tesla’s Q1 2025 delivery report gives the company’s figure and caveat.

  • 5.9 inch x 2.2 inch x 1.8 inch(size)
  • The two sides of doors could be opened, front and back covercould be opened too
  • You can pull back the car, then it can move forwards with Lights and Sound
  • Very suitable as children 4 years and up toys for birthday,Christmas gift, new year. Also it can be a gift for your boyfriend

Those numbers establish a year-over-year delivery decline for that quarter, not its cause. They do not show that protests, a donor network, or any one person made buyers reject Tesla.

Why might Tesla have faced reputational or business pressure?

Associated Press reporting discussed several possible contributors: Musk’s public and political activity, competition from other electric-vehicle makers, protests, and the vehicle lineup or timing of model updates. The cited reporting does not isolate how much any one factor contributed. Nor does it provide a population-wide measure of how many people “hate” Tesla. Treating one of these explanations as the proven cause would go beyond the available evidence.

So who was the “mysterious billionaire”?

The phrase points to the people Musk accused or implied were connected to the protests; it is not the name of a proven organizer. The reporting cited here establishes demonstrations and a limited check of the organizations Musk named, but does not establish that ActBlue or a particular billionaire funded or coordinated them. The headline’s “everyone” is rhetorical, too: these sources do not measure public sentiment or show that everyone dislikes Tesla.
