VinFast makes VinFast cars. It is part of Vietnam’s Vingroup group, and its core electric-vehicle manufacturing business is operated by VinFast Vietnam in Hai Phong, Vietnam. The company has also expanded assembly to India, so a VinFast’s assembly location can depend on its model and market. Claims that VinFast is “ahead of Hyundai” need a specific measure: available evidence supports a dated comparison of dealership reach in India, not an overall global ranking.
Who owns and makes VinFast?
VinFast identifies itself as a subsidiary of Vingroup JSC. VinFast Vietnam, a direct subsidiary of VinFast Auto Ltd., operates the company’s core EV manufacturing business in Vietnam, according to VinFast’s 2025 annual filing: VinFast investor filings. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also lists VinFast Trading and Production Joint Stock Company as a completed vehicle manufacturer, with an address in Hai Phong, Vietnam; its record includes the VF 6, VF 7, VF 8 and VF 9: NHTSA vehicle manufacturer records.

Where are VinFast cars made?
Vietnam

India
VinFast inaugurated an assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on August 4, 2025. The company said the first phase would assemble the VF 6 and VF 7, with starting capacity of 50,000 vehicles a year and expansion capability to 150,000. Those are announced capacity figures, not verified actual production rates. See VinFast’s plant announcement.

As a result, it is inaccurate to say every VinFast is made in Vietnam—or to assume every model sold in a given country is assembled locally. The location depends on the model and market.
What vehicles does VinFast make?
In a March 3, 2026 announcement, VinFast described three automotive lines: Lac Hong for ultra-luxury vehicles, VF for mass-market passenger electric vehicles, and Green for commercial mobility. There is no single measure that establishes whether VinFast is ahead of Hyundai overall. A useful, bounded comparison comes from India: an Associated Press report published August 4, 2025 said VinFast had agreements for 32 dealerships across 27 Indian cities, while Hyundai had 1,300 places for customers to buy its cars. This is a dated comparison of Indian retail reach—not a comparison of global sales, production, finances, technology or vehicle quality. See the Associated Press report.

Other figures should be compared on the same basis. VinFast’s Vietnam deliveries are realized, company-reported results; the Tamil Nadu figures are announced capacity; and the India dealership figures describe a snapshot of retail presence. These measures answer different questions and do not, by themselves, establish which automaker is larger or more competitive overall.
