Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is wholly owned by Volkswagen Finance Luxembourg. Lamborghini’s 2026 organizational model also says the company is subject to the direction and coordination of AUDI AG, which is part of the Volkswagen Group. So Volkswagen Finance Luxembourg is the direct shareholder; Audi AG is the directing company; and Volkswagen Group is the wider corporate group.
How Lamborghini’s ownership is structured
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.’s 2026 Organizational Model Pursuant to D. Lgs. No. 231/2001 identifies three distinct levels:
- Direct shareholder: Volkswagen Finance Luxembourg owns 100% of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.
- Direction and coordination: AUDI AG exercises direction and coordination over Lamborghini.
- Broader corporate group: AUDI AG forms part of the Volkswagen Group.
The document’s wording is precise: “Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is wholly owned (100%) by Volkswagen Finance Luxembourg and is subject to the direction and coordination of AUDI AG; Lamborghini in turn holds participations in other companies and/or entities operating in the automotive sector.” This distinguishes the named legal shareholder from the company that directs and coordinates Lamborghini and from the larger group.
How Lamborghini became part of the Volkswagen Group
Lamborghini’s official milestones say the Audi Group was selected as buyer and Lamborghini became part of the Audi-Volkswagen Group in 1998. The same timeline says Megatech held a majority of Lamborghini’s shares until 1998. Lamborghini’s history page dates the company’s founding to 1963, under Ferruccio Lamborghini.
