Angelina “Angy” Smith became Rad Power Bikes’ CEO in December 2025, while the Seattle e-bike seller was entering Chapter 11. The brand and selected assets were later sold to Life EV in a court-approved transaction; that sale does not, by itself, establish that Rad Power Bikes Inc.’s bankruptcy case has ended.
Who is Rad Power Bikes’ new CEO?
Angelina “Angy” Smith took over as CEO earlier in December 2025, according to GeekWire’s December 29 report. Smith had been Rad’s chief financial officer since April. She replaced Kathi Lentzsch, who had taken the CEO role in March 2025.
Smith’s background is primarily in finance and business operations. GeekWire reported that she held roles at TrovaTrip, Athena Consumer Acquisition Corp., Thrive Causemetics, glassybaby, Mixpo, Razorfish and aQuantive, and served as a finance vice president at Zulily for almost five years. The report characterized Smith as Rad’s fourth CEO in three years.
Bicycle Retailer and Industry News also reported Smith’s elevation from CFO during Chapter 11 and described reductions to the executive roster. Its leadership timeline lists founder Mike Radenbaugh (2007–2022), Phil Molyneux (2022–2025), and Lentzsch, hired in March 2025, before Smith.

When did Rad Power Bikes file for Chapter 11?
Rad Power Bikes Inc. filed for Chapter 11 on December 15, 2025, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington. The case number is 25-02183. A December 16 court order directed that Rad’s case be jointly administered with Summit Collective Inc.’s case, number 25-02182, under the Summit lead case for procedural purposes. Joint administration is a case-management arrangement; the order does not describe the companies as having merged.
The filing’s immediate concern was liquidity. In a motion seeking permission to use cash collateral, the debtors said they needed access to that cash to fund ordinary operations and administer their Chapter 11 cases. They warned that without it they would be unable to continue operating and would have to liquidate. That is the debtors’ account in a court filing, not an independent court finding.
Why did Rad Power Bikes file for bankruptcy?
The debtors’ motion traced the financial pressure to a sharp pandemic-era rise in demand followed by a slowdown and costly excess inventory. The filing said demand had increased “almost 300%” by May 2020. It then described demand slowing by mid-2022, leaving inventory that took years to sell through and generated holding costs. This is the company’s explanation in its filing.
Bicycle Retailer and Industry News reported figures from Rad’s bankruptcy filing that give a sense of the reported strain. These are filing figures as reported by the publication, not independently audited results established here.

What happened to Rad Power Bikes after the filing?
Life EV announced on March 5, 2026, that it had completed a court-approved acquisition of the Rad brand, intellectual property, inventory and certain operating assets. Life EV said it would continue U.S. retail under the Rad name. The Rad warranty page says new ownership began on February 27, 2026.
These dates describe the transfer of the brand and selected assets, not a confirmed end to the debtor’s Chapter 11 case. The later owner of a brand is not necessarily the debtor in the bankruptcy proceeding. Life EV CEO Rob Provost said in the acquisition announcement: “Rad Power Bikes has helped define the e-bike category in North America with its innovative products and passionate rider community.”
What does the ownership change mean for Rad bike warranties and service?
The current Rad warranty page says RLM has no obligation to provide warranty coverage or service for products purchased before December 15, 2025. It also says RLM may consider discretionary upgrade policies or services. That wording does not promise coverage or support for pre-filing purchases.
Because warranty and service terms can change, check the live policy before relying on it. Keep your proof of purchase, note the purchase date, and contact Rad through its current support channels to ask what help, if any, is available for your specific bike. Do not assume that the transfer of the Rad brand automatically transfers an existing warranty obligation.
