Daniel Ricciardo was mentioned as a possible driver for Red Bull’s Mount Panorama demonstration before the 2023 Bathurst 12 Hour, but he was not confirmed for it. Follow-up reporting named Liam Lawson as the driver of the team’s 2011-spec RB7. Ricciardo’s Mount Panorama appearance was in a separate Red Bull road-trip feature.
Who drove the Red Bull RB7 at Bathurst?
Liam Lawson drove Red Bull’s 2011-spec RB7 around Mount Panorama as part of the 2023 Bathurst 12 Hour weekend demonstration. Autosport’s follow-up report confirmed Lawson after pre-event coverage said the demonstration driver had yet to be announced.
The RB7 was Red Bull’s double-title-winning Formula 1 car. The demonstration was a special appearance at the circuit, not a Formula 1 race at Bathurst.
Why was Daniel Ricciardo linked to the drive?
Before the event, Motorsport.com reported that the driver had not yet been unveiled and floated Ricciardo as a possible candidate. At the time, his third-driver role included commercial activities, making him a plausible possibility—not a confirmed choice.

Bathurst 12 Hour event director Shane Rudzis described the planned appearance in that contemporaneous report: “Oracle Red Bull Racing are the current Formula 1 world champions – just to have them at the event is a privilege, but to know that the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car will be lapping Mount Panorama will be something else.”

Ricciardo did visit Mount Panorama in Red Bull’s 2023 Australian road-trip feature, but that was a different activity from the Bathurst 12 Hour demonstration. The road-trip account shows him at the circuit with Supercars driver Shane van Gisbergen; Formula 1’s March 27, 2023 report also lists Mount Panorama among the trip’s stops and identifies the car as the RB7.
